Congrats. Now the parenting REALLY starts, as you become ever vigilant to their location and need to baby-proof everything in the world.

If it's any help in that regard, alcoholic drinks are NOT free at the casino (and we'll only be there for about a half hour, at an early hour of the morning), so the only place where you will be tempted is at Bobby Flay. And I won't be drinking there (I almost never drink WHILE I'm eating, unless they have Natural Light in cans (which is basically like water anyway)... something I doubt they would have. We definitely will be able to cross that goal off your list. Although I'm not sure I feel about being considered a bad influence that needs to me specially noted on your calendar if you can avoid temptation. :blank:

I'd be more concerned with the temptation of drinking while we are playing golf this spring... that would be a big one for me (and I certainly plan to drink beer and shoot Fireball when we go).

That happened when he started crawling. I still need to anchor the TVs and put on the cabinet locks, though.

:talktothehand: You're not a bad influence. You've never tried to influence my debauchery (as hard to believe as that may sound.) I've just always given myself permission to go nuts whenever we've hung out (e.g. the failed 1/2 Mary at Rock Hall where you had like one beer the night before and I pounded as many as I could, then I ate a half dozen donuts instead of going for the run the next morning while you had peanut butter on toast.)

Yeah, that'll be a game-time decision. :scared: I've been playing without any booze with my dad and brother in-law, though, so I know I can have a good time golfing without it.

Woohoo! Goal was to be under 253 this week and I made it on the last day. Surprising, too, since I'd forgotten that Sara had planned to make breakfast for dinner last night. We had waffles with maple cream and the best bacon in the world. I hadn't saved up any calories to compensate for it, so I went well over target. It'll be fine, though.

Gonna try to get my homework done right now so that I can have a free day tomorrow. We're going to visit friends inside the beltway tonight.

Congrats on the first steps! Now life really changes. It just gets...more interesting (to say the least). I remember shortly after Mac started walking and one day he was crawling and I said "what the heck, kid? you don't need to crawl!"...it looked weird!

Just wait til he starts talking...should be any time now (if he isn't already). Mac was swearing in a store because he dropped something at 16 months..."oh F bomb"....real "proud papa" moment that he used it properly, but we curtailed our swearing around him pretty quickly at that point.

 Sara keeps yelling at me for swearing in front of him and I keep telling her that I think it's hilarious when little kids curse. We'll see! Right now he says, "Mama", "Dada" (rarely), "bubbles" (means washing his hands after he eats), and "Wow!" in an awed, breathless voice. The last is usually reserved for when he sees machinery operate (e.g. the washing machine, dryer, or ceiling fan.)

I screwed up on Saturday night and had beers over at our friends' house. No real ill effect other than self-loathing. Yesterday was 100% schoolwork. My one course is reliably taking 6.5 hours every weekend. The other hasn't had any real homework yet. That'll change this week. I need to stay home on Saturdays and try to get everything done just so I'm sure I have enough time to get things in before the midnight Sunday deadline.

    Strong workout this morning. :flex:

It is hilarious when it's someone else's little kid. Not so much when it's your kid. Believe me.

That's a lot of work for one course on a constant basis; hopefully the second course won't be piling it on also.

Kudos on the strong workout.....maybe it was the beers. :D

When my kids were little, every time I accidentally cursed in front of them, I would say "Pardon my French."

This was fine until their first day of French class when the teacher asked if anyone knew any words in the language.

When dear daughter was about 4 (maybe 3, I don't remember) we started her in a pre-K program for a few hours a day. When I picked her up one day she told me she got in trouble with her teacher and that I may be getting a phone call. I asked what happened and DD explained that she was talking to another student in front of the teacher and the other kid stopped paying attention.

Me: So what did you do?
DD: I told the kid what you've said to me and DS
    Me: And that is?
DD: Dammit, what am I doing, talking to the goddamn wall?

I made a pact with her that I would never say that again, and I haven't, and that she can't say that again either. I never got a phone call from the teacher.

 I LOL'd, that's so great! :claplow:

Already under my target for the week, which is great, though I'm concerned at the rising bodyfat% number over the past couple of days. We'll see how that gets sorted out. Mainly, I'm thrilled to be so close to breaking the 250 barrier. The rate of weight loss has been outstanding so far.

I got my wife a set of kettlebells for Valentines Day, then realized what a horrible gift that was and got her a silk flower centerpiece (in addition to the kettlebells,) then realized I'd forgotten to get a card last night and left a Post-it note for her this morning, then stopped at Safeway and picked up a proper card, then arranged for my parents to babysit on Thursday and booked a table at her favorite local restaurant for a belated V-Day dinner. Events seem to metastasize like this when I don't plan.

Sara actually loved the kettlebells.

The flowers and dinner were also a hit, but she was totally surprised and excited by the kettlebells. I think it would've had slightly less impact if there hadn't been all that traditional Valentine's Day stuff, tho. I'm looking forward to having dinner with her tomorrow, just the two of us.

I wore a suit to work today and everybody's freaking out. I definitely look good, though. My main motivation for wearing it was that I just bought three suits for my fat body and I'm rapidly approaching the point where they won't fit anymore. At the moment, I'm looking at something like $250 per wear. :blank:

C'est la vie, these suits being too big for me will be one of the best things that could happen.

I have training for most of the afternoon. We'll see if that actually happens. The chaos leading up to today seems to be dying down somewhat.

It's cloudy and cold out, but I'm still going to go for a walk outside to get my steps in. The FitBit app explodes in this anime-speed-lines shower of green when you hit all of your daily targets and I've become addicted to making that happen. :spaz:

Scale weight is up, but bodyfat is down. Water retention. Hardly a surprise after the indulgent feast last night: Foie gras dumplings, duck cassoulet, shrimp etouffee, shrimp & grits, and pork belly over three heirloom beans. Goddamn it was a good meal. I had three beers, too, which blew my "no alcohol" rule, but I'm not despondent.

I was expecting a shitty workout this morning, but blasted through it like a champ instead. I think this is the first time I've noticed the difference between working out in a calorie deficit vs. a calorie surplus.

I have to get a chart drafted up and off to my boss before going out to meet Philly at the casino. :spaz:

Done and done! That was actually my first time ever gambling in a casino. Thanks to Philly for showing me the ropes! :dreamy:

I kind of went off the rails this weekend, but it didn't derail my progress, apparently. My spreadsheet is looking good. Despite losing no scale weight Sunday to Sunday, I've cracked the 10 lb barrier for fat loss. And, of course, the scale weight is way down today.

I finished my schoolwork while there was still some daylight left yesterday. That felt good. We took Alex for a walk around the neighborhood, pushing him in his toy car.

It's another gorgeous day. I'm going to take Alex over to my parents' condo so that Sara can have a day to herself. I might try to talk my dad into heading out to the big local park to walk around the trails. I'll take the jogging stroller for its off-road capability. Before that, though, I have to clean puke off of the carseat and seat in Sara's car. :blank:

My afternoon with the baby was pure joy. We went to Whole Foods and he pointed at everything, making "ooh" and "aah" noises at all the sights as I pushed the cart. Then we went to my parents' condo. They were out when we arrived, so I put him in the jogging stroller and took him on the little nature trail they have around the complex. The toll this took on my cardiovascular system illustrates how far I have to go before I'm going to be comfortable running again. :blank:

He was super clingy and very communicative so I was able to deal with his needs effectively and keep him happy the whole time we were away. He started to miss his mommy in the evening, but after he got some solid food in him (spaghetti, meatballs, and Cheerios) he just wanted to show off for grandma and grandpa: Which he did by sitting in my lap, standing up, walking to the ottoman, turning around, and walking back to collapse into my arms in a laughing hug to the applause of grandparents over and over and over. :dreamy:

Back in the office. People seem a little hung over from the long weekend. I need to figure out how best to spend my time today and then start doing it. Will go for a walk at lunch.

I've been doing a linear progression program (ICF for Cutting) so far this year and my lifts are getting to the point where I have to take significant rest breaks between sets to get out all of the reps. It's time to de-load on several of the big compounds. I'm not happy about that, 'cause I want to keep progressing, but this isn't about getting bigger: It's about preserving muscle as I lose weight. I can push for PRs when I'm back in 34" waist jeans.

It makes me wonder if my previous stumbles coincided with midterms & finals, or just with the fact that I was trying to do too much on a caloric deficit.

I also tweaked my lower back when doing Good Mornings today. It's not seized up, but it's very sore and is reminding me of how often I use it. Going to take it very easy for the next couple of days.

I'm wearing a suit again today. The people in the office are getting more comfortable with the sight. Excellent.

I bombed out hard last night. I'd had a stressful day and so had Sara. I fixed myself a cocktail when I got home and that snowballed into beers, pizza, and like 600 calories worth of cookies. 3,915 calories consumed for the day, according to LoseIt. Felt like shit this morning. The pain of regret, indeed.

I'm going back to my zero-tolerance policy on alcohol for this cut before it completely derails my progress. There will be times when that sucks, but it won't suck as much as failure. This public declaration was brought to you by a quote I saw this morning:

"Whenever one takes a stand that is visible to others, there arises a drive to maintain that stand in order to look like a consistent person. The more public a stand, the more reluctant we will be to change it." - Robert Cialdini Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion

My lower back is so sore. It hasn't stiffened up, fortunately, but I'm not going to lift again until Monday, and even then I'm going to de-load on almost all my lifts. I'll do 45 minutes on the treadmill tomorrow morning instead of the planned lift day so that I'm not actually skipping a day of exercise.
