OK, I know, I know....you were all coming in here to read me the riot act about the fact that I lit up a joint or something of the like today.

However, Let me assure you that this was NOT the case. For the first time in my life, after I was done doing my cardio, I felt like I was high. I felt totally AWESOME when I got done with my circuit today. My question is this: Why does this happen? I am not a science major, and do not pretend to be, so I am wondering, exactly what happens in our bodies that makes us feel like this? And why doesn't it happen every time you work out? If it did, you can bet that it would be a whole lot easier for people to hit the gym on a regular basis.

Endorphins act on the same chemical receptors as opiates.

Adrenaline acts on the same receptors as amphetamine type substances like caffeine, ephedrene, cocaine, etc.

You got high on your own hormones!

This leads me to the other question, though. Why doesn't this happen everytime?

I'm not pretty sure that it happens everytime, I think there's some kinda level of intensity you need to reach to activate these feeling of high. I don't love doing cardio in the gym, but I get the same feeling you describe when I lift with high intensity...

I only get that feeling (sometimes even hallucinating slightly) when I do intense sprints.

I usually start feeling pretty good after 20 minutes of cardio. Those first 20 minutes are a chore, but it feels like I could go forever once I get over that hump.

HIIT on the other hand, it just makes me feel like I'm about to pass out.

It can, but usually the duration is so short you might not notice unless you're thinking about it...as a former regular marijuana smoker I can vouch for the high being nearly identical (although certainly not as intense as a rip from a3 ft. PH(X) is going to be)!

Everytime I do cardio I try to get high from it...
