Weds - 8/07/19. shoulders / triceps; abs. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 6/7. Even though I took a rest day yesterday, I feel beyond tired today. But I still had a good workout. I almost always feel relieved when it is a lifting day, and not a cardio day, and today was no exception. I need someone to secretly videotape me walking, to see if my posture is as bad as I think it is. I say secretly, because if I asked someone to do it, I would focus on my posture, and I would not get a true picture. Unfortunately, I itched the inside of my elbow on my left arm, and now it is all red. I put medication on it from a prior doctor visit, and hopefully it will get better before the weekend. The way it stands now, there will be no short sleeve shirts on Friday to work, and on the weekend. I think if I continue to put the ointment on it, and don't touch it, there is a chance for recovery by Friday.

Fri - 8/09/19. leg training. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 8/9. I must have been delirious when I wrote earlier this week that I was thinking the skin inside my elbow would be back to normal today, since it is as red as a lobster today. It looks terrible. But at least it is not itching me (at the moment). Lucky it is not that hot today, so I was able to wear a long sleeve shirt and not look like a mental patient. I think I might know why my skin flared up again, after 2 years of no problem. I had bought a supplement "Ashwaganda powder" which is supposed to have many health benefits. But soon after I started taking it, I read that it speeds up the immune system. I stopped taking the Ashwaganda once I found that out. I take a drug for psoriasis (methotrexate) to slow down the immune system. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. But about 2 weeks ago, I saw the package in my closet, and started to use it again, not even recalling why I stopped taking it in the first place. Then I remembered why this morning. I am going to throw it out when I get home.

When I read about your elbow, I was thinking about asking what have you eaten recently that you were not eating before. Glad you figured it out.

Thank you. But I have a history of usually being wrong on these type of things, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    Running / walking today: 0.00. w-t-d: 6.83; m-t-d: 6.83.

    Day #190 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

Sat - 8/10/19. chest; ab training. Sauna: 35 minutes total. m-t-d workouts: 9/10. I watch a youtube channel, this woman is also doing a "no buy year". Most youtube channels about "no buy year" are awful, hers is excellent. She is doing her no buy year for totally different reasons than me. Friday she put out a very good video on being productive. One thing she said that when she gets home from work, she doesn't sit down until everything she wants to get accomplished is done. Even though she is tired, and wants to sit down, she knows if she sits down, not only will the stuff she wants to accomplish not get done, but it will cause her stress, thinking about it while she is watching tv or on the computer. I can totally relate. Once I sit down, I am finished. Many times I think, I will walk after I am done eating, but it usually doesn't happen if I spend time on my phone, or watch tv first. Sometimes, I can't even put the clothing I am going to wear to work into my gym bag the night before (too much effort). Then I am forced to do it in the morning, causing me to get to the gym later than I want. It never occurred to me to not sit down when I get home from work. Do I really need to sit, after sitting most of the day at work, and on the bus ride home. I am going to try it on Monday.

Skin still looks terrible, but it isn't itchy. I don't know if isn't itchy because I stopped taking the Ashwaganda, or because I started taking allergy pills. I got that tip from the doctor, allergy pills make you less itchy (even if you have no allergies). They make you sleepy though, so I take it before I go to bed. I wore a long sleeve shirt while working out, and I am wearing one now. I take my psoriasis medication once a week on Saturday (today), so hopefully all this will soon be in the past.

    Day #192 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

    Sun - 8/11/19. back; ab training. Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 10/11.

Mon - 8/12/19. 65 treadmill. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 11/12. I am driving to the gym this morning, and about 1/3 the way there, I realize I forgot my phone. While it is something I do not like, it is not the end of the world. Just from that comment alone, you can tell I am not young.:) I drive about another 5 minutes, then I remember that this month, my bus pass is on the phone (most months, I buy a physical printed pass). So I headed home again, since I am not wasting $15.00 on bus tickets, when I already have a bus pass on my phone. So I got to the gym late, but still was able to spend 65 minutes on the treadmill, mostly running for 6 minutes, then walking for 3, alternating the whole time. I am planning on fasting today, but since it is 9:45 am and I am already hungry, don't know how that is going to go. Only black coffee today. Speaking of coffee, I went to Starbucks after working out yesterday, and had a cup of coffee. This is my tip of the day: If you pay with a registered card at Starbucks, coffee refills are free (while you are in the Starbucks). So anytime I go to Starbucks, I almost always drink a cup of coffee there, and get a refill to go. Last night, I am watching a movie "Horrible Bosses", it is not new, but I never saw it. I was falling asleep, so I drank the Starbucks coffee. Which was a mistake, since then I couldn't fall asleep until 2:30, and then had to wake up for the gym at 4:30 am. Interesting tidbit about Horrible Bosses, Megan Markle (now British royalty) had a part. It wasn't a huge part, you would never recognize her since she had blond hair in the movie. I didn't even know it was her until the ending credits, I had to go back to see which part she had, and to see what she looked like. Tomorrow, I hope to train shoulders.

Tues - 8/13/19. shoulders; triceps; abs. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 12/13. Yesterday I did fast. I had only black coffee from about 9:00 pm on Sunday, until about 7:30 pm yesterday. Then I just had Crystal Light lemonade (zero calories), and some vitamins. Then I woke up at about 1:30 am, and ate 4 sticks of string cheese (4 ounces). I wasn't even that hungry, not sure why I did that. I put 2 LaraBars in my backpack in case I got hungry during the day, but ate them on the bus as after workout nutrition. No more food until about 7:30 pm tonight (just coffee with splenda & milk). I thought my workout would suffer today, but I felt pretty good today working out. I am thinking I want to replicate this (fasting) on Thursday of this week. Tomorrow - cardio.

Skin update. Skin is improving, no itch. But it is slow to recover. The skin inside of my elbow (which was the worst area) looks better, it is not "lobster red" anymore. Still red and noticeable, but not as bad today. I was able to wear a short sleeve shirt today when working out. It is definitely noticeable to anyone looking at my arm, but that didn't bother me today. I took photo's of the arm on the weekend when it was at it's worst. I haven't decided if I will post any of them.

Weds - 8/14/19. 60 elliptical; 25 treadmill. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 13/14. I took off from work today. I had to go to the car dealer for a recall notice, and an oil change and tire rotation. I didn't need to go to the dealer for the oil change and tire rotation, but since I was there, I figured they might as well do it. I was debating if I should get a new battery. The car is 4 years old, and while nothing is wrong with the battery now, I don't think they last more than 5 years usually, and I would hate to get stuck in the winter. Maybe next time, or maybe it might be better to buy one at Costco, and put it in myself. Even I can handle that (I think). My next stop is a blood test, then I need to go to Home Depot, and then get a hair cut, then the dentist. Exciting stuff. :) At least today, I already have 16K steps. Tomorrow back training, and also tomorrow I am fasting again. Lucky I am fasting tomorrow, while waiting for the car at the car dealer, I ate a bagel and 1/2 (buttered).

Advance Auto does free battery installation with purchase of new battery. The cost is the same if you install it yourself. I would call the nearest one to you and confirm since installation is not available at all locations. Other competitors may offer the same deal.

When you wrote that, I was thinking it must be a chain near you. But I looked, and they are all over the place, I never heard of them. Thank you.

    Running / walking today: 0.00. w-t-d: 8.23; m-t-d: 13.47.

Thurs - 8/15/19. back training. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 14/15. Fasting today. Just 14 & 1/2 hours left (at a minimum). Going to try to do the same thing as Monday, just black coffee, and when I get home from work - Crystal Light Lemonade. Tomorrow leg training.

