Bored of exercising
I do it because I know I need to, and I try to "change it up", "keep it real", pop in a new DVD, get outside, but I've really leveled off, both in terms of progress and in my mindset. Not really sure which came first, but it's certainly a vicious circle..........

You need to change your mindset.
Don't think of excercising. Find something you like doing and do it because you enjoy it.
A sport. Activity. Anything that gets you moving. Some people run. Some hike. Some climb things. Some dance.

Since your progress have leveled off, I'd be inclined to figure out why. If you are not making any progress, your amibition or drive to get moving isn't going to be as high as it could be.

What exactly do you do?.....and what did you want to accomplish?
Exercise gets boring when:-
It's no fun
There's no results
Are you exercising alone?....joining a group might help.
Having trouble with diet control/choices?.......sticking to the right diet is actually harder than the exercises for a lot of people.
Again joining a group might help.
Many people do better in a group than by themselves......

I find goals give me direction and motivation. If I was just working out in general and going to the gym to be "fit and healthy" I probably would have gotten bored and stopped long ago. I like lifting weights so I am constantly setting higher weight goals for myself which gives me something to work toward rather than just the (what I find too general) "fit and healthy" goal. Your short term goals could be different depending on what you like to do and your long term goals, but I always find setting little achievable goals for myself helps motivate me.

I agree with that as well, small achievements can help keep you going....but I also am completely for a fit and healthy goal. I mean, picture the zombie apocalypse, do you want to be fat and useless? remember zombieland? the fatties are the first to go, for obvious reasons.

Maybe we need to start giving out achievement points for working out lol. Like lost 50 pounds, 50 point achievement. Benched your body weight 25 points, benched double your body weight 50 points. Hell maybe even we could come up with a point system and make a thread for it and we can all count our achievement points. Hey if it works for the Xbox maybe it can work for other things as well.

Read all your suggestions, and all good ones, by the way. Not quite sure what the funk is. I'm sure part of it is that the visible results have leveled off. I think I've also stationary biked myself into oblivion, and the thought of getting on it.....ugh. 4-6 miles/day X 4-5 days/week X 4-5 years........yeah, kinda tired of the bike.
For now I'm taking a little bit of a break from formal do X and then write it down type John Stone exercising. Been shooting hoops waiting for the bus with the kid in the morning, we went to the park for an hour and threw the football around, weather is great here in Tucson, we'll probably do some hikes, I've got a new pedometer so I can make sure I'm not stuck sitting too much of the day.
I am (hopefully) starting a new job soon. Ironically, it may be then, when there is very little time in my day to devote to exercise and I need a quick way to burn the energy/combat the stress that jumping back on the bike might suddenly seem as great as it used to.

There's a time and a place for strict tracking, but that's more of the exception these days (at least for me) rather than the rule.
I think you're on the right track with your latest post. Find physical activities that you enjoy; when you do that, well, then exercise is always fun! I haven't been on my recumbent bike in more than a year, but over the past year I've biked more miles outdoors than I ever did indoors. Enjoyed every second of it, too.

Mrs.Goldsen:-
Airskipping
Bodyweight squats
Pushups
Squat-to-Press....with any available weighted object.
Can be done just about anywhere, anytime, all day long.
I never was a fan of stationary bikes.....I just think they send the wrong neural message to the brain.
Out door mountain bike-riding sends a different message to the brain.
Your body is totally wired for a state of readiness....whereas sitting on a stationary bike in front of a t.v. set will put your brain in sleep-mode and lower metabolic rate....
