At some point I lost the motivation to keep posting here, but I've not stopped training! In fact, I competed on Saturday for the first time in 13 months. I went 8 for 9, only missing my third bench press.

    Squat: 222.5kg (490 lbs) - 2.5kg PB
Bench press: 122.5kg (270 lbs) - 2.5kg PB - failed 127.5kg on my third attempt
    Deadlift: 247.5kg (545 lbs) - 20kg PB

    Total: 592.5kg (1,303 lbs, 25kg PB) @ 93.0kg (205 lbs) bodyweight

I thought I had qualified for the English Champs but discovered later that the required QT is 595 not 592.5, which is a little annoying as I chose my third deadlift especially to meet this target, and I'm sure I had at least another 2.5kg in the tank there. Next time!

Nice total! That is very annoying that you were 2.5kg away

With my lack of activity in my journal lately (I'm still training, don't worry!), and with the announcement regarding the closure of JSF, I guess this will be my last post in the JSF forums.

I'm amazed to think that I've been a member here for almost 14 years. When I first joined, I was in the process of losing weight and had recently started lifting weights. I learned a lot from being a member of these forums, from reading John's daily updates, and from finding sites like T-Nation and EliteFTS from posts on here, and it's no exaggeration to say that the community here is what made me feel truly engaged with lifting and eventually pushed me towards powerlifting. I also discovered SwoleCat (RIP) and the SGX program through this forum, which led me to my first "proper cut" and learning about better nutrition in early 2007. The confidence I gained throughout the first half of that year made a drastic difference to me as a person, and that culminated in me meeting my wife later that year. I don't think my life would have been the same without JSF!

I'd like to say thanks to all of the people who have read and commented on my journals over the year, especially those who have offered words of encouragement or advice. I also have to say thanks to @John Stone himself for providing the platform for this community. John, I hope you realise just how powerful a force for good JSF has been for so many people over the past 15 years or so. I don't want to turn into a fanboy, but I'd be lying if I said that following your own progress wasn't an amazing inspiration for me; you were always a role model, and a yardstick against which I would always measure myself. Thank you John, and enjoy your "JSF retirement"!

If anyone wants to stay in touch, send me a PM and I'll share my social media profiles/email addresses as necessary.

    Toodles!
    Gareth

Cheers, Gaz! Thanks for everything you did for JSF, and all the good times. It was awesome seeing your incredible progress over the years. Best wishes and continued success!
