Default Why aren't soybeans more popular?

They are a very high protein food. Yet nobody talks about them. Everyone has the awful tasting cottage cheese in their diet, and they try to think of all sorts of ways to make it palatable. Yet soybeans are much better tasting, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone on this forum who has it in their diet.

Why?

Because they are kind of controversial with all the phytoestrogens, etc. Whether it's true or not is debatable.

And cottage cheese is good

I don't like beans in general; and I love meat. Most beans are incomplete proteins too. Correct me if I am wrong.

Soy is a complete protein that has all the essential aminos, although not as optimal ratios as dairy/meat.

In short, the theory/rumor (for men) is that soybeans give you boobs.

FWIW, John used to eat quite a bit of Boca products if I recall correctly and they contain a good amount of soy protein.

Personally, i don't like them. My wife is a vegetarian, so I'll eat it from time to time.

My main issue with fatty legumes (e.g. soya and peanuts) is the relatively high omega-6 content.

Although soy is one of the foods with the highest amount of phytoestrogens, this has never been shown to be harmful, and may even be beneficial.

By the way, flax seeds are an even bigger source of phytoestrogens, but flax seeds (and their oil) are usually held in good esteem by the fitness community. This suggests one should not assume that there is watertight logic behind all of these pronouncements.
