    Me too.

I've been noticing some progress from real strict vertical lat pull-downs to the the base of the pecs -- not that that is specifically targeting them, but it seems to be improving that whole area. I'd been mostly rowing for a while, so it makes sense.

What's your current back routine looking like, John? :read:

Thanks bro, that means a lot to me, especially coming from you. :)

It's definitely the first thing I see.

    :flex:

I've been doing a lot of both of those, too. In fact I was doing low rows and narrow (triangle attachment) pull downs up until last night, which is when I changed my back routine around.

Pretty mundane stuff compared to your Oly-fests. :D FWIW, here's what I did last night.

    BACK
3x5 Heavy deads (with 5 warm-up/acclimation sets) (2 mins rest)
3x12 wide grip lat pulldowns (1 min rest)
3x16 Bent over DB rows (1 min rest)

    BICEPS
3x12 Barbell curls (1 min rest)
2x16 DB hammer curls (30 seconds rest)

It was actually a really solid workout. :tucool:

I was gonna complain about the lack of art photography with the new camera but I guess that body is a work of art, innit?

    Hi all. :)

Hey John, just a quick question re: Deads

I noticed you're doing 5rep sets. Is that a typical rep range with your deads or is it different depending on what phase you are in?

    BTW, you're looking good!

It varies depending on my goals. Right now while I'm cutting the first exercise is always a big compound move, and done using very heavy weight with low (5-7) reps. This first exercise is specifically designed to help increase/maintain my strength.

More information can be found on my training page.

John, what are your feelings in regards to deadlifts done with barbells compared to dumbbells? do you get a different result? also, do you notice your grip failing with really heavy weights?

I've never done DB deadlifts. I don't own dumbbells that are anywhere even close to heavy enough for a challenging deadlift.

I use lifting straps when I go heavy.

After just viewing the comparison back shots on the update page, your back thickeness is amazing! Two completely different looking backs. Erectors and even your rear delts are fantastic. A perfect object lesson as to the effectiveness of deadlifts. And I also agree with your assessment with squats and deads....for my money the deadlift is far more taxing and can produce more anabolism than squats. Although I'd never stop squatting ;)

    Thanks, Mastover!

With regards to my shoulders, I have definitely made big improvements with my rear delts, so any idea why they look fairly symmetrical (as compared to the medial and anterior heads) when I hit a rear double-bi, but comparatively weak looking from the front while I'm flexing? Do you think they just need to be brought up even more, or are my genetics forcing this on me?

Well since you've gone on record numerous times in the past expressing your intentions of never competing in a bodybuilding show, I think it's safe to tell you that your posing needs a lot more work than your physique. lol

Question for mastover (although John may be able to answer as well):

What's the rationale for the change in creatine supplementation this week?

As we're closing in on my goal, Mastover is eliminating anything that may potentially cause bloat/water retention.

Correct me if I've assumed incorrectly, Mastover. :)

I had assumed this as well, as I know SC advocates not taking Creatine on SGX for the same reason. I was more curious about the "leg day only" regimen.

    Sorry for not being clearer.

(and I was trying so hard not to do my "British thing where I say "I'll just ease into this conversation" instead of just getting to the point" )

The progress I've made with my delts is starting to show pretty well now that I've reduced my body fat enough to start etching in some nice cuts. I still have plenty of room for improvement, but I'm pleased with the improvements I've made this year. Even though I'm smaller now than I was a few months ago, I think the muscle separation I'm starting to see makes me look more muscular.

My overall vascularity is starting to improve, too.

    John,
What do you think has been the reason your delts have developed so well lately. I know you wrote "I'll focus more on my delts and lats" but I never really got what you did specifically. I always imagined you worked every part of your body with vigorous effort.
    Thanks.
