    Hey Zen, impressive numbers you're putting up.

    When you say 800 calories for lifting, is that a circuit of reps, alot of reps or do you use a particular guide? Also, 1400 calories burnt in one cardio session is intense, what activity are you doing?

    Was not posting numbers for awhile, but since my numbers are much bigger & consistent now... I will for world wide web fame & glory:

    May 18th thru 24th
    8400 calories | daily hill walking & one deadlift session
    May 25th - 31
    9420 calories | daily hill walking (some days heavyhands & 40lb vest | It makes me look like a freaky bomb strapped commando) & one deadlift session

    The details of all my workouts with Calorie counts are found in my journal ("easy part is probably over"); there's a link to it in my signature.

    The last time I remember that many cardio Calories in a day it was Jun 21st, where I did 1:20 of elliptical (for 1290 Calories) and then 227 Calories of "Grand Central Interval Training" (which is walking to the train station - it involves a gentle hill and several long stairways). On that day those two pieces were separated by 30 minutes of lifting. So technically it was not one session of cardio.

    I have a big advantage burning lots of Calories - I'm not particularly lean (about 18-21% bf). This helps two ways. Because I have a good deal of weight (215# today), bodyweight bearing exercises (like elliptical) burn a lot of Calories. And since I have a good deal of lean muscle mass, I can do those exercises at a decent intensity. Finally, since I have a good deal of fat, it can support a high rate of energy expenditure (the maximum rate at which you can mobilize fat for burning is proportional to how much fat you have). So if you had a guy at say 10% bf, then to mobilize fat as fast as I can? He would have to be a 430# guy at 10% bf. Sure, he would be able to burn incredible Calories with all that muscle, but soon he would have trouble keeping that going. Likewise, a person with as much fat as I have but without the muscle might be able to exercise all day long, but not at a high intensity.

    Now a lot of people who would like to burn a lot of Calories want to do it to lose fat. Well, the advice for people like that is to develop their lean muscle - increase the muscle mass and strength endurance as much as possible before you worry about how can you get a lot of exercise Calories.

    You got serious Calories going there, have you considered putting in a couple rest days? I would put that the day after the deadlifts. I would also skip the heavyhands. You can get the Calories back from the rest day by increasing the speed of the hill walking, or using the vest more often. Uphill walking with weight is a great way to condition yourself.

    Yeah, I rested alot more this week.
    (around 5200 calories as of tonight)

    8lb heavyhands are more for shoulder work endurance experiment.

    The heavyhands & activity arent really for burning more calories for calories sake.

    I am tracking calories now more to correlate them to my diet & how they don't seem to affect my lowering bodyfat or weight as much as just lowering my calories & lifting heavy & short does. (Probably I shouldnt have used the weightvest to prove that to myself as it added mass)

    After this experiment.... I am just going to cut all the excessive activity except to a 1 hour per day of walking with the weightvest & once every week deadlifting multiple heavy singles for as much as I can build up to, multiple singles in clean & press + chins .

    That will be it. I feel well rested & strong doing that.

    May try to add 10-30 lbs to the vest eventually when my traps totally sort out the current weight.

    It won't be any calories burned compared to now, but my body lowers bodyfat & builds muscle alot easier the other way for whatever reason & I feel really rested & that keeps me motivated & moving to my short heavy lifting.

    This challenge helped me to focus & figure that out for myself.

    But I do have to say my recent number of calories burned came more through sheer hours at it, than intensity like yours were.

    My only fatigue intensity came from the deadlifts. Walking with the weightvest doesnt affect my recovery anymore like in the beginning.

    Hi Zen! Looks like you're doin great :D. I just went for swimming today though I can't really tell how much calories I spent. And I just sold my elliptical trainer for almost half the price I bought. -_-" Well, I still got my stationary bike, treadmill and foldable bench for weight-training and of course my fitness membership.... I've been exercising so little now that walking up the stairs makes me breathless. I guess I'll be doing more cardio to burn off fats and keep me fit from now on. Did I say that the last time? :P Well, Glad to see you're still here mann.... :tu:
