Thanks man...I have been crawling towards the prize.
At my current pace, I'll get 295 in August and 305 in October.
I have been adding 10lbs every two months for like 6 months now...

You know, that's not too bad since you've been lifting awhile. If I add 5 pounds in 6-8 weeks, I'm happy. But I feel you. I miss those early days when 5 pounds came in a week. That's why I like to try new exercises every once and while, so I feel like I'm getting newbie gains!

I had hit a huge mental wall on the bench and was hoping by taking a break to work on my incline, push press, etc. I'd avoid hitting a plateau.

If you hit 300 by the fall, I say that's pretty darn good! Best of luck.

Just got 225 so im ready to go for this one. 75lbs is a looong way to go, if i can hit 300 before im 16 i will be set, that gives me 8 months to up my bench by 75 pounds. We will see.

247.5 today at a bodyweight of 190. The number is odd because I just received my Troy heavy duty collars that weigh 1.25 pounds each.

BTW, nice job Rhinosaur, you're making good progress.

Very nice lift! When I was 15, about the only thing I was able to lift was a video game controller

Yeah, when I was 15 and 16 I probably could have benched little more than a broomstick...

    From 07.22.08 workout:

    BB Bench
    45 x 10
    135 x 8
    185 x 5
    225 x 2
    255 x 1
    275 x 1
    300 x 0
    245 x 5
    245 x 3
    225 x 5
    225 x 4

    - I have a true legitimate shot at the 300 in the next 4 weeks or so.
    - I absolutely ripped 275. I know I could double it...maybe even triple.
    - The 300 was really close. What was encouraging was that I hit my stick spot and moved it up another half inch before sticking for a couple seconds and missing...
    - I think I am within 5-7 pounds of it.
    - Next week, I am going to try 275 for a couple/few reps...

    07.28.08 lifts:

    BB Bench
    45 x 15
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    255 x 1
    275 x 3 - Mwahaha...
    245 x 5
    225 x 6
    225 x 5

According to ExRx, my 1RM is only 291...
I guess next week I'll try 295 for a single....

    08.05.08 Lifts:

    BB Bench
    45 x 15
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    275 x 1
    295 x 1 - New PR
    245 x 5
    245 x 4
    225 x 5

    * In all honesty, I don't think I quite have 300. I just got the 295. It was a smooth and steady stroke, but it was tough.
    * May be a few more weeks....won't stop me from trying though! :nope:

Just noticed this club...can I join? I can't currently do 300lbs (can't currently do any bench presses due to a wrist injury - can't even hold the bar!), but I was doing 10x315 earlier this year.

Once I can start lifting again, we'll see how much I lost. I'll probably need to reapply in a few months!

    Well,

I should still be a member of this club but my 1rm was 375 back in March 2008 however I was 265lbs then and am now down to 218. I lost a lot of strength on my bench and overhead presses as they were always my favorite lifts.

11/17/2008 my bench workout was as follows

    225/10
    275/6
    285/3
    265/5

I will hopefully be logging my bench workouts for the remainder of the year and see how high I can get back up to.

Good luck to anyone who is still participating in this challenge.

I will be maxing out my bench press in a few weeks. I will be going for the 300 marker. Last time I maxed was a couple months ago and I barely got 275. However, that was really crazy because a bench press chart said I would only be able to do 250. Right now the one rep max calculators are saying I can do about 270. My prediction for right now = 290. By the end of January I hope to really do 300.

I'll post when I max out.

If you are hitting 285 for a triple and 275 for 6....you are already there...I guarantee it.

Oops, my body weight is now 178-180, not 172-174. I have been gaining around 1 pound a week for the past 2 months (mostly in the legs and back). I'll post progress pics in about a month.

My journey has been great so far. I weighed 142-144 in December 06. I was trying to make the college track team and it was very difficult to get down that low. After I tanked a mile time trial I went back to my comfortable weight of 155-160 and held that for a year and a half until last spring. I started lifting seriously in June and built up to around 166-170 through the summer, still trying to cut weight for running. The past two months I just let running go completely because I got fed up with my old running injuries and focused on gaining strength and mass in the weight room.

After plateauing in running and fighting my body type for years with weight loss, it feels great to lift and see this amazing potential that I never thought existed. After years of failing at my first passion, running, I can succeed in something else. After years of having no talent, I am suddenly empowered with amazing potential.

I know you didn't ask for all of that, but that's what I went through to get where I am now. 300 would mean a lot to me.:bb:

Yeah, a 300 pound bench at a bodyweight of 180 would still be pretty darn impressive. How do you other lifts compare? (deadlift, squat, etc)

Today I deadlifted 275x 6 or 7 on my second set. My grip wasn't strong enough to keep going, but that's the most weight I've ever tried.

I also squatted 215x 9 as my fourth set.

As you can see, I haven't maxed out on either of those lifts yet because I'm still working on perfecting my form... which JSF helps out with.

Most of my other lifts I don't keep track of weight, but instead focus on controlled form and failure on the last set between 8-12 reps.

Thanks for the interest, I'll keep you all updated.
