Tues - 6/27/17. arms; abs, 30 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 27/27. Good workout today. The last rest day I took was on 5/15/17, I am on a streak, and I can't stop.:ohnoes: In that Whole Foods Diet Book that I read recently, there was a good quote from Paul McCartney "if slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian". Tomorrow I hope to train shoulders / abs.

    Thurs - 6/29/17. 90 minutes treadmill, 30+15 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 29/29.

Friday - 6/30/17. leg; ab training. m-t-d workouts: 30/30. Can't believe the month is over. Good month for working out, not as good for nutrition. Felt good running yesterday, and more importantly, recovery has been very good. I didn't feel drained the rest of the day after running (like usual) the last 2 times. Calories weren't too bad, about 3,250 daily for the month, and for the y-t-d approximately 3,200. But the quality of the food wasn't too good, too many processed carbs. Carbs are hard to control in the summer, since that is peak summer fruit season. This week the cherries from Washington are coming in great , and blueberry season is just starting, plus watermelon. Those fruits, plus the banana & 2 potatoes that I eat daily (for potassium to control blood pressure), equal a lot of carbs. Hope to continue to eat the fruit, but limit processed carbs, and cut out bread (for the balance of the summer).

Sat - 7/1/17. back; ab training, 30+20 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 1/1. When I was getting ready to go to the gym today, I can't find my running shoes. I thought I might have left them at the gym the day before, but they weren't where I would have left them, and they weren't in the lost & found. Hard to believe anyone would want a pair of smelly size 13 Asics running shoes near the end of their running life. But maybe they are at home, since I didn't look to hard (I assumed I left them in the gym when I couldn't locate them where they normally should be). Coincidentally, I was just thinking that it probably is almost time to change to a new pair. Tomorrow I hope to change chest, abs.

    Tuesday running / walking: 9.56; w-t-d: 9.56; m-t-d: 9.56

    Sun - 7/2/17. chest; ab training, 30+20 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 2/2.

    Mon - 7/3/17. arms, 30 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 3/3.

    Tues - 7/4/17. 100 minutes treadmill, 30+20 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 4/4.

Weds - 7/5/17. shoulders; triceps, abs, 30 minutes sauna. m-t-d workouts: 5/5. I thought for sure my running shoes would turn up at the lost and found at the gym (they weren't in my house). But I checked 3 times, and they are gone. I starting running in my new running shoes, Asics Gels, and they felt fine. It is a good time to start a new pair of running shoes, since it was the start of the month, and the start of the 2nd half of the year, it will be easy to keep track of the mileage. I probably will wear these running shoes for the NYC marathon. Everyday this last 4 days, I ate more than the day before.:( Eating fruit stokes my appetite, it would be a good idea to limit fruit in my diet. But no day did I go lose total control, and eat everything in sight (not that I didn't want to). At least that is something. I will get back on track starting today. Tomorrow I hope to run again.

Thank you. But I am glad it pushed me to start running in a new pair of running shoes, since the lost pair was at the end of their running life anyway.

Sat - 7/8/17. back training, 30+15 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 8/8. Woke up again with pain in my right knee. I hope I can train legs tomorrow, I am definitely not running. Walking around after I get of bed, it feels fine. Tomorrow looks to be another disappointing weigh in, judging by the scale at the gym today. As I mentioned earlier, I am going to scale back on fruit, since I blame that for lack of weight loss (fruit stokes my appetite). Today will be the last of the watermelon, and all I have left are cherries, blueberries and bananas.

Mon - 7/10/17. arm, ab training, 20 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 10/10. Sunday I again woke up with pain in my right knee, but when I was leg training on Sunday, it felt fine. No issue last night or this morning, but I decided to wait another day before I start running again, which I plan to do tomorrow. I see this guy at the gym who I haven't seen in a few months, he said to me, I see you are still carrying around that book (training journal) with you. Which surprised me, for it is surprising what people notice about you. I thought most people carry around a training book, but after he said that, I looked at other people, and the ones using a journal were few and far between. Maybe they use their phones, or don't use a journal, but I find it helpful to check back to the prior workout, to see how I compared.

Hope the knee issue resolves quickly. Did it start when you switched to the new shoes?

I was thinking the same thing, it did start with the change of the running shoes. But the shoes feel good. But if I start having problems again, I will try a different pair of shoes. Thank you.

Tues - 7/11/17. 70 minutes treadmill, 30 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 11/11. I was planning on walking today, but my knee felt fine, so after a few minutes of walking, I ran the rest. I felt good running today. Happy Amazon Prime Day. Actually, I don't have Amazon Prime, or buy much from Amazon. But if anyone does plan on buying anything, they should click the link from this site, so that John Stone can get a few nickels towards paying for the costs of running this website. I was watching American Ninja Warrior last night. I didn't get to watch the whole thing, since for me, !0:00 pm is too late (my eyes are closing towards the end) - don't have DVR. I am always impressed by the strength and skill of the participants. What I find that is amazing, is that many are smiling as they go through the course, they are so at ease.

Nice to read that you felt good running today.

FYI, today is the first day you can decide your baggage option for NYC.

Thank you. Yes I got that email. I don't take baggage, so I opt for that option. I also got an email that the streakers (ran 15+ NYC marathons) can start as a group in Wave #1 (back of the first coral), if your best pace is 7:18 per mile or faster, which leaves me out.:)

Weds - 7/12/17. shoulders; triceps; abs, 30 sauna. m-t-d workouts: 12/12. I was reading that Tom Brady is coming out with a book in Sept, a motivation / fitness / nutrition book. In the article about the book, it said he has never eaten a strawberry, or tried a cup of coffee. I wonder what he has against strawberries. I can see not having coffee, if you are anti-caffeine. In the article, it mentioned he already has a nutrition manual out, that costs $200.00. It is a loose leaf binder that contains 89 recipes, and now and then they mail you additional recipes.

It's a well known fact that strawberries.........Okay, I have no idea why he has an aversion to them. :)

Regarding NYC, the first time I ran NYC I opted for the bag option, never brought one to the start, and was freezing after the race before I met wifey. I made a different decision yesterday and am keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to be a the starting line.

I read some people think strawberries cause inflammation. Also, if they are not organic, they contain the most or almost the most of insecticides than any fruit (from what I read). Don't know if those are his reasons though.

If you give up on the baggage, when you finish the race, they give you a pancho (not the mylar type - but you get that also) that is supposed to keep you warm. It doesn't keep you that warm, and is a waste of their money and of material, since when are you ever going to wear this pancho ever again?

I didn't know that about strawberries. Thanks for the info.

You're a veteran NYC Marathon runner so I'm sure you're right about the quality and utility of the product, but anything would have been better than what I experienced after my only race. That I wasn't able to get a poncho is totally on me, but if I can somehow manage to get into marathon shape for November I won't be bringing a bag to the staging area and would benefit much more by getting the poncho at the end.

Don't know if that is accurate information about the strawberries. Do some research, before you stop eating them (if that was your plan). :)

The poncho seems like a good idea, but you will get to judge for yourself in November. I don't shed as much clothing as most runners during the race. Some run the race with no shirt. By the end of the race, I still have on a hat, and gloves. Last year I ran in a long sleeve compression type shirt the whole race. So I wasn't cold at the end. I never wear tights though, regardless of the weather. I hate tights, very uncomfortable (imho).

I'm like you, for both Philly Marathons I finished wearing long sleeves and long pants. I would have been cold in short sleeves and or shorts.
