I was at the gym at 6 this morning. 3 different circuits of 4 exercises with very little rest. To put things in perspective of what the hour was like, the first warm up exercise was mountain climbers. Really?

Dinner tonight is going to be breaded eggplant slices that will sandwich mozzarella cheese and then baked. I'm not sure what the protein will be, maybe TVP.

    :dreamy:
Do you keep the skin on, or remove it? I had to look up TVP, which has 23 meanings, but I think you are referring to: textured vegetable protein. What is textured vegetable protein?

I peeled the eggplant before slicing. I was using what we would call "regular" eggplants, meaning the variety that is readily available; the smaller Japanese eggplants don't need to be peeled, but I wasn't making that type of dish.

23 meanings for TVP? Wowza, but you're correct I was referring to textured vegetable protein, which is a soy product and the brand I use is Bob's Red Mill. Not because I think it's superior to others, but because it's the only one I can find.

    Update

Exercise for the day is going to be a home workout of planks and pushups.

Dinner tonight is going to be roasted pork tenderloin with a sun dried tomato pesto. Not sure about the side dishes.

    Have a great day!

No exercise today because I was helping my MIL, but I'll partially make up for the lack of activity by doing some dancing tonight. Yep, the last Friday of the month so wifey and I are doing our usual.

Dinner tonight is going to be baked chicken breasts with a side of cous cous.

    TGIF!

We didn't dance last night as much as usual, but I can at least state that I did some exercise, minimal as it was. This morning I was at the gym for 60 minutes. Full body oriented, low-ish weight, fast paced stuff. Definitely a good and tiring workout.

Tonight we're going to a Halloween party; open bar, from what I've been told a large buffet so no cooking for me tonight, and a DJ so I have some more dancing in my future.

    Have a great day!

Uncharacteristically I haven't posted in a while because I haven't done any exercise. Or cooking.

On the way home from a great Halloween party on Saturday I started to have severe breathing issues that continued most of the night so I did not go to the gym on Sunday. Toward the end of Sunday I developed a minor toothache that got worse during the night and I woke up with half my face swollen and lots of pain. I called my dentist, who could see me the following morning (Tuesday), and spent most of the day dealing with pain management as the pain and swelling increased. The meds knocked me out and I spent most of the day sleeping.

After a quick examination on Tuesday the dentist felt that the issue was too serious for her to deal with and I needed to see a specialist. Fortunately she was able to arrange for me to see an endodontist and after an examination she immediately consulted with her colleague. They presented me with two options; one was an immediate root canal along with some other procedure or arrange that day to see an oral surgeon and have the tooth removed and the infection drained. With no guarantee of success I opted for the former to possibly save the tooth and fortunately it was successful. Since then I've been on a heavy dose of antibiotics and some low end pain killers that I've only sparingly taken. I'm still swollen, am having trouble eating, and the infection is sapping me of energy. Fortunately my fever has broke, but there was no way I was going to the gym for my normal Wednesday 6 AM class; sleep was the way to go.

Clearly not a lot of good news in the above, but at least I'm on the mend.

    Have a great day!

Glad you are feeling better. Root canals are no fun. Actually it is the pain that necessitates the root canal that is no fun

Thanks Mac. Yep, the pain before the procedure was worse than the pain afterward. I have a follow up tomorrow to do some more "stuff" and also get an update on how things are progressing.

Words you don't like to hear.

Glad everything worked out, and you are recuperating.

    Absolutely and thanks.

    Update

I'm starting to get more calories into me and I had almost a decent night's sleep last night so with the infection receding I'm feeling closer to normal. I have an appointment with the endodontist this afternoon for another procedure related to Tuesday.

Regarding exercise, my plan is to maybe do something light at home tomorrow and then go to the gym Saturday morning.

Tonight friends of ours who live in England and will soon be moving to Australia are coming over. I'm not up to cooking so we're going to a Mediterranean restaurant. The have an extensive amount of dips so I'll have plenty of soft food options as well as soup which will likely be the hot portion of my dinner.

