Going back a day, 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes in the sauna would have been a good compromise. As you have posted there are health benefits to the sauna and most of the benefits from cardio happen in the first 30 minutes from the studies I've read.

Yes, but 30 minutes in a sauna burns only about 40-50 calories, it is more productive to do the cardio.

    Day #240 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 15,213 271 day average: 13,368

    Sleep: Sat / Sun 9.24 (deep: 0.41; light: 6.14; rem: 2.29)

Sun - 9/29/19. back training; abs, 35 treadmill (before lifting - 2.19 miles). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 27/29. No buy year is almost 2/3 complete. September was a challenging month. I had $45.00 balance to spend at Banana Republic / Gap (from my credit card rewards), and it expires 1/31/20. I had to use it during the no buy year. So I did buy some stuff at Banana Republic, and it was supposed to come to about $7.00 (after the $45.00). But the cashier made an error, something that was on sale rang up at full price. She manually entered the sale price, then calculated 40% off (everything was 40% off), then at the end, the register took 40% off again, so the total transaction was free. If a cashier makes a mistake in my favor, I say nothing. I figure there are plenty of times the cashier makes an error in the opposite direction that I don't pick up, so it all evens out. So technically I was within the no buy year still. But after that, all this pent up shopping came to the surface, and I wanted to buy a ton of things. I did end up buying 2 oscillating fans. I am someone who hates stale air. If the ceilings in my house were higher, I would have ceiling fans in every room. I saw these fans, I liked them, and I bought two. They are not the cheapo fans you would buy in Home Depot. Then I still had some money on the Bed Bath & Beyond gift card (after the air fryer purchase), I bought a dehydrator. That used up the balance on the gift card and then some (I am trying to emulate Seltzer, first the air fryer, now the dehydrator. Don't look for me to buy a "sous vide") . Lastly in Sept, I ended up buying a pair of pants, and a belt. The bright spot is food. Normally, I average $50.00 per week on food at the supermarket. In August, I spent $40.00 for the whole month, and Sept, I spent approximately $15.00 for the whole month. No I am not starving, I am using the food I have in my house. Like I mentioned a few days ago about the canned salmon. It is not doing anyone any good for it just to sit in my kitchen pantry, and collect dust. Probably my diet is not optimal, but even when I was spending the $50.00 a week, I still wasn't buying vegetables. Sadly, I still have plenty of food left in my house.

    Day #241 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 15,819 272 day average: 13,377

Sleep: Sun / Mon 3.53 (deep: 0.01; light: 3.35; rem: .17) - I did sleep poorly, though not that poorly as the watch recorded.

Mon - 9/30/19. 60 elliptical; 65 treadmill (4.08 miles). Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 28/30. It is only 9:00 am, and I already reached 15K steps. I wanted to get the steps done, as I will have little time later. Calories for Sept were higher than I planned, probably slightly over 3,300 a day average after today is complete (unless I go crazy, the potential is always there). I planned on under 3K. Sept was a good month for fitness. For me it is either / or, I can never get both nutrition and workouts both good in the same month. I guess I need the calories to fuel the workouts.

    Sleep: Mon / Tues 8.07 (deep: 0.00; light: 4.47; rem: 3.20)

Tues - 10/01/19. leg; ab training. Sauna: 25 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 1/1. I did the leg day that I missed on Friday. Tomorrow I hope to train shoulders; triceps. This month, I am planning on 2,900 calories a day. Possibly I might fast on some days, and have more calories than 2,900 on the other days. As long as it averages 2,900 is my prime concern. This week, I am planning on a fast day Thursday.

    Day #243 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 13,606 274 day average: 13,402

    Sleep: Tues / Weds 7.31 (deep: 0.16; light: 5.27; rem: 1.48)

Weds - 10/02/19. chest (3 exercises); abs. 65 treadmill (before lifting - 4.07 miles). Sauna: 30 minute total (25/5). m-t-d workouts: 2/2. Last night I was short on steps, I had about 8,700. I had written my floor would be 10K. Even though the weather was perfect last night, I had to force myself to go for a walk. When I got to 10K, I thought maybe I would try to at least reach my average (13,400), but once that was reached, I couldn't get myself to continue to 15K. Like I said, the weather was perfect, in the whole time I walked, I didn't come across one person, not even someone walking their dog. I have 11,700 now, so I think there will be more walking tonight in my future. Today probably will be the last summer type day of this year. :( I am glad I took off from work to enjoy it.

Next time I go food shopping, I am going to try buying the soft corn tortilla's. As a gluten free substitute for bread, and use it more like a wrap. I had some chicken taco's yesterday, and whey were made with soft corn tortilla's. I had no ill affects.

Thurs - 10/03/19. back training (9 exercises). Sauna: 15 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 3/3. I thought I would have a problem waking up to workout this morning, this being my first day back at work since last Friday. Yesterday and the day before, the alarms went off, and I slept through them. I bought the corn tortilla's yesterday, I am going to try one tomorrow.

    Sleep: Thurs / Friday 8.26 (deep: 0.25; light: 4.36; rem: 3.25)

Friday - 10/04/19. rest day. m-t-d workouts: 3/4. I woke up feeling really worn out, so decided on a rest day. I hate to take rest days on Friday's, since that is the only day I get a spot in the park & ride regardless of when I get there. Speaking of parking, a week or two ago, when I returned to my car, there was a note from the security people, that if the car is parked there again, it will get towed. Now I have to park even further, in the actual shopping mall parking lot. Now it is not that bad, but it won't be fun when it gets cold. The mall has security too. I would like to park at the outer edge of the parking lot, so the car is closer to the park & ride, but my car would be noticeable to security, since nobody else parks there. I instead park further into the mall, where the employees park, so my car doesn't attract attention of the mall security. It is a further walk, but parking at this mall is my last parking option for my commute. TGIF.

    Day #246 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 10,972; 277 day average: 13,381

    Sleep: Friday / Sat 8.25 (deep: 0.40; light: 5.24; rem: 2.21)

Sat - 10/05/19. chest; abs; 65 minutes treadmill (before lifting - 4.05 miles). Sauna: 30 miinutes. m-t-d workouts: 4/5. I can see how people hate the treadmill. When I ran, I didn't mind it, I actually liked it. Now that I walk, it is torture. I didn't plan on walking so long today, but I was watching an hour long tv show, and I wanted to see how it ended. I unfortunately, started on the treadmill right at the start of the show. But on the bright side, I already have 16K steps today. Lifting was Meh, probably due to so much cardio beforehand. I had a flare up of psoriasis last night / today, which put me in a bad mood. Inside my elbow, and fingers are back to normal, and I thought things were going in the right direction. But now the upper part of my chest is red, and is begging to be itched. I haven't itched it, and the only good thing, is that I take the oral medication once a week on Saturday, so maybe that will help calm it down. I also don't think that being gluten free has any effect on my skin, but it definitely has helped my gastro issues.

First 4 days of the month, and nutrition hasn't been too good. Today will be no exception. I was pondering while on the treadmill if I ever will get my nutrition together, to lose fat, and become as thin as I wanted to be (165-175). I seems within grasp, only 13 pounds to reach the high side of that goal, but it is elusive. I just can't seem to get it together. The people on youtube make weight loss look so easy.

    Day #247 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 19,185; 278 average: 13,402.

Sleep yesterday: 10.40 (deep: 1.05; light: 6.41; rem: 2.54) - seems about 3 hours too much, but I write down whatever the watch shows.

Sun - 10/06/19. back; abs; 30 minutes elliptical (before lifting). Sauna: 30 miinutes. m-t-d workouts: 5/6. I had a better workout than yesterday, maybe because I did the elliptical instead of the treadmill, and for a shorter period of time. This is the day I am going into my attic, and search if there is an animal up there. I am bringing a flashlight, baseball bat, and a knife. In case it is hungry and attacks me. My other concern, is that while I am up there, the animal crawls down the stairs from the attic, and is in my house. I am worried mostly of the difficulty of getting it out of the house, and the damage it can do while in the house. My first step, is to change the light bulb in the attic that is burned out. I haven't heard any noises from the attic in months, then all of a sudden 2 nights ago, I heard footsteps. It sounded bigger than a mouse, smaller than a raccoon. The footstep were slow, so I don't think it is a squirrel either. I hope it is not a rat. Home Depot sells rat traps, they are identical to mouse traps, but they are 10 times bigger.:scared: I think it did damage already, since I have a light switch in the living room that turns on a ceiling light, and all of a sudden, it was flickering when I put it on, now it doesn't work at all (it is not the bulbs). It could be coincidental, but maybe not. I read that animals can try to eat wiring, and can even cause fires. If I don't find anything, regardless, I am setting some mouse traps. If it turns out there are no mice, and I hear noise again, I am going to call animal control. Maybe before that last step, I will try rat traps first.

