    Thank you.

    Running / walking today: 0.00; w-t-d: 0.00; m-t-d: 2.55

    Steps Sunday: 7,030
    Steps Monday: 12,317
    Steps yesterday: 13,644

Sleep: Sun / Mon night: 4.26 (2.22 deep, 2.04 light) - I think it is incorrect - I slept longer.
Sleep: Mon / Tues night: 8.04 (3.56 deep, 4.08 light)
    Sleep: Tues / Weds night: 5.24 (2.59 deep, 2.25)

workout streak: 7 days (prior streak 6 days)

    Mon - 9/24/18. 60 elliptical; 15 StairMaster, 25+10 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 21/24.

    Tues - 9/25/18. shoulders; triceps; abs, 25+10 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 22/25. 8 exercises / 40 sets / 400 reps. Abs: 1 exercise / 5 sets / 200 reps (cable crunches).

Weds - 9/26/18. 60 elliptical; 15 stationary bike, 20 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 23/26. I went to the rheumatologist yesterday for my normal checkup, I mentioned that I went to a podiatrist about the pain in my right heel, and the diagnosis was bone spur on my heel. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory that I started taking today (was surprised the podiatrist didn't prescribe anything). Yesterday it rained hard most of the day, and I want to reach 12,000 steps each day, and since I didn't do any cardio at the gym, I walked and walked around a mall yesterday. I didn't buy anything, but I was tempted to buy a Chic-Fil-A sandwich or two (but didn't). Tomorrow I plan on training back and abs.

Tues nutrition: (forgot to bring it with me).

Thurs - 9/27/18. rest day. m-t-d workouts: 23/27. I woke up, and decided to take a rest day. But I did walk to the bus stop (roughly 1,200 steps each way). :bored: I was not paying attention to the steps yesterday, if I had known I was so close to 12,000, I would have walked more. Today I will need to walk at lunchtime. Today in this office, is the day they celebrate birthday's that fall into this month. My plan is to skip eating the cake. I am trying to cut down on sugar. I want to get the carbs to under 300 grams a day consistently. Tomorrow I hope to train legs.

Fri - 9/28/18. leg training; 20 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 24/28. 8 exercises / 42 sets / 530 reps. I failed to reach 12,000 steps yesterday. After I got off the bus last night, I had about 8,600 steps. My intention was to keep walking until I reached 12,000 steps before I went home, but soon after I got off the bus, it started to rain, so instead I went directly home. Yesterday, as I mentioned yesterday, in this office they had a birthday cake. My intention was not to have any. Unfortunately, I did eat a piece. It was an ice cream cake (a pretty big piece). Oddly, I don't even like ice cream, or ice cream cakes, but that little detail did not stop me.:) I estimated at 500 calories. It is not in the below numbers, since I wrote my nutrition journal already for yesterday, so it will be in today's journal. But since I didn't workout yesterday, I didn't eat the after workout Larabar, so that saved 230 calories, so the net extra was 270 calories. Happy Friday.

    Sat - 9/29/18. chest; ab training; 25+10 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 25/29. 10 exercises / 50 sets / 700 reps. Abs: 3 exercises / 7 sets / 565 reps.

Sun - 9/30/18. back; ab training; 30 minutes elliptical; 30 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 26/30. 8 exercises / 45 sets / 635 reps. Abs: 1 exercise / 3 sets / 255 reps. Good workouts yesterday and today, today being the better of the two. The last 2 weeks or so, my deep sleep has increased to more than 1/2 most days. Prior to that, it was mostly light sleep. I haven't done anything differently, except that all summer I slept with an oscillating fan on all night for circulation of the air (I hate stale air). I have stopped now that the weather got cooler. The fan made some noise, but to me it wasn't noticeable, but maybe the noise from the fan kept me in light sleep. I was watching a youtube clip. I think it was done by a pastor, he ate 2 bananas, and checked his glucose level before he ate them, and an hour after he ate them. His glucose level went up substantially an hour after eating the bananas (in the mid 200's). The next day, he ate 2 candy bars, and his blood sugar went up, but less than the bananas. I guess youtube thought I was interested in this type of video, they suggested a similar video. This guy, his blood glucose level was 78 at the start, he ate 13 bananas:barf:, an hour later, he checked the glucose level, and it was 98. I brought up this, to show everything you read (or see) on the topic of nutrition is so contradictory. :ohnoes: Many people will tell you that eating McDonalds food will slowly kill you. I just saw a documentary about Warren Buffet. He is in his mid 80's, he said he eats an Egg McMuffin for breakfast most days (for years and years).

October challenge: I am not buying anything in October (except gasoline). My credit cards and myself can use the break from shopping.

