My elliptical
I have bought an elliptical just a week ago and have been excersing on it.
The strange thing that occured today while excersing was that it made an screecy sound when I tried to use the pedals. I tried to tight the bolts and such but still no result. When I go off the pedals and try to pedal with my hands; I don't hear any annoying sound.
Does that mean my machine is faulty or ?
Thanks in advance

I have this problem from time to time on my elliptical

I use some WD40 inbetween the joints and it seems that the washers have worn down quickly.
The WD40 solution works well.

You can buy the cheapest elliptical and use nylon washers (anywhere metal is rubbing metal) from your local department store and you will be amazed. Make sure they are nylon and they should last for a really long time. The size of the washers should be thick enough to take out any play from the lack of exact machining. No squeaks and no play so you should get a more solid feel. I did this on my $200 Walmart elliptical and it works great. The machine feels a lot more sturdy now and it feels like one of the more expensive units. It doesn't have alot of fancy programs, but those are bogus even on the more expensive units. All I need is my 10 levels of resistance and I can make my own workout. Good Luck!

How sturdy is this walmart elliptical?
Noticed walmart sells atleast 2 version. One is the one John uses and another.
I live in europe, but the versions I see for sale here all cost alot more than the walmart one. Additionally the reviews I have read leaves alot to be desired.
Just basically want one thats relatively cheap, sturdy and good for HIIT training.
Wonder how much it would cost to get someone to ship me one of these wallmart ones to Norway? hmm

At some time, most of the inexpensive ellipticals (and even some of the expensive ones) start making noise. I have found that Dupont lithium with teflon spray does a good job at getting rid of the noises and lasts a long time. I used to use WD40, but had to re-apply every few days. I have never tried the nylon washers but think I will. I have been using an elliptical now for 6 years and would not be without it.

If you use the nylon washers anywhere there is metal to metal contact, the noise should disappear . They also help to tighten the tolerance levels the cheaper machines have. Mine almost has no play from side to side after tweaking it. On an elliptical you shouldn't have to replace the washers during the life of the machine. After all, car manufactures use nylon bushings (possibly higher quality) that last under extreme condtions for a really long time. Nylon is amazing.
I have the Weslo 710. I think Walmart sells it exclusively, but I could be wrong. Here is the link.
