Question Counting Calories

Hi,

I stumbled upon this site quite by an accident. It's very inspiring . I've never really been into the whole fitness scenario but would like to start now (better later than ever ) but am overwhelmed by the info/advice that I am getting from people and reading in books/website. I decided to register here and see if i could get some direction:

I am just planning to tone up, lose fat in the abs area

1. Need to know what to eat daily - how much proteins, calories etc (How do you figure out how much calories/protein etc you need to take in and also how do you figure out how many calories are in stuff you eat ...is there a website out there, that can help me count the calories.

2. Once i get the eating thing down, how i do tailor a workout for me. Where can i gather such info.

I am reading this forum daily to keep focused and get insipiration. thanks for all the postings and this website.

Thanks in advance,
-Nilima

[quote=Nilima]Hi,

You cannot decide where you'll lose weight. There's no such thing as spot-reducing. Unless you have a lot of muscle from a former life as a bodybuilder, you need to build muscle before you can tone muscle. DO NOT be afraid of lifting heavy and building muscle. Muscle burns fat, it's more dense than fat, and it's what gives us women our feminine curves. You CANNOT become a she-man without taking steroids, so don't let that myth dissuade you.

1. Need to know what to eat daily - how much proteins, calories etc (How do you figure out how much calories/protein etc you need to take in and also how do you figure out how many calories are in stuff you eat ...is there a website out there, that can help me count the calories.

Most eating plans that have exercisers in mind recommend a 40% protein, 40% carb, 20% healthy fat breakdown. www.fitday.com can help you track what you eat, as can John's spreadsheets.

2. Once i get the eating thing down, how i do tailor a workout for me. Where can i gather such info.

Check out the links I listed in the thread titled "Q's about women" or something like that, in this forum. Too lazy to retype them, sorry.