Mon - 10/07/19. leg day. Sauna: 35 minutes (25/10). m-t-d workouts: 6/7. Well I didn't go in the attic yesterday as planned. My excuse being it was getting late in the day when I got home, and was thinking if it did escape into the house, I didn't want to have it running around my house late at night. If I get it done in the morning, and that happens, at least there is more time to get it out. The good news is that I didn't hear any noise coming from the attic last night. I am off from work today, tomorrow & Weds. Today and tomorrow are vacation days, Weds the office is closed for a Jewish Holiday. I am hardly working in October, I am off 5 vacation days, and there are 6 Jewish holidays my office is closed. Add the weekends, and I am only working less than 10 days the whole month. It will be hard to reach a decent amount of steps today, since I didn't do any cardio at the gym. Tomorrow - shoulder training (which I skipped last week).

    Sleep yesterday: 8.55 (deep: 1.11; light: 5.01; rem: 2.43)
    .

Tues - 10/08/19. shoulders / triceps; abs, 30 treadmill (after lifting). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 7/8. I am one of the cool kids today, I am sitting in Starbucks with my laptop, typing this update out. I almost never take my laptop out of the house, that is going to change. My laptop is my most underutilized electronic device. This is a preview of what my retirement will be like (I have no plans to retire anytime soon). Only when I am retired, I won't be able to afford Starbucks. You actually are allowed to sit in Starbucks, use their restrooms, and you don't have to buy anything. I would never do that, it is a business, not a public library. I am going to drop wireless when my contract is up at home, and not have wireless at home anymore. I can use my phone, and I would rather spend the $40.00 at Starbucks monthly buying coffee, instead of with Verizon. I don't get much use of wireless at home, I don't have Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime.

After my embarrassing 4,209 steps yesterday, I forced myself on the treadmill today. Today I actually jogged for 1/2 the time (if you consider 4.8 miles per hour jogging - more like walking fast). I was able to cut 5 minutes off the treadmill. I normally walk 35 minutes to reach 2 miles. I did it today in 30. Sadly, I looked at my activity tracker which also tracks my heart rate, and it was in the high 140's while doing the jogging. It shows how out of condition I am. So far though, my heel feels okay. Tomorrow - just cardio.

Friday - 10/11/19. leg training. Sauna: 15 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 9/11. I couldn't find the sleeve today for the bar today for doing squats, so I did box squats without it. It wasn't that bad today, I think I will stop using the sleeve, so I can get used to it. Tomorrow I am going to train chest. Yesterday I was going to fast, but I succumbed to eating at about 8:30 pm. I had just 3 & 1/2 hours left. :bang: I am still doing intermittent fasting, to be honest, it is not really working for me, but I don't really have an appetite during the day now that I am used to it. Day #253 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 6,599; 284 average: 13,289.

    Sleep yesterday: 7.22 (deep: 0.14; light: 5.45; rem: 1.51)

Saturday - 10/12/19. chest, ab training; 30 minutes treadmill (before lifting - 2.25 miles). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 10/12. Workout was nothing to write home about, but it is done. At least I got some cardio in today too. So when I went in the attic a few days ago, everything looked okay from what I can see. Only part of the attic has floor boards, and it slopes down, so I couldn't go to the edges, and I didn't go to the parts with no floor boards. I walked around (hunched over), and didn't see any animals or damage. I changed the light bulb when I was up there. I didn't put any mouse traps when I went up, but that was a mistake, since again last night, I heard steps. I am pretty sure it is a mouse, or mice. Tonight I am putting some traps down. The joys of being a homeowner. Happy Saturday.

Good luck catching the critters before they do any damage.

Thanks for the reminder that I need to rebait set my traps. It is that time of year.

Hopefully it is just mice in your attic and not larger critters like a squirrel.

I put 2 mouse traps with peanut butter in the attic last night, I didn't hear any noises last night. I was expecting to see at least one dead mouse this morning, but the peanut butter was there, and the mouse traps were untouched.

I don't think it is a squirrel. I had cut down all of the bushes around my house, so the squirrels couldn't get on the roof. One time I was watching them, and I they climbed a bush, and jumped from the bush to the roof. But yesterday, I was in the street in front of my house, and I watched a squirrel climb up the telephone pole, and it ran across the wire on to the neighbors roof. So, cutting down the bushes was not a fool proof way to stop the squirrels from getting on the roof as I thought.