Yesterday I took my usual blood test to check the liver enzymes (tested because of the medicine I take). The doctor has a pre-printed form from Quest Diagnostics, and he checks off the tests he wants done. Before I gave it to the woman testing the blood, I checked off - Celiac Panel. So in a few days, I should know if I have Celiac Disease, or Celiac Intolerance. When the doctor gets back the results, I wonder if he will think, why did they test for Celiac Disease? My plan of action is going to be that if I have Celiac or Gluten Intolerance, I am going to be very strict about cutting out gluten, and donate what I can, and throw out the rest of the food in my house that has gluten. If I don't have it (according to the test), I am still going to no longer buy any food products that have gluten, but I am going to finish what I have in my house, significantly cut down on gluten, but still occasionally (infrequently) have things with gluten in it like pizza, and Chick Fil A. If I am told I don't have it, I am still cutting down on gluten because my gastro problems decrease significantly, causing me to feel better. Coincidentally, when I was waiting at the service area of the car dealer yesterday, I was skimming through a magazine. There was an article by a nutritionist, and she said many of her clients want to be tested for Celiac, and inevitably when they do get checked, almost nobody has it.

Friday - 8/16/19. rest day. m-t-d workouts: 14/16. Woke up really tired, so decided on a rest day today. I did end up fasting yesterday, except for black coffee and Crystal Light (after work). There is that moment when I get home from work, and I have to decide, is this going to happen?, or am I going to succumb and eat. The calories below are a combination of corrections from prior days, stuff I ate but didn't include on prior days, and what I ate after midnight (just 4 ounces of string cheese). Nothing else until after work tonight (except coffee with milk and low fat sweetener). Tomorrow I plan to train legs, the workout I had planned for today. TGIF.

Sat - 8/17/19. legs, abs. Sauna: 35 minute total. m-t-d workouts: 15/17. Lackluster day at the gym today. Couldn't get myself on a piece of cardio equipment. But going was better than not going. Today I did box squats, with lighter weights. It proves to me I can squat much lower, but when the box isn't there, I don't do it. Carbs have been higher than I would have liked, but I am working on finishing the potatoes, Cherrio's, and Kraft Macaroni in my house. I definitely will no longer be buying Kraft macaroni in the future, Cherrio's are okay as they gluten free (but high in carbs), and while I will buy potatoes again, I am going to take a break. Tomorrow I take measurements and weight, I hope the scale is kind to me tomorrow. Happy Saturday.

Still didn't get the results from my blood test, which I am anxiously awaiting. Falling behind on steps. Need to take a walk at lunch time.

I understand your frustration as something similar happened to me last week; your body was telling you it needed the rest and knowing you all will be better in the long run.

Tues - 8/20/19. 60 elliptical; 17 treadmill. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 17/20. Day # 200 of the no buy year. :bored: Can't believe I am on day #200 of the no buy year. Time goes so fast. It is going much better than I anticipated. Even when this is over, I will never go back to the way I was before. Checked the Quest Diagnotic's website, my blood results are not yet posted. According to their FAQ, they normally post within a week. I took the blood test last Wednesday, so it should be there either today or tomorrow. Truthfully, it doesn't really matter, though I would like confirmation, since there is a world of difference on how I feel after just 2 no gluten days, compared to how I felt on the weekend. Even my skin feels much less itchy after just 2 days. Tomorrow - shoulder training.

    Running / walking yesterday: 0.00. w-t-d: 2.04; m-t-d: 15.51.

Steps yesterday: 18,844 267 day average: 14,174 (goal to average at least: 15K steps a day)

    Day #201 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

Weds - 8/21/19. shoulders; triceps; abs. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 18/21. Don't think Garmin watch is working today. I charged it on Monday, so it was fully charged. Today, all it shows on the screen is Garmin, not the time, and it won't sync with my phone. I am charging it now, but I don't think that is the issue. Normally I also wear the Microsoft band (step counter), but I haven't been, to give the skin on my wrist a rest. So in other words, probably no step count today. :( Still no blood test results. Tomorrow - back training.

Tues calories: Don't have info with me today.

