Question Why high reps/low weight for abs only?

Everybody seems to agree that working out with low weight and high reps does not make one more 'toned'. So, why does everyone do something like 25 reps x 4 sets for abs? Shouldn't the abs be treated like any other muscle (ie - high weight, low reps)?

well thats puzzling for me also dude...

Even our god Arnold also did the same thing...

But some fitness experts suggest U need not to exceed 15 reps
.. If U can then use more weight...

After all your Abdomen is a on Huge chunk of Muscle (Ofcourse Obliques
are in different direction)

I tried to do crunches with increased weight, but I observed I could not
get full motion or effect... So I switched back to weight less and more
number of crunches per set... I can feel it now :db:

So try both of them.. Decide what works for you....

Thats a good question. A whle ago I put that to a friend of mine whos a personal trainer. He told me that on the one hand your abs are just like any other muscle and would respond better with higher weight and lower reps. But he also said that the abs are conditioned for muscular endurance as they are working a lot of the time to support our spine and for posture etc.

I try to cover all my bases and do crunches (as many as I can do) and use the ab machine and cables and use heavy weight with 6-10 reps.

As Dr Evil said try both methods and go with whatever gives you the best results.

Cheers

Marcus
