I was at the gym at 5:45 and after warm ups did four rounds of:

    Duffel bag squats and cleans
    Burpees
    Kb reverse lunges
    Db rows
    Walkouts with a pushup
    High planks
Various versions of leg and arm raises from a high plank
    Bicycles

On the functional side of things I just finished, along with dear son, bringing up from the basement all of our holiday decorating stuff.

Dinner tonight is going to be something involving seafood; right now I'm leaning toward linguini and clam sauce.

    Have a great day!

Although there's not always a correlation, I was energized today and had a good workout. It was a full body one with only a minor addressing of shoulders which is good because mine are still tired from the past few days.

As sometimes happens the plans of the family changed last night and I was the only home for dinner so instead of cooking I made a mish-mash plate of leftovers. I'll probably go with the seafood theme tonight.

    Have a great day!

I like the sound of that "mish-mash of leftovers", now I am hungry. :)

Took me a minute to figure out that the correlation was high energy BEFORE the workout and a good workout. Sometimes I am slow like that.

    Hopefully it continues

The food was there and it wasn't enough for a meal for all of us so I took the opportunity to take a break yet still have a tasty and healthy-ish meal.

Thanks Mac; I do also. Next test will be tomorrow AM.

    Update

Exercise for the day was functional; we have some furniture in need of repair and I brought 2 pieces over to the repair person and retrieved one I dropped off earlier in the week. It wasn't much heavy lifting; the pieces were more unwieldy than heavy so in reality today is pretty much a rest day.

As we speak I'm reducing some turkey stock from the Thanksgiving carcass and will turn it later into barley soup. Dinner tonight is going to be grilled steaks with a to be determined vegetable.

    TGIF!

Lots of squats and lower body stuff today; I did okay. In a couple of hours I'll be moving some snow.

We're going to friends for dinner tonight so no cooking for me.

    Have a great day!

After the usual warm ups I did four rounds of:

    Db squat presses
    Kb deadlifts
    Mountain climbers
    Ab wheel roll outs
    TRX table top rows
    Duffel bag bear hug squats
    Rowing machine

We got about 5 inches of snow yesterday and I was able to clear most of it before we had to leave for our friends. With the sun in abundance today and the minimal amount that came down after I shoveled I'm letting Mother Nature take care of the residual.

Dinner tonight is going to be chicken stir fry.

    Have a great day!

Today was the first day that dear son became a full time NYC commuter and when I heard about the bombing I knew he would have been in the city at about that time. Once I knew where the MF'er tried to spread mayhem I knew that dear son was over a mile away, but that didn't preclude the possibility that this was going to be some type of multi location coordinated effort. Fortunately it wasn't and, from what I understand, the only person seriously hurt was the bomber.

In less important news, I was at the gym this morning and did three rounds of:

    Incline Db bench presses
    Incline Db flyes
    Incline Bb skullcrushers
    Standing Bb curls
    Standing Db shoulder presses
    Db bench rows
    High planks
    Leg raises
    Supermans

It being dear son's first day at his new job and with the added issue mentioned above I'm not sure what time he's going to be home so I'm making something with a degree of latitude, a baked pasta dish with roasted eggplant tomato sauce and a side salad.

    Have a great day!

They always play this song at my gym, by the Dirty Heads. In honor of your son's first day, here are the lyrics:

    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day cause I love my occupation
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
If you don't like your life, then you should go and change it
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day cause I love my occupation
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day-ay

Everybody sour like a lemon tree
I'm just smiling down upon my enemies
Do this shit, I love it on the daily
You say you hate your job, but you'll never leave, never leave
But that ain't gonna be me, that ain't gonna be me
My brother called me up said he saw me on TV
I said, "it wasn't easy, but right now I'm living breezy."
Build this engine from the ground up, now my hands they ain't so greasy, feel me?

    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day cause I love my occupation
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day-ay

    Illuminate my future bright
    So thankful for everything
    Rejuvenate my inner light
As I work hard for all I need
    Open arms, embracing life
And all of which you gave me
    Hard work, it pays off
I'm happy now, it's paying me
Close my eyes sometimes it feels as if I go away
I love the life I live and enjoy the ride along the way
"I make a living out of living," yeah, that's what I say
I've got one life to live, and I wouldn't live it no other way

    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day cause I love my occupation
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day-ay

    Van Gogh in my earlobe
    I can't hear, I'm here though
I may be a weirdo, but this is my year, yo
    My life may be crazy
My lack of the lazy has let me do shit that I love on the daily
    Daily, daily
Get to do this shit I love upon the daily
    Daily, daily
Everybody go and live your daydreams up

    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day cause I love my occupation
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
If you don't like your life, then you should go and change it
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day cause I love my occupation
    A-a-aye, I'm on vacation
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day
Every single day, every, every single day-ay

Thanks Shamie. He had a good first day for what it's worth.

    Thanks Mac.

    Update

I won't be exercising today; I have a lot of holiday oriented stuff to do, but that's really a justification for taking what really is a needed rest day.

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah and while we're not having any family over we'll be hosting a couple of dear daughter's friends. Since it's a weeknight and we'll be getting a late start it's going to be a straightforward dinner, meaning no appys ahead of time or many courses once we sit down. I'll be serving red wine braised brisket, potato latkes, and string bean with sesame oil and roasted sesame seeds. Dessert will be some of the cookies that wifey baked this weekend.

    Have a great day!

I noticed you don't do cardio anymore. Is that intentional?

Originally yes because of some physical and respiratory issues. Now it's more of what's going on between my ears; I'll essentially be starting from scratch, something that I haven't experienced in decades, and I keep putting it off because I know it's not going to be pleasant. Intellectually I know it's extremely poor thinking and my hazy plan is that some time in the near future I will lace 'em up again and get started.

    Update

No gym for me today, which is normal for a Friday. I,however, will do some planks and pushups at home so I won't be a totally lazy bum.

Dinner tonight is going to be chicken breasts served with an eggplant concoction.

    TGIF!

Happy Hanukkah. Good thing it is eight nights. Somehow I missed that it started this week.