    Have a great day!

Another day another visit to the endodontist. Everything is going well, but getting shot up with Novocain all the time isn't fun. I'll be fine in a couple of hours.

Sadly, no exercise will happen today, but tomorrow I'm breaking out of lazy mode and will be at the gym.

My book club meeting got postponed so for the first time in almost a week I'll be in the kitchen and will be making chicken stir fry.

    TGIF!

After six sloth-esque days I was a the gym this morning. I didn't have a great workout, but I'm glad I went. Wifey was suggesting that I don't go and rest, but I felt strongly about giving it a try and while it felt good to be there the only aspect of the experience that I can attach the adjective strong to is how I felt. :-)

Yesterday's dental procedure was more invasive than I anticipated and a few hours after writing about last night's dinner I realized that it wasn't going to happen for me. Wifey foraged on leftovers and I had another wonderful mashed potatoes dinner. I'm not screwing around with expectations for tonight and am currently making a split pea soup. To ensure that I achieve a baby food texture I'll be using my immersion blender.

    Have a great day!

Don't like the sound of that. Soon you will be good as new.

Hope that was the end of the procedures and you are on your way to eating solid food.

    Update

I'm back to my normal exercise schedule with only VERY minor discomfort from my root canal, but the infection is still lingering and my body is channeling its resources to combat it. One of the results is that my stamina, which wasn't great to begin with, has taken another hit, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse to not do anything. I was at the gym yesterday morning and there again this morning for my usual Monday session with my trainer. After warmups I did 3 rounds of:

    Single arm Db squat presses
    Ball planks
Bosu ball pushups with knee thrusts
    Ball slams
    Ab wheel rollouts
    Weighted decline sit ups
    Leg raises

I really struggled during the first round, but some how performed better after that. Regarding stamina, I know it will return to some degree once I'm fully healed, but I am also contemplating running again. Watching the NYC Marathon yesterday was somewhat bitter sweet. I enjoyed the tactical decisions of the pros and thought about my friends and family who I knew were running; I was also a bit saddened because I intended to be on the course had things gone the way I hoped.

We didn't have the split pea soup on Saturday, but it was yesterday's dinner. Tonight I'm making pasta with a carbonara sauce and a side salad.

Not much to say. Exercise for the day will be walking a few miles and some stretching. Meh.

Dinner tonight is going to be baked chicken thighs with kasha and bow tie noodles.

    Have a great day!

I was at the gym at 6 AM and did 4 rounds of:

    Glider knee thrusts
    Kb goblet squats
    Mountain climbers
    Lateral box sprints
    Push ups
    Kb swings

I'm pretty sure there was one additional exercise, but I can't recall it right now.

No cooking tonight; we're going to visit my MIL.

    Have a great day!

My core is quite sore from exercises earlier in the week so all I'm going to do today is some pushups.

Dinner tonight is up in the air for a number of reasons; I have some ideas and will be prepared with whatever comes our way. Okay, that sounded ominous; it's all for good reasons.

    Have a great day!

Turned out to be a fun, quiet, and early evening at home. My daughter's boyfriend came last night and is spending the weekend with us. I wound up making an experimental dish that turned out very tasty, but the optics were terrible.

I went out for a short run this morning. Almost embarrassing how short it was and how I felt afterward.

Dinner tonight will be at home; the menu will be decided by who is eating here. Most likely it will involve shrimp and a garden salad.

    TGIF!

A different type of workout this AM. The goal was 1000 reps total of 5 different exercises. Each exercise had a goal, 100 pushups and 300 reps of heavy rope doubles, for example. Each person had the latitude to do what they wanted, when they wanted, and in the quantity they wanted. I chose not to go to exhaustion, meaning more rounds; others took the opposite approach. The only limiting factor was that we were given 45 minutes. I did not reach the 1000 goal, but a few people did. Kudos to them.

We're going to a family party tonight so no cooking for me.

A big nod to all veterans; thank you for keeping us safe.
