That was pretty sick... In every sense of the word.

I saw a news report on that some time back. No idea what the guys name is, though.

It's hard to believe the guy in the first picture is the same in the last. Amazing transformation.

Yes, but you know what? He gets to live, and I'm pretty sure that means a hell of a lot more to him than some cosmetic problems.

    Those are scars of pride.

How many people would get to his point and just give up? How many would start to lose weight, see those yards of loose skin start to pile up, fear what they'll look like and give up?

Yeah, the pictures of all that skin are pretty gross, but just look at the before and after? That man reclaimed his life by losing what, over 400 pounds?

That's truly a "If he can do it, anyone can" kind of motivator.

Getting that obese could be the result of an eating disorder, and it's great that he managed to lose all that weight and get into the shape he did.

The extra skin is scary to look at, but I'm fairly sure that I read that removal of skin from weight loss goes directly to tissue banks for burn victims, so that's a lot of material to work with! (Looking at the bright side.)

We've discussed Mr. Smith's amazing transformation before; and honestly it still comes down to one word.

    Respect.

Check out the below link for more info. It's a great story. He became best friends with his trainer. His trainer is an amazing person. I hope he does well with his new program.

Respect that he got to 400lbs? I'm supposed to appreciate that he gets back to the weight he should have been at in the first place? No wonder this country is going to a hell and a hand basket when we praise people for doing the bare minimum.

He's got my respect for admitting his problem and then doing something about it, even though it probably seemed insurmountable. My hat's off to him.

No, you're not supposed to do anything.

But some of us are happy when someone else tries to get control over his or her life and be healthy. Sure, he shouldn't have been that obese in the first place, but why harp on it? Why not just be happy for the guy?

I'd rather look at the bright side, look to the future, and be happy if someone is trying to better himself.

Very good and fair point, but I'd still rather focus on the positive. :)

Maybe it's going to hell IN a handbasket.

    But I doubt it.

I don't think that transformation in any way, shape, or form represents the "bare minimum."

And did it healthily, no crazy diet or anything. I respect him just like I respect someone who quits smoking, or stops drinking. People who've never smoked and people who've quit both deserve a bit of respect and admiration, no?

I know I could never recover from being that overweight. I would give up for sure. He's got me beat.
