age 38
my goal is to lose 30 lbs.
past few months:
my lunch was a tacobell meal, dinner was doublecheese burger about 2000cal total but alot of fat.
on the weekends, i made 2 sandwiches, glass of coke and open the chips then i still feel hungry and make 2 more sandwiches. later i notice i just ate half the loaf of bread, 2 liter and chips in less than 30 min before lunch.
i need to buy cans so i can limit myself to 1 or 2 cans a day.
if i try to cook, i will have alot of leftovers and end up eating that too .
after reading up about calories thanks to other readers comments.
i found a few calculators that say at 230lb my body will burn 2846cal a day. last week i was eating about 450cal a day, so i have up it to 1200cal a day and bought a 25lb dumbell.
gonna leave some room for error becuse i still get middle of the night cheeseburger cravings once or twice a week, no coke or fries
of course and hide the bag from the gf .
walking every day.
3/8/12 - 3/14/12 2.8 miles 211cal. 1 hour
3/15/12 - 3/16/12 3.2 miles 256 cal. 1 hour
3/18/12 6.4 miles 512 cal. 2 hours

I think that, honestly, you need to figure something out.
Just 'doing some dumb bell stuff' doesn't sound very......effective.
At the starting stage I believe that you should at least have an idea of what you will do in the gym.
Sure people like mastover and John Stone can go in and do what they want, but even I, who's followed plans for 3 months, still do it because if I don't have a plan I end up just whimping out and looking confused and don't know what's going on!

3/20/12 3.0 miles 225 cal. 1 hour
gained 1lb off that burger lass night, but man it was worth it.
sooo juicy
yea larson your right.
the personal fitness trainer we got when i started was sick that first day and he over booked to 8 people so he just wrote stuff down on paper cardio this and core that. but he never showed us how to use the machines.
got a buddy at work that goes to the same gym.
he is gonna come to the one i go to next week and show me some stuff.
i think when your fat you have a diffrent mindset. all you care about is losing the weight, becuse for the past 10-15 years you been a fat tub of lard.

First of all, welcome aboard and congratulations on your decision to lose weight.
In my opinion, when it comes to lose weight education is the key. You will find tons of valuable info in this site, but you’ll need to do your homework and dig through the knowledge available.
Prior to know how to train properly you'll need to create a solid meal plan, since dieting comes before training in losing weight. You can find good advice and solid knowledge here and after learn the basics you should come up with your meal plan and maybe post on the forum to have it refined by others members.
After you start to diet properly, then you should learn about the training, because you want to keep your muscles while you’re cutting.
Good luck on your goals and after you read those stickies feel free to ask if you have any doubts.
Gonna follow your journal!

I'll never understand why people subject themselves to this type of extremely low calorie nonsense, while doing only cardio. Your path is a recipe for disaster. I would suggest to read up on the beginner stickie sectiion. It will point you to the right direction and help you avoid many of the pitfalls that most new people fall into. Good luck to you, sir...

i will stay on this diet untill i hit 200lb. i understand i might lose some muscle and be weak i accept this.
right now going to the gym and walking an hour is working for me and the scale is my motivation.
yes i am a noob and i did spend a few hours reading the begginers section.
it talks about alot of diffrent things you can eat and do, but does not give you a clear path.
so i took what i learned and made my own based off my needs, if i knew how to do it better i would.
weight 230lb
daily cal burned 2846cal
cal to lose one pound 3500cal
extra cal burned a day walking 200cal
eating 6x a day fruit/veg/prot, 2 diffrent per hour. 1200cal a day.
mastover i truly respect your commitment to yourself you look amazing.
if i get under 200lb i might change the way i think and
add a weight lifting plan, but right now weightloss is all i really care about.

You are making a crucial mistake with this mind set. So you want to sacrifice muscle for fat loss.
I'll never understand this. Totally ridiculous. You want to burn muscle as a fuel source just to lose weight !?!?!? Wow, .... good luck..

i dont even think you can, unless you have been fat as long as most of us here have.
and you dont need to reply, becuse i dont really care what you think anymore.

grats on getting started
some light weight lifting would definitely speed up your metabolism
muscle burns more calories than fat. the calories burned by muscles repairing themselves is more than an hour of good cardio.
i know watching the numbers drop on a scale is motivating and rewarding, but tightening the belt a notch or 2 feels awesome.
I can help you out with a plan if you like.

grats
you are hitting 2 out of the big 3 (biggest 3 muscle groups are chest, back, and legs) and you are hitting them with compound movements (movements that engage auxillary muscles such as triceps and biceps)
the more muscle that gets engaged, the more energy (which equates to calories) will get burned
the more calories that get burned, the more fat will get dropped.
hi-5 dude

last night i got up to use the restroom and when i came back and layed
on my belly my right arm was by the pillow and under my arm felt like someone hit it with a sledgehammer.
i got on my back but the damage was done, it hurt pretty bad then
when i got up in the morning other arm was hurting the same.
note to self...no more 50 of anything for new machines lol
gonna move very slow for the rest of the day.