    Day #254 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 10,643; 285 average: 13,281.

    Sleep yesterday: 8.24 (deep: 0.14; light: 5.03; rem: 3.07)

Sunday - 10/13/19. back, ab training; 35 minutes treadmill (before lifting - 2.62 miles). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 11/13. Very good workout today. I am not sure about changing to split workouts anymore. I seem to still be making progress on my back, so I think I will keep things as they are now until progress stops. My lats are now pretty big, if I had a smaller waist, my back would look huge. I have no particular order to my workouts, it depends on how crowded the gym gets. Today I got there early (8:15), and it was relatively crowded. I decided on bent over barbell rows first, since the benches get taken up pretty quickly, and I saw a free one. They have 2 lat pull down stations, and they are always being used, so that was next. After that, no particular order.

I think I copied the same nutrition data as Thursday by mistake, or yesterday I ate identical food as Thursday, which I don't think happened. So the below numbers will probably be revised.

    Day #255 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Steps yesterday: 13,209; 286 average: 13,281.

    Sleep yesterday: 3.52 (deep: 0.17; light: 3.22; rem: .13)

Monday - 10/14/19. Shoulders; Triceps; treadmill (30 minutes - after lifting). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 12/14. This morning, I look at the mouse traps in the attic, and one mouse trap, the peanut butter was gone, the mouse trap was on its side, and didn't go off. The other trap, there was a dead gray mouse. I don't know if that mouse first went to the other trap, ate the peanut butter, and then went to the second trap where it met its demise. Or if there are more mice up there (my money is on that theory). I haven't heard any noises in my actual house or seen any evidence of mice, so I haven't been putting mouse traps in the house, but I am going to put 2-3 in the house tonight. I have nothing to lose by putting traps in the house also. Possibly they are in the house, and somewhere they made a hole in the wall, and crawl into the attic inside the walls. I don't like the idea of mice inside the walls of my house.:scared: They could eat the electrical wiring, and cause a fire.

I was a witness to an accident this weekend. I was behind a car in the right lane of a heavily trafficked street, and that car stopped to let another car turn left from a side street into the street we were on. That car was inching out, to see if there was anyone coming in the left lane behind us. Unfortunately there was, and that car didn't see the car inching out. There was a lot of damage to both cars, but nobody appeared to be injured. Coincidentally, I almost caused an accident. I was driving on a highway after leaving the gym, instead of looking ahead, I looked at something on the right, and in that time (a few seconds), when I looked ahead of me again, the car in front of me was slowing down to a crawl, and I was still going at highway speed, I had to floor my brakes, and luckily there was nobody driving close behind me. I would like to get a new car with the accident avoidance features that many new cars now have. My car is 4 years old, and the only thing it has is that it can detect if I am backing up, and there is something I am close to hitting. That would not help in the situation I had. But I am not getting a new car, I need to think longer range, when cars have even more safety features, and possibly become self driving. I did learn a valuable lesson, and now I am more careful when I am driving (eyes forward). That reminds me of a youtube video I saw recently regarding urinal rules: eyes forward, keep proper distance.

Glad that nobody appeared hurt in the accident you witnessed and that you avoided one in your close call. Nothing like that to get your heart rate pounding.

In my experience, if you've got mice it worth deploying a significant number of traps to be sure to get them. When I lived at my parents house we had a mouse/mice and got a humane trap. Think we caught a couple but it wasn't long until all you could hear at night was mice scurrying around and chewing holes through the floorboards. Half the upstairs rooms ended up with holes in a corners of the room that the mice made. Downstairs the floors were concrete. The final straw though was waking up to find a mouse under the pillow. We bought lots of the spring traps after that. For a week or so, every night you'd hear three or four traps go off.

Those places where it's warm (near boilers or hot water tanks) or food is available (the kitchen) would be good sites for the traps.

Similarly, I saw the aftermath of an accident leaving work today. A car had left the road on the exit of a roundabout, taken out the roadside barrier and completely crossed the pavement/sidewalk. Fortunately it doesn't look like any pedestrians were involved. Not surprised to have seen an accident though, the driving conditions have been awful the last few weeks as it seems to have rained heavily every day for weeks.
