Default Need Advice

I am 28 years old, 6'4" and 210 pounds.

I want to start a jogging routine before starting a weight training routine. I feel like my endurance is lacking, and I would benefit from doing a couple months of a jogging routine first, before the weight training.

I plan on starting this jogging routine within the next couple of weeks. I have read a post on this site about jogging, and also read a post on another site about jogging. I plan on incorporating both posts into the routine I end up doing. Each of the two posts has a chart along with it which I will try and follow. My goal is to complete this 9 week jogging routine and end up able to jog 5 miles in about 30 minutes without stopping. I will follow the charts, though, and increase my jogging time every week for the 9 weeks until I reach the end goal. The charts tell me to jog 3 days per week. Right now I probably couldn't jog for 5 minutes without stopping, and I'd be completely gassed.

I plan on waking up every morning at 7am and will be going to bed at around 10:30pm. I guess my first question is: when I wake up at 7am, should I eat anything at all before I go out for my 30 minute routine? or should I go out and jog 3 days a week on an empty stomach?

What I have planned for my meal plan for these 9 weeks is as follow: Breakfast of 1 whole egg, a fruit smoothie which includes a scoop of whey protein powder, and a bowl of oatmeal with a sprinkle of cinnimon. Lunch of a boiled chicken breast with a salad and a small portion of brown jasmine rice. Dinner of a can of tuna with a portion of brown jasmine rice mixed with a healthy serving of veggies. For my first and second snack, I'm still unclear.

Saying what I did above, I guess my next two questions are as follows: What should I be having for my two snacks, knowing that I'm doing a 9 week jogging routine? and the next questions is: does the rest of my meal plan sound fine, or is there somthing I should change? and I guess my final question is: after coming back inside from my morning jog 3 days per week, how long should I wait before eating that first meal I mentioned??

I hope this format makes it a bit easier to understand what I'm asking. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I'm still very new at exercising on a regular basis, and just want to make sure I'm doing everything properly before I begin.

That was a tough read, LOL. Had to stop when I couldn't understand, but the one thing I noticed is that you stated that most people here are interested in getting ripped. This is not true. Most guests and members here are into improving their health, or sports performance. If you can give us a clearer picture regarding your diet and training, we can offer better advice. Thanks!

Hi there,

I'm fairly new to the forum, but I hope I can offer at least some advice that may be beneficial for you.

See below:

I often find that when I wake up, I feel depleted and to be quite honest, a little sick, so there is no way I could go out running on an empty stomach. However, that doesn't mean that you should chug down a protein shake and some oats either. I'd be tempted to have a nice juicy fruit combo. Maybe some grapes, half a grapefruit or an orange and a cup of green tea, then hit the road.

Saying what I did above, I guess my next two questions are as follows: What should I be having for my two snacks, knowing that I'm doing a 9 week jogging routine?

You're going to be burning a lot of calories, so the last thing you want is to be depleted and lacking energy. I'd throw something in there like a banana and peanut butter sandwich (whole wheat bread) and/or maybe some nuts or another protein shake.

and the next questions is: does the rest of my meal plan sound fine, or is there somthing I should change?

It looks ok to me. Maybe try and add some more fruit and vegetables. Broccolli is great!

and I guess my final question is: after coming back inside from my morning jog 3 days per week, how long should I wait before eating that first meal I mentioned??

I'd say around 30 minutes.
Cheers,

Hi, jogging and running is a great way of starting your fitness journey. I have been a club level runner for about 10 years now and the sport helped play a big part in my body sculpting, fitness and health goals.

You can go out jogging in the mornings on little or no food but it is not recommended. Eating something like a banana before you go our running is light enough so that it doesn't give you stitch but it is packed full of slow release energy to fuel aerobic exercise.

One thing I will say is make sure that you invest in a decent pair of running trainers as you can pick up all kinds of injuries when just starting out.

Thank you both for responding, I really appreciate it.

I will be starting my routine in about a weeks time, and have already taken a "before" picture, and will take other pictures along the way. I'll post them at some point when I get around to it.

Any other helpful information would be great. Thanks again for reading.

A question of preference. You could skip breakfast and go jogging if you like. You feel depleted and hungry and so on, BUT after a while, maybe a week or so, you DON'T feel that way anymore. You get used to it. I go to gym at 3 PM, with empty stomach, no problem.
