Hey guys, I just noticed that the veins in my forearms are much more prevalent then they were before I started my diet last year. Is this an indication that I am losing body fat?

    Thanks

Could very well be, yes. Or could be that you just had a lot of coffee today. :)

    FastGTX,
The Medical Research Institute located in San Francisco would have to disagree with you here. They manufacture a "growth enhancing" hemodilator called NO2. This product reportedly generates a "perpetual pump" and increases vascularity.(i've tried it and think it's garbage) They strongly reccomend NOT using ephedra or caffeine in conjunction with NO2 because both restrict the dialation of blood vessels in the body.
    Who knows!!

Oh surprise surprise, the medical community and I disagree! :D

I used Arginine/NO when it first came out. Universal's "NOX3" was my favorite brand. It does seem to increase vascularity but makes it's the most notable changes in the bedroom; it is basically viagra.

Now I don't know if what they said was true over at that institue, but even if it is, does restricting the dialation of bood vessels mean you can't look more "veiny?"

Think about it for a minute, I drink a half a pot of coffee, and I go in the bathroom and look in the mirror and my skin is tighter and my veins are more apparent. I may not be a scientist and I may not be able to prove the case with any "real" evidence, but oh well, I'm gonna go grind up some Starbucks beans right now. :)

Guess what partner,I drink a shitload of coffee too and i've got some pretty serious vascularity goin'.As a matter of fact, I began getting veiny when I stopped using NO2. I believe Mastover attributed that to loss of body fat but i'm not sure. As for the coffee thing, as far as I can figure it's the diuretic effect (less water) that enhances the hoses.

I think it's the diuretic effect too, or at least that makes the most sense. Interesting that you got more veiny after stopping the NO2, but stranger things have happened! I gained a bunch of muscle eating more than 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight per day, and the medical community said I'm gonna kill myself doing that. :p

What NO did you try? I thought it was an OK supplement for how it made me feel, but I don't know that I'd attribute it to muscle gains, at least not directly.

I tried the MRI NO2. I still got about 1/4 bottle left. I got nada. What about the extended pump? None of that either. I started a thread on NO2 sometime back with the same complaints.(page 13 of suuplements/nutrition)

NO2 products became popular because of the literature espousing all its virtues. This stuff did a great job on paper, but that's where it's effectivemess stopped. I've seen guys backstage during bodybuilding competition pop these pills and drink these concoctions in the hopes of increasing their pump and vascularity, only to be shocked to realize that they began to spill over and retain water.

Vascularity might be enhanced by some compounds like coffee, but only temporarily. Most time (notice I said MOST) it will be extremely low single digit bodyfat levels. However, genetics also have a say in this. A well known bodybuilding champion in the 80's, Boyer Coe, was known as the "Abless Wonder". He routinely dropped his bodyfat levels to shredded condition, yet had no abs to speak of !! On another note, Flex Wheeler would always come in absolutely peeled to the bone for his shows, yet never had any vascularity.

Yeah, agreed, again to a point. Here is what I mean -- placebo. :) Let's say you pop this NO2 pill and you think "hell yeah I'm gonna be huge." Then with that mindset you hit the weights harder, somehow push more iron, increase overload, and in a sort of indirect way you do get bigger gains. Directly though, I'm not necessarily sold on NO2, besides the fact that it just feels good when I take it. Whether or not it actually has any real direct bodybuilding benefit is still up in the air for me.

Yes, temporarily. I can drink coffee and then I notice my skin looks tighter, and I have more vascularity. It does of course go away after a few hours.

I agree that a lot of this is genetics. Jay Cutler seems to have much less of a "veiny look" on stage than some of his competition, even when he's totally shredded.

    Mastover,
You keep coming up with these blasts from the past. I remember Boyer coe.Dam that seems like so long ago. If i'm not mistaken, I saw him compete for the Olympia in '80 or 81 at Madison Square Garden. Lee Haney won it that year. My favorite alltime B.B was by far Frank Zane. Man was he symetrical and ripped!
