Thats fairly broad, look at the fat loss stickies in beginners forum.
Basically, eat less, more frequently, higher protein, and try to build some muscle so it burns more calories.

My mom lost over 100 pounds simply with fast walking 1 hour a day and nothing else. She was like 250 and now is under 150.

My mother did the same thing. It takes a while. You'll see big gains at first, but eventually it slows down. That's the part where most people get discouraged. A good thing to do is not weigh yourself at all if you can help it. It's a terrible de-motivational tool if you don't see the numbers you want. I told my mom the same things. Look at the simple things on your diet. Look at your exercise. Those are easy to figure out what you can fix.

It's just getting into a different routine. Grocery shopping and knowing what are good things to buy. Don't purchase things that are destructive for you. I'm not saying cut out all sugar in your tea and such, but if you sit down and eat a bag of chips for a snack then that's something you can easily cut out.

Mom's biggest problem was realizing that it's a problem to eat a bag of chips for a snack. She'd get very defensive if you pointed out what she was doing, but like an alcoholic they have to come to it on their own terms. There are many delicious foods out there that taste great, are easy to make, and are good for you. Just have to discover them.

It's an education that will always give back. You'll become a better, more diversified cook when you keep learning. If she's looking for a crash diet to lose 30 lbs in 30 days she's wasting her time. If she's comfortable with losing 2-3 lbs a week for 6 months she's in the right place. What a lot of people don't realize is that it's like anything you're not good at. It's hard fucking work. Once you get it down though and people start complimenting you. There isn't a better feeling. You can be proud of all the work you did and it becomes easier to not be destructive to yourself.

The mental game is the tough part. The rest is common sense.

:)Hello, It’s been interesting reading the several post with what
is, I think, very good advice. My small contribution, if you will
allow such is (and only slightly different from some of the
previously expressed notions and simply MY opinion)……..never,
repeat……..NEVER shy away from the scales………they are not
an enemy, no, simply a reflection of where you are in relation to
where you choose to be; merely an indicator of “trends”, a guide if you
will. Sculpting our bodies to be what we choose is not a difficult
thing providing of course we are serious about doing JUST THAT!
My few simple suggestions for your lady friend would be……use a
smaller plate, buy a scale and DON’T be afraid to use it to full
advantage (Unlike a loving friend who wouldn’t want to hurt your
feelings………if you’ve eaten too much it will let you know!!) and
possibly the single most important ingredient (in my experience and
to my thinking) tell your lady to lift weights………as heavy as she
is able and to NEVER stop pushing the weight UP!!

Do, by all means ‘go full throttle’ (as an older woman the thought of
wasting time is odious to me as ‘I’ haven’t the luxury of ‘time’
to waste) Someone in a previous post mentioned “once you get it
down and people start complimenting you there isn’t a better feeling”.
    ……….Wow, was he ever right!!

You have come to the right place as the members of this forum are
a knowledgeable and willing resource for people who desire information
and support in their pursuit of a better body and healthier lifestyle.

Do forgive my rambling post……..I confess (and why not as it is terribly
obvious) I’m not a ‘fountain’ of information rather more a ‘cheerleader’
Good luck to you and your lady friend.:tu:

Bull, If I was a woman looking for a way to train, I couldn't do better than follow Carole's lead. She has the information and the results to show for it. So take what she says as fact:tucool:

What worked for me was learning why I was doing what I was doing. Then I had to learn what worked best for my body. I wish your friend the best on her journey.
