Been training like a madman as of late. I feel like I am now really close to my previous strength levels. This afternoon I was able to hit a fairly strict set of 20 reps at 270 on the Bench Press. They weren't paused reps, but I definitely wasn't bouncing the bar off my chest either. Followed that up with Bent Rows at 315 for a set of 10 reps. The rows weren't all that strict, but they still came up pretty decent. Did a bunch of other stuff, but these were the highlights. Lower back only seems to bother me when I do heavy-ish GM's.......so I've been making it a point to do those slower and with less weight.

Competed in King Kong of Grip contest this past weekend. Haven't competed in anything for a couple of years, so this was a great way to knock the rust off. Also brought my 12 year old son along and he got to compete too! I didn't push too hard for fear of an injury, but ended up finishing 5th out of 22 in the 105kg weight class, and 32nd out of 149 in the overall standings. I can definitely live with those results after such a long layoff. Looking forward to better results at the next contest. My son finished 148th out of 149, which is very decent considering he's a good 40 - 50 pounds lighter than the other competitors. He knew he was facing an uphill battle, but his goal was to not finish in last place, and he achieved that goal!

Congrats on competing and doing well and that's fantastic that your son took on such a large challenge.

Thanks everyone! It was a very enjoyable weekend.

Took the past couple days off from workouts, but will get back at it today.

Still grinding away. Was planning to compete in TN in January, but I've been battling a sprained left ring finger for over a month now, and it has been limiting the amount of weight I can use and also the amount of volume I can handle. Every training session seems to irritate it, but I refuse to stop lifting due to something so minor. Going to skip the contest in TN and hopefully catch some other venue later on this winter.

I'm thinking I'll just keep this journal rolling for 2017, rather than starting a new one. Been fighting a nasty head/chest cold this week, so my workouts have been short and sweet. Hoping to post here a little bit more consistently this year. BW was 234 this morning.......my number one goal for 2017 is to get down to 225 and maintain that weight all year. I would love to be able to go to contests this year and compete in the 105kg class and not have to worry about cutting any weight, and I would really love it if I could actually eat breakfast before weigh-ins and still make weight!

Hope you feel better soon. I'm not sure where you live but both the Philadelphia area and the San Francisco area are suffering from a nasty cold that starts in the head and finishes in the chest

I'm actually just starting to feel back to normal within the past day or two. This was one nasty cold bug.

Been doing mainly abbreviated workouts for the past few weeks, nothing spectacular to report. Hopefully I can get back to some meaningful workouts starting next Monday. It feels great not to be coughing constantly!

Thank you! Yes, I'm planning to compete in a bench press contest in March and possibly U.S. Grip Nationals in June. All depends on if I can remain injury free........

Had a pretty decent week of workouts. Strength took a slight dip with the lengthy head/chest cold I was fighting, but by next week I'm planning to be back to where I was and then start building off of that. Bench press contest coming up in less than two months, so that will be my main training focus for the present.
