    I don't really do those, and when I do they are for my own benefit. I am 5'8", 94-95kg, around 25% bodyfat, so you'll have to use your imagination lol

    Wednesday 11th July

    A Bench press

    Coach gave me heavy singles :love:

    5 x 80kg
    3 x 85
    1 x 95
    1 x 105
    1 x 112.5
    1 x 120 (PB)

    Butt came up off the bench a tiny bit on the 120 so it would likely have been a 'no lift' on the platform, but it was a strong press, waaaay better than the 117.5 I did in the gym in January. Decent bench PB should be incoming in September!

    B 1-board press
    4 x 3 x 95kg
    Left elbow starting to feel a bit irritable now

    C Larsen press
    2 x 10 x 80kg
    1 x 9 x 80kg (failed 10th)
    The second set was tough and I had an inkling I might not be able to complete the last set, so I took the collars off before the last one. The 9th rep was basically triceps-death but I decided to try for a 10th anyway and missed near lockout. Unfortunately a lady in the gym noticed I had failed and started to come over to help me just as I started to tip the bar towards her side - fortunately she saw what was happening and got her toes out of the way of the cascade of plates just in time!

    A qualified yes. My bench press has improved immeasurably since my January competition and pretty much every session is good and shows progress. Squats and deadlifts are a little bit more inconsistent: on a good day I feel like I've progressed, but I also have less good days/weeks where I feel a bit like I haven't really come on since February. I've set rep PBs on all three lifts plenty of times in the last six months though, so I just need to trust that my coach will get the taper/peaking phase right and that will help make sure I'll have a good day on meet day.

    A Deadlift

    My coach told me to do 4 singles from 192.5kg and to "impress him". So...

    Hook grip unless stated
    5 x 160kg (straps)
    1 x 170kg

    Easy so far

    1 x 215kg
    Solid enough, but my left thumb tore open (and it hadn't fully healed from last week so I was down several layers of skin by this point).

    F x 227.5kg
    I had my mind on the 500lb mark so I loaded it up. Unfortunately the thumb tear sustained on the previous lift did for me, and I couldn't grip tight enough to hold on. I got the bar off the floor OK and had it pretty close to lockout when I had to bail.

    1 x 227.5kg (straps)
    I send videos of all my working sets to my coach via WhatsApp and even though he's in Washington state (i.e. 8 hours behind) he's often online and gives me real-time feedback. I was ready to go to my back-off work after missing the 500lb attempt, but he told me to get my straps out and have another go as the "strength was clearly there". So I did, and I got it - it was probably the hardest deadlift rep I've ever done but I held position through the movement and locked it out (albeit very slowly). So, I'm in the 500lb deadlift club, at last - but the purist part of me is turning its nose up because I used straps :lol:
    I need to take a couple of weeks off hook gripping to let my thumbs heal up properly and then manage them well going into the meet to make sure tearing isn't an issue on the day. I may have to experiment with taping them again - the last time I tried it I found that the tape just slipped off with the bar, but I may have been doing it wrong.

    woo hoo!! as i read that i was like "oh man he totally would of had it without the thumb booboo" so i'm stoked your coach agreed! yay!! 500 club is the business!!!!