Regarding the glucose readings, the person who ate 2 bananas and shot over 200 is either pre-diabetic or diabetec (type 2). The one that had no response to 13 bananas is normal. That difference between the two peoples response in blood sugar is really what defines type 2 diabetes.

I agree, but I don't think even a healthy person that their glucose level would go up only increase 20 points after eating 13 bananas.

Mon - 10/01/18. 60 min elliptical; 20 StairMaster; 20 min stationary bike; 20+10+5 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 1/1. I am off from work today & tomorrow. From Labor Day through tomorrow, I have been off 9 days from work for holidays (Labor day & 8 days for Jewish holiday's).:) It is going to be hard going back to working 5 days a week, which I haven't done since August. Tomorrow I am going to try running again.

Edit: I have to add I am going to get a hair cut - today or tomorrow. Had this challenge not been a last minute idea, I would have gotten it cut last week. I would wait until November, but my hair is long already, and I look unkempt, and I can't wait a month to get it cut.

Abs: 1 exercise / 5 sets / 225 reps (cable crunches). I did a test, I left the oscillating fan on when I slept last night, and it didn't seem to affect the deep sleep (there goes that theory). I had a diabetes scare the last 2 days. I had an unquenchable thirst the last 2 days, dry lips, and I had to pee 25-30 times each day. I googled the symptoms, and they pointed to diabetes. I was thinking, why would this suddenly happen out of the blue. Each year, they check my A1C level, and glucose level, and it is always normal. What is different the last few days. Then I remembered I started taking the anti-inflammatory a few days ago. I looked up the medication on the internet, possible side effects: frequent urination.:) That was a relief, I stopped taking the drug today, and already I am almost back to normal. Decided not to run today, maybe tomorrow. If not running tomorrow, some other type of cardio. I stopped listing the day / week / month running miles above, since I am no longer a runner.

Curious, what's your work around when it comes to perishable items such as fresh fruit and veggies?

    Was wondering the same.

    Also, 13 bananas....ew! Isn't potassium poisoning a thing?

    Jaer
likes bananas...but only like 1 a day. Eating multiple 'naners in a single sitting would likely result in...badness.

I have blueberry Pop Tarts (that takes care of the fruit). :) I have fresh fruit for another week or so. Then I am going to eat dried fruit the rest of the month. I am only going to eat frozen vegetables instead of fresh. Before the month started, I bought eggs, and organic milk. The expiration date on the organic milk is 11/29. That is one thing I will never understand, when you buy conventional milk, the expiration date is usually about 10 days or so, yet organic milk, it is so much longer. You would think it would be the opposite.

Below is the link to the youtube video. I saw another video, a guy eats 30 bananas a day. So it probably is not dangerous from a potassium poisoning thing to eat so many bananas.

    Steps yesterday: 13,174 (goal 12,500).

Sleep: Weds / Thurs night: 5.29 (2.10 deep, 3.19 light)

Thurs - 10/04/18. rest day. m-t-d workouts: 3/4. I once mentioned before that the heater in my house broke in Mid April, I finally called the repairman who is coming tomorrow. I don't think it is that serious, since the furnace works, I think it the pump. Regardless, I would like to get it fixed before the cold weather starts. I actually would like to buy a new furnace, since this was there when I bought the house, furnaces are now much more efficient, and I don't like the stress of having to worry about the heater breaking in the winter, and having the pipes freeze. But if this is a simple fix, I will do that, and get a new furnace at a later date. One good thing about not having hot water (besides low utility bill), is that it helps get me to the gym almost daily, since I don't want to take a cold shower at home. In this heating system, the hot water is integrated into the heating system, so if the furnace doesn't work, there is no hot water. Tomorrow - leg training.

Interesting way to cut out buying stuff.

I toyed around with the idea of doing a "zombie survival" challenge kind of thing, during I would restrict my food to canned good only, except I could "earn" more/better food by doing workouts, so like every mile I ran would be like a scavenging run that "found" me more supplies and other excises could represent some other foraging or harvesting, this upgrading from canned goods to fresh good.

I had more specifics. Never actually did it.

    Jaer
liked the game of it, but his wife looked at him like he was crazy when he brought it up.

Interesting experiment to go a month without buying anything. My wife and I probably have enough meat in the freezer and condiments / sauces for a month but would run out of vegetables after a week or so.

Good workout today. Heater is fixed. :) I have used him before, he does good work. He calls me when I am at work, first he tells he checked the heater and pump, and sees nothing is wrong. I tell him last time I used the heater, the furnace worked, but there was no heat. He checks again, and calls me, and tells me it needs a new switch, and needs to be bleed. He said he also said he could install a new pump (he estimates $525 for the pump). I tell him only do the switch and bleed it, and if the pump breaks later, I will replace it then. Why would I replace it now if it is working? I don't know what he charged for the switch and to bleed the system. I told him to leave the bill in the mail box, he said he would mail it. Last time he did work, he told me if I pay by check or cash, he wouldn't charge sales tax. When he said that, though I appreciate not paying the tax, makes me feel like he is dishonest. If he dishonest on the taxes, then why wouldn't he be dishonest about what he repairs? Tomorrow back training, and more cardio.

I hate to sound like a hoarder, but I could easily go 3 months or more, but would run out of frozen vegetables and fruit after about a month.

I decided to start running again today. I think it is important to get my heart rate high (at least 130) a few times a week, the elliptical & stairmaster weren't doing that. I am so out of shape from not running for 2 months, that my heart rate was in the mid 140's most of the run today, and I was only running slight faster than 11 minutes per mile. My right foot feels no worse than it normally does after today's run. I have officially given up intermittent fasting that I have been doing for over a year M-F. This diabetes scare that I had made me rethink that. I don't know how healthy it is to all of a sudden eat almost my full calories for the day squished into 1 hour at night, which usually is 300-400 grams of carbs, that probably is doing havoc with my insulin. I am slowly going to get carbs down to 200 grams per day. Edit: In fact today, I ordered a glucose monitor and test strips from Amazon. The brand is Prodigy, it came with 100 test strips, and 100 lancets. It was less than I thought it would be, $9.99 (39.99 less $30 gift card I received for completing an online survey for Psoriatic Arthritis). To be honest, pricking my finger for blood scares me (a lot), but I guess I can get used to it. Hopefully my blood glucose level is normal, so I won't need to be taking the blood too often.

My Garmin watch seems to randomly give me messages about my steps. It out of the blue told me that Saturday is my day of the week I have the least steps. To prove it wrong :), yesterday I was on track to have about 8,000 steps. That message got me to walk around my neighborhood until I reached 12,500. Tomorrow I plan to train shoulders, and run.

workout streak: 4 days (prior streak 6 days)

Mon - 10/08/18. 35 treadmill; 30 elliptical, sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 7/8. Felt good running, but even though I was running at about the same speed as the day before, heart rate got up to the mid 160's (maybe because I ran longer). I am still having symptoms that align with some of the symptoms of diabetes. I have an endless thirst (and dry mouth), and I have to pee much more, but not as much as the first day when it was 25-30 times per day. I am not going to the doctor, until I receive my glucose meter, and start doing testing, and see if there is a problem before I see the doctor. The last thing I want to be put on is another medication. Two years ago, I was taking no medications, another prescription would be my third.:( I don't have all of the symptoms, such as sudden weight loss, I am not unusually hungry, I don't feel unusually tired, don't have blurred vision or headaches. But my mom had diabetes, and I saw firsthand what it did to her health. Towards the end of her life, she had to have kidney dialysis, and had to have a toe amputated. All due to complications from diabetes. So far, none of my siblings have it, I would be the first. Tomorrow I hope to train shoulders.

Weds - 10/10/18. 35 treadmill, 30 elliptical, sauna: 20 minutes. I woke up so tired, didn't think I was going to run. But once I started, it was okay. Tomorrow either a rest day, or back training. I ordered the glucose meter on Sunday, I received it yesterday. I got home at after 8:00 pm, so I had no time to look at it. Hope to start testing on Saturday.

Thurs - 10/11/18. back training, sauna: 20 minutes. m-t-d workouts: 10/11. 6 exercises / 36 sets / 487 reps. I woke up debating with myself if I should take a rest day. Taking a rest day means about 90 extra minutes in bed, but no LaraBar after working out, and no sauna. Since the extra 90 minutes in bed goes by in what feels like 5 minutes, I opted for working out. Woke up tired, but had a fairly good workout. When I was doing the intermittent fasting, I was not hungry at all until I got home from work, then I was starving.:) No longer intermittent fasting, I started having nuts when I get to work, and now I am very hungry when I get to work before eating the nuts. Same for lunch, and the MuscleTech protein bar that I have about 3:30 pm (but now not starving when I get home from work). I am toying with the idea of fasting on Friday's (except for after workout LaraBar). Sounds like a good idea now, tomorrow I might feel different when I actually have to fast. Today it is going to rain hard according to the forecasts, so probably I won't be walking during lunch time, if I want to reach the 12,500 minimum steps for the day, it will probably be through walking in the mall after work:(. Tomorrow I hope to train legs.
