I have just recently started a weight training program and am wondering when training abs how much others do. I am currently doing 100 air bikes or crunches, 30 leg lifts (i think this is what they are called) and 30 reverse crunches 3 times a week. Is this enough....if others could post their ab workouts I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Mandi

that sounds pretty thorough. how long does your ab routine take?
I haven't heard of "air bikes or crunches"...?

I think 3 times a week is good for abs... any more often might be too much.
I have to admit, abs are the one thing I hate doing; but I don't need to be at the gym to do them, so I try to do them twice a week at home.

I've been taining them once a week just like anyother body part.

I do weighted cable crunches (with 180+ lbs!)
    then weighted normal crunches
then reverse crunches with a weight between my legs.

    I'm determined check my sig!

Now to shed some fat...

I've also been reading more and more that abs need to be treated like any other muscle if you're trying to grow them, they need working once or at most twice a week and then rested, muscles don't grow in the gym, they grow while being rested.

To me it sounds like you're doing too much if anything, and possably at too low weights.

k, I think I will try some weighted crunches also and try twice a week instead of three times....because I am just not feeling like I'm working them.

    Thanks for your input!

Don't forget that your abs are constantly in use, so they're pretty well trained anyway, that means you're not likely to get the ache after a few hours or the next day that you do with a lot of muscles
