    And how did that feel?

Count me in for the race to 300, or what not. I'm at about 260-265 right now. Of course, I've set a goal for 300 in a year and a half, so I'm not exactly going to be a speed demon.

Oh, and I'm taking a two month break from flat BB bench, and doing mostly incline instead. So that might not help!

Congrats on hitting 275. That's a very nice lift.

It was heavy enough that it psyched me out a little...if I had been smarter I would have tried 285 instead...

All right! Don't worry, it's not a race or anything...but FWIW, I don't think it will take you hat long to hit 300...

Consider hitting some weighted dips...they will help your bench.

    Thnks man!

Yeah but I'll bet you get it in the next workout or two...just remind yourself, it's only a two-and-a-half per side...;)

You've probably got 305-315 already inside you with some adjustments to technique.

Looks like you're taking a wider than normal grip, which isn't likely to be optimal for someone doing a non-shirted bench, and without a big belly to press off of. Also appears you have your elbows flared out a little too much.

Take a look at these videos for ideas, and practice at a lesser load to get a feel for the difference.

    Ignore the suicidal thumbless grip.

Thank goon, I think once I get my workout in today, I'll sit down and try that out. If it works out, (which I can't imagine why it wouldn't) It will probably help my rep sets too and maybe help me make a solid jump in weight.

And good call on the thumbless grip... after all the videos of accidents that happen suddenly with no warning, you would think that people would take steps to avoid chopping their heads off with a +200lb bar...

Well, that guy has a narrower grip, but he also looks like he is about 5'6" or so, and Bheller is 6'2". I agree with everything else though. Bringing the bar down lower on the chest (sternum area/upper abs) will often force the elbows to be tucked a little more, which in turn will result in more power down the road, and also reduce shoulder/pec injuries.

A couple of other tips: Pull shoulder blades together as hard as you can, squeeze the bar (as if you are trying to crush it), and push with your feet and drive your upper back/traps into the bench. Once you get some of these things down, you'll be amazed at the extra power you can get.

BTW, you are pressing some nice weight, and it won't be long before you are adding a 3rd plate to the bar. :tucool:

    Also...nice depth on your squat.

I'll be sure to work on refining the bench technique... I'm going to get my regular rep squat video taped and throw that up for a form check, but its pretty good from what I can see in the mirror, the max of course was a little shaky on form, but thats just the heavy weight. Thanks for all the advice though.

Hm, this'll take me a while. Right now I do five sets of five with 195 (actually, when I tired today I only got 3 reps on the last set, but when I try next time I'm sure I'll get them all) and my 1RM is, I think, around 245lbs if I'm lucky. So I have a ways to go. I think, if my 1RM keeps going up at the rate it is now, I'll have 300lbs in about 3-4 months.

Got another PR on bench yesterday:

I was curious to see if the higher rep scheme I have been doing for the last month had made me weaker, so I tried max bench...

    BB Bench
    45 x 10
    95 x 10
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    225 x 3
    255 x 1
    285 x 1 - New PR
    225 x 6 x 3sets

    Getting closer.

Damn, congrats man! You'll be there in no time.

I've been slacking horrible on my bench as of late...or as I like to call it, I've been working on other lifts ;)
