This thread is simply for people to record workouts in which they observe the happy occasion of Deadlift Wednesday; no more, no less.

Wait...I thought it was deadlift Sundays.

Somebody must have forgotten to tell me when I figured out my training schedule.

My old trainer Kenny was in the gym today. He looks as good as ever. It sounds like he might be coming back from working at his new gym. Grass maybe not greener on the other side, I dunno.

The fitness director had brought in his suspension trainer (basically like gymnastic rings but with handles). He and Andre were doing things with it when I got there so we started with that.

    Strap pushups: 10
Strap pushups with alternating arm extension: 8
    Strap pushups: 2x10

    Strap inverted rows: 8,7,6

Pistol squats while holding the straps: 15

It makes it a lot easier to balance holding the straps even if you avoid pulling on them significantly. People who have trouble with pistols can benefit from using this training aid. Since these were easy, I did them right down to the floor and fast.

Dumbell Bulgarians (using strap instead of bench): 12x20#

Medicine ball lunge catches (back leg in the strap): 12x15#

Dumbell Bulgarians (using strap instead of bench): 12x50#

At this point it was time for deadlift Wednesday

    Conventional barbell deadlifts: 2x315#, 1x405#, 2x0x475#

At this point Andre wanted to work in himself and he pulled 475# for a single, and then he wanted to go back to 315# for speed, as did this other guy that was doing the iso-lateral low row for 180# a side who wanted to ask about improving his deadlift.

Conventional barbell deadlifts for speed: 2x10x315#, 12x315#

It was pretty funny, Andre and the other guy look really fit and muscular. Andre took the first set for 10, then the other guy pulled 6, and a couple women who were using nearby leg machines were quite appreciative with impressed looks on their faces. Then I pulled my first ten as fast as I could, and made it look really easy. The women were more shocked than anything else - it looked like they felt cheated from appreciating the preceding sets if grandpa can pull it easy. Well, grandpa can pull that weight easy; the second set of ten was even faster, and the last set of 12 I think was the fastest pace I've pulled at 315#.

Do Snatch Deadlifts count? I did 205x5x3, hook grip. Probably the only Wednesday I'll do them though.:(

Dang injuries. It has been a month since I deadlifted.

Zen, I'm getting the Pendlay bar soon.

Take it slow. It's a lot worse to come back too soon than to come back a little late. It's tough to hang back, and easy to get in there and hit stuff hard, right? Well that is why it's better to come back late, where you can make up time by pushing it hard, than to come back early, reinjure yourself, and then have to sit around for even longer.

And I definitely like the Pendlay bar. I don't know what sort of thick bar the gym got when they got new bars, but I'm no fan of them. If I want another five pounds on the bar, I'll put the plates on. I got little bitty fingers and can't even put a decent hook grip on the usual thickness bars, let alone anything oversize. If I wanted grip training, I have other ways to do that.