    Day #202 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

Thurs - 8/22/19. rest day (forced). m-t-d workouts: 18/22. Today, I get to the gym at 5:05 am like usual, and the gym is dark, but there are some cars outside with their lights on. I wait about 30 minutes in my car, I assumed the one who opens the gym overslept. But then someone comes out of the dark gym, and tells us they have no electric. I was driving home, but that seemed kind of stupid, so instead I went to Starbucks, got dressed for work in the bathroom (no shower today). Spent some time in Starbucks relaxing, drinking a cup of coffee, while spending time on my phone. Since I was on the bus so early, I got to NYC in no time (like 30 minutes, instead of the 1 hour + when I take a later bus). Now I am at work (about 90 minutes earlier than usual). Kudos to this Starbucks (and their customers) for keeping their bathrooms so clean. There is a remote chance that I will workout after work, but most likely that won't happen. There is also a chance I might fast today, but not exactly sure if that will happen, but I am leaning towards that now. For some reason, usually I have better luck when I only drink black coffee on the days I fast, today at the Starbucks I had coffee with milk and Splenda. Maybe I can change that today.

Garmin is officially out of commission. I am wearing the Microsoft band, but yesterday I didn't put it on until I got to work, and since Microsoft took down their app, I can no longer retrieve the step count from my phone for prior days. I forgot about that, and forgot to look at the watch at the end of the day, so I don't have an accurate step count for yesterday. That prior day information is not available on the watch. I used the step count the last time I looked at it (from memory).

Day #1 Gluten free period (start 8/22/19)

Friday - 8/23/19. leg day. Sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 19/23. There is going to be no running in my future. While my foot feels okay when running, later I pay the price when walking. It becomes painful to walk, and sometimes even when I am sitting it is in pain. I am hoping with no running at all, the pain will diminish or go away completely. I got the results back from my blood test, and I don't have Celiac Disease (big surprise). There is no test for gluten intolerance, which I know I have. I am going to go a minimum of 30 days with no gluten, and see the results. I am hoping at the very least, the skin issues I have decrease or disappear. That is what they promise on youtube. I did fast yesterday. The calories are for prior day adjustments, and also I ate 9 sticks of string cheese (630 cal 72 g protein; 36 grams fat; 9 grams carbs) at 12:30 am. That doesn't sound like a lot, but each stick is 1 ounce, so that is over 1/2 pound of cheese. I almost always have adjustments to the day before, since I write down the food plan ahead of time, and if I don't eat exactly to plan, there are adjustments that fall into the next day. TGIF.

    Day #204 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

Sat - 8/24/19. chest; abs, 20 minutes (walking - before lifting). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 20/24. I am off to Home Depot to buy 3 or 4 cans of driveway sealer, and a 50 pound bag of sand. If you mix the driveway sealer with sand, it gives a thicker coat, it looks better, and is more durable. I have never done that, but that is what I read on the internet. They sell the sealer mixed with sand already, but I think it might be better for me to mix it, that way I can control how thick to make it. Also buying paint to paint the front and side door of my house. Happy Saturday.

For the step count yesterday, I forgot to look at the total at the end of the day.

Steps yesterday: 11,404 271 day average: (goal to average at least: 15K steps a day) - didn't calculate yet.

    Day #205 - No Buy Year (2/01/19-1/31/20)

Sun - 8/25/19. back; abs, 20 minutes (walking - before lifting). Sauna: 30 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 21/25. Meh workout today, didn't train my back for 10 days, and it felt it. I didn't buy the driveway sealer yesterday. I have a few gift cards from Home Depot, but I realized when I got to the store, none were with me. I am sick of having gift cards unused, and buying stuff in those same stores with a credit card. Sunday in the county I live in they have blue laws, so Home Depot is closed today. I could drive to NY state, I live not far from the border, and go to Home Depot there, but I am not going to. I might take a personal day tomorrow, and buy it tomorrow morning after the gym, and do it tomorrow. If not, I will buy it after work during the week, and do it next weekend. I ate more than usual yesterday, but I plan on fasting Monday (if I go to work), or Tuesday (if I take a personal day tomorrow).
