The first full week is in the history books with ZERO alcohol consumption! :tucool:

Last night, I calculated how much money I have been spending on alcohol in a typical week:

    1-1/2 cases beer @ $13.49/12 plus tax = $44
    3 bottles wine @ ~$10 each plus tax = $33

So, roughly $77/week. That adds up to around $4000 a year!

Wow. Never really thought of it that way. I mean, I knew I was dropping some cash but damn. The really scary part is that the numbers above reflect buying in-store and drinking at home. Obviously, bar and restaurant purchases are a lot higher.

Oh well, at least I have saved myself $77, so far. When (if?) I go back to drinking, I need to tone it down a bit.

Dust yourself off and start again TODAY. 30/31 isn't perfect, but it isn't too shabby either.

...and that's just the booze.

All the associated bad decisions usually wind up costing me more, too. I took my fiance out for her birthday last night and the check came back about half of what I'd expected to pay. Took a second to do the math and realize that no drinks plus no instant gratification impulses meant I just ordered a good meal and that was enough. :D

It was tough, though, at first. Yesterday was definitely the hardest challenge thus far.

    Made it. :tu:

Oohhh...bet that sucked to come in here and post that. :(

    I know from experience.

But you did post it. Remember how bad it's going to suck if you fail again. It's really f'ing hard to abstain without a long-term perspective. Use the shitty feeling to your advantage.

I'm happy you reported in instead of lurking or dropping out of the thread (like I've done in the past). Stick with the challenge!

I didn't drink yesterday. I'm not going to drink today. :tu:

I have had a beer each weekend... still can't seem to get by them  but it has been limited to one on one day! Much better!

St. Patrick's day was a breeze (as stated: I usually avoid the bars on 3/17 anyway). I'm looking forward to another weekend of waking up without alcohol in my system.

Sara got me tickets for the Penguins vs. Capitals next week as a Christmas present. It's going to be odd to go to a sporting event and not drink...or rather, not to go get drunk ahead of time.

What the hell happened to alcohol at sporting events, by the way? It used to be that they were ridiculously expensive, but you got your money's worth - or at least, moreso than you do today. I remember getting a beer the size of my head for $8 at Three Rivers Stadium back in 1992. Now they're $10 and you only get 16oz.

Probably not the best place to discuss it. :o

Still doing pretty well here. Had a sip of the gf's margarita last week and that's it. Good job all, hope everyone survived yesterday :)

Hanging in there. Another weekend looming and I don't think it'll be a problem - not going to drink, regardless. :tu:

Well, folks, another dry weekend has come and gone. Felt great to wake up Saturday and Sunday mornings without even the slightest hint of a hangover.

Including today, 10 days remain in the month, so I am starting a countdown (if the countdown stops before the end of the month, you'll know what happened):

    10 ......

    Over three weeks!

Still going strong. I had a serious desire to drink on Sunday, but I think that was just boredom. I went for a long walk with my fiance and my dog since it was so beautiful outside instead.

I'm still here. Still in it. Barely. The middle of a divorce is a shitty time to quit drinking! :bang:
