Haven't kept an online training journal in several years, but decided it would be a good thing for accountability purposes.........so I figured I'd go back to the same place where I kept my very first public journal.

2015 was probably the worst year I've ever had when it comes to workouts and fitness. Nagging lower back and knee issues have limited my gym time. 2015 was also the first year out of the last 30 where I didn't even consider training for some type of strength related contest. It's been a bit depressing, but at the same time, it's also been somewhat of a wakeup call. I've realized that I'm not as young as I used to be, my recovery is not the same as it once was, and I've beaten my body up with too much heavy volume work over the years.

At the moment, my body is feeling pretty decent, so we'll see what 2016 brings. My #1 goal for the year is to stay injury/pain free. My #2 goal for 2016 is to compete in at least one PL meet and one grip contest. It will probably take a miracle to make this all happen, but I'm feeling pretty good about it.

2015 was not a good year for me health wise either so I can empathize with your frustration.

Did you get to many Packer games this season?

Hopefully this year we can both get back into the groove of staying healthy and making some serious gains. Last year I felt like it was one injury after another, but this year I'm vowing to be smarter and also more creative with my training.

Made it to several games this year. Took my older son and my dad to the Packers vs. Rams game, which was a great time. The other highlight of the season for me was going to the Bears game on Thanksgiving night. It was cold and rainy, but they retired Favre's number that game and everybody there got to witness Starr and Favre on the field together for quite possibly the last time. I was able to capture some pretty decent pictures. I also had the pleasure of meeting Ron Wolf in the stands......so all in all, it was a pretty memorable evening.

Thank you, sir. I'm going to do my best to keep up with this new journal.

    1/15/16

    Hip Belt Squat
    1 arm DL
Mini Inch DB - timed holds
    Sledge Levering

High intensity, low volume workout. Lower back felt okay after, but certainly not perfect.

    Injury avoidance for the win!

Now that you mention it I remember seeing the FB posted pictures of when you went to the Turkey Day game. Definitely historic!

Confucius said (or it might have been Henry Ford... the interwebs aren't clear on it):

"Man who believes he can and man who believes he can't are both usually right."

    Welcome back! :moon:

Todd, what's the powerball you've mentioned a couple of times?

Paul, it's kind of a gimmick type item, but I've been using one for the last couple of months and I feel it's great for recovery/prehab work. Mainly focuses on the lower arms, but I've been playing around with different angles and managed to find ways to hit the upper arms with it too. The manufacturer claims it can help build hand strength, but I'm skeptical about that. It will pump lots of blood into your arms, though. I'm at the point now where I'm using mine everyday except for the days I directly hit some type of grip training. I have several of these as they come in many different variations, but the link below shows the one that's my favorite due to it's reasonable price and great features. I would highly recommend these.

Thanks for the info. Before I buy any new grip equipment I need to start using my CoC grippers that you recommended years ago. Even though they're in arm's reach when I'm at my desk I haven't touched them in forever. :blank:
