    Session 67:

    A Press 37kg/81.4lbs
    x 8, 8, 8, 12

    B Deadlift 97.5kg/214.5lbs
    x 12

    C1 Chin-up x
    9, 7, 7, 7

    C2 Suitcase Carry
    6 circuits 20kg x 3

E Side Plank x 60 seconds each side

    15 minute run to finish.

Good solid workout. Left work earlier than my girlfriend so I knew I had plenty of time at the gym. Far, far cooler as well so much more comfortable than previous weeks. Upped the weight or reps slightly for everything except the side plank and got a good run at the end.

    Scale weight this morning 185.2lbs @ 25%bf.

Glad your weather broke; my town is currently (at 4 PM) 94F/34C with a head index about 4F/2C higher. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse. :(

    Session 68: (Wednesday 31/07/2019)

    A Squat 105
    kg/231lbs x 8,8,8,8

    B1 Bench Press 65
    kg/137.5lbs x 8,7,7,6,4

    B2 Back Extension (unweighted) x 8, 8 (2.5kg) x 8, 8

    C1 Dips x 11, 11, 11, 14

    C2 Modified Sprinters Lunge - unweighted x 8, 20kg x 8

Got to the gym earlier than my girlfriend. Should have got even more done but she didn't let me know she'd arrived at the gym so I'd slowed down thinking that I'd been in the gym for an hour and she hadn't arrived. She'd got there 20 minutes after me. I had expected to have a run but when I went over to the treadmills she was there and was ready to leave.

A good session though. Bench is tough. Could really feel it in my shoulders yesterday. Had intended to weight the back extension but forgot for the first two sets. Sets of dips were spread out enough to hit lots of reps.

    Scale Weight 31/07/19 - 184.8lbs @ 24.8% bf
    Scale Weight today - 184.8lbs @ 24.6% bf

No gym today. Will be heading to a Wedding reception this evening. It's not very far away but it's far easier to drive and stay overnight in a hotel. We'll have to see how the scale is affected on Sunday as there is a Toby Carvery next door to the hotel that does an all-you-can-eat breakfast.

We'll then visit the Imperial War Museum at Duxford IWM Duxford as it's only a further 30 minute drive to get there.

Enjoy the weekend and that museum looks like a fine place to spend time.

    A good three day weekend:

Plenty of time on Friday to get a few things done in the morning and take a nice, relatively scenic drive to Harlow, Essex.

Got checked in to the hotel and went to the Carvery for a late lunch/early dinner at around 3:30pm. Then had a gentle walk around the local park where they had a petting zoo. Not the quietest park as it's very close to the London Stansted flight path but we quite like aircraft so didn't mind the sight/sound of the aircraft flying out of Stansted, unfortunately they're nearly all Ryanair 737s so not a great deal of variety. Plenty of time then to get ready and head to the Wedding reception.

Not a bad evening, large enough venue that kids were not running around you. Slightly strange occurrence as at about 10pm with the Bride still in her wedding dress, the groom got changed, not into casual wear but into proper slob about in-front of the TV clothes. Looked a bit jarring next to the bride.

Sunday all-you-can-eat breakfast saw me put away a significant amount of food. I love toast and cutting it out of my diet has certainly helped me shed a significant amount of weight so I could help eating round after round of toast with coffee. Except for a Bakewell Tart later in the day, I didn't eat anything else as I felt absolutely no need to eat dinner.

Spent a good six hours at IWM Duxford. Huge variety of aircraft to see as well as a land warfare exhibition. Good to have a nice easy drive home afterwards too.

    Session 69:

    A Press 38kg/83.6lbs
    x 8, 8, 8, 10

    B Deadlift 102.5kg/225.5lbs
    x 12

    C1 Chin-up x
    9, 7, 7, 6

    C2 Suitcase Carry
    6 circuits 22kg x 1, 20kg x 2

E Side Plank x 60 seconds each side

Continuing to up the weight on exercises. Good lifting on the Press and the Deadlift. Chin-up and Suitcase carries are really taxing the forearms. All feels so much better with the cooler weather.

Scale Weight this morning 183.6lbs @ 24.2% bf. Drinking on Friday and the big breakfast on Saturday doesn't seem to have had a detrimental impact. Six hours of walking around on Saturday afternoon almost certainly helped.

Bit late updating this session. Can't remember much about it except I forgot to up the weight on the Squat until the last set.

    Friday 09/08/2019:

This was supposed to be a gym session. Shortly before finishing work I had a strange visual disturbance (blurred/double vision). Don't know what caused it but it wasn't getting better after about 45 minutes. Had already decided not to go to the gym and decided to get the bus home rather than drive. However, part way to the bus stop I began to experience numbness/tingling in my arms and lips so headed to Accident & Emergency. By the time I got there I, despite an improvement in my vision, I was starting to experience a significant amount of confusion, disorientation and anxiety to the extent that it was suspected that I'd experienced a stroke.

After triage they still were not sure whether I had experienced a stroke or perhaps a migraine. I took some strong painkillers and proceeded to wait approx three hours to be seen. Was reviewed by a doctor, had an ECG, blood tests and a CT scan. Result was nothing conclusive to show I'd had a stroke so thought likely I'd had a severe migraine.

Spent a total of five and a half hours at the hospital, by which time I felt sufficiently recovered to go back to work to collect the car and drive home.

I've taken the following week off from the gym. Was good to have a break, relax the diet slightly and generally have a recovery week.

Had what I'm fairly certain was a migraine in February 2018. Had a pounding headache, sickness and visual disturbance. Got what felt like early symptoms of a migraine a few times over the following fortnight which I preemptively treated with a dose of painkillers and rest.

This was the first time I've experienced numbness/tingling and confusion.

A few updates required. Following a break for a week (post migraine) I've returned to a workout plan based around Starting Strength. I really missed the simplicity of the 3x5 (1x5 for Deadlifts). I also don't enjoy grinding out the extra reps I've been doing on the core lifts in recent weeks especially with the heat we've had recently. I like Squating each workout so that is back, Deadlifts alternate with Back Extension, and I'm still doing the Suitcase Carry. I'm planning to continue this workout for a couple of months, building my strength back to where it was before I injured my back and switched routines. I expect to then give 5/3/1 a try.

Missed a session on Monday. It was a Bank Holiday in the UK and the gym shuts at 5pm. I was laying some new flooring over the weekend and needed a full day on Monday to get things done so skipped the gym. My partner also attended a Wedding on Sunday so had a late night and hadn't slept well and so was happy also to skip the gym.

Tonight's session was curtailed a little. Was late out of work so gym session was delayed. More importantly, my partner is a woman of a certain age, being 11 years my senior, and has regular hot flushes. She finds these unbearable in an already hot gym so didn't want to stay. Rather than her having to get the bus home, I left at the same time and will pop back to the gym tomorrow to finish the session. I'm leaving work a couple of hours earlier tomorrow so will be interested to see how busy or not the gym is mid afternoon. Might also try one or two accessory exercises.

    Session 74 (pt2): Thursday 29/08/19

    D1 Chin-up x 10, 8, 8

    D2 Suitcase Carry
    6 circuits 20kg x 2

Added the shoulder Press as I'd have been in and out of the gym in a very short time otherwise.

My girlfriend didn't go to the gym Friday. She knew she had a busy day at work and we planned to go out last night. I went to work early and consequently left early so that I could fit in a session at the gym and meet her back at work by the time she finished. Good session.

Unfortunately my girlfriend had a pipe (an isolation valve) leak in her loft. The water has managed to leave a damp patch not only on the 1st floor (2nd floor for US readers) ceiling but has found it's way down an internal will to the ground floor hallway and soaked the stairwell wall also. Still managed to go out after I'd popped over to temporarily remedy the situation but I see myself replacing the valve as well as continuing laying flooring in my own house this weekend.

    B Press 45kg/99lbs
    x 5, 5, 5

    D2 Suitcase Carry

Squat is coming back strong. Only 5kg/11lbs off previous pb and felt good. I've had some tightness in my right shoulder for a couple of weeks but doesn't seem to be negatively impacting the Press. Do feel in in the Bench Press though. Deadlift felt good. Has planned to up by 5kg but the 2.5kg plates were nowhere to be found so jumped 10kg which was no problem.

    C2 Decline Dumbell Bench Press 12kg x 5, 18kg x 5,5

Good session. Got there early so plenty of time and not too busy. Squats felt good but I'm aware that I did injure myself Squating earlier in the year, hence the dropping back of weight after the first set. Still got the tightness in the right shoulder at the bottom of the Bench Press motion.
