Yeah, it was good. it was a pretty difficult day for us though.

Update:
I ate like crap today and drank a few too many coronas. I'm going to have to subtract 2 points from my May 100 challenge because of the over-indulging I partook in. 5 Coronas (I have next to no tolerance nowadays), a cookie, a vanilla icing topped cup cake, and a big slice of cheesecake... oh and did I mention that I prefaced that all with BBQ ribs, cornbread, and fried chicken??

tomorrow will be a better day, in more ways than one. on a side note, my family were all commenting on how big I look

Well done for getting through a hard day. Not surpising that nutrition went out the window but very cool that your hard work is being noticed

You spent the yesterday where you needed to be and don't beat yourself up about the over indulgant eating and drinking. As you wrote, today is going to be a better day. For many reasons.

Yeah it is nice to every once in a while get that 'atta boy feeling. Especially when you are questioning whether or not anyone even notices the difference

As Kurt Vonnegut said, "So it goes." Not much you can do about it now, like you said, and the next day was better

gym today, ME upper body. I'm debating between bench press and weighted dips... I'm thinking about doing the dips for ME day and i'll do Bench for repetition day this week, or the next couple. I generally don't like doing weighted dips though because I have to do the fake ones sitting strapped into a chair where you push down a bar with plates sitting on the other end of it vs real weighted dips. I wish they would just have a weight belt laying around somewhere. I have yet to get one of my own

i'm so sleepy, but time to get some work done anyway

So the skinny bastard ain't so skinny anymore! I am getting to the point where people are beginning to take notice of my weightloss, and you're right... the affirmation received from other people is a real motivator. Don't sweat the cheat... I'd go crazy if I didn't have one day every week or two where I threw caution to the wind.

I've done weighted dips holding a DB between my legs. It takes a little practice but if you cross your legs the DB seems to stay put.

I figured its all part of the bulking "process"

Update

Ouch, today was a good and bad workout day. I pulled something in my chest/pec by my sternum - and i'm hurting pretty bad right now. deep breaths, moving my arms, or moving my body in certain ways in particular are really bothering me. I don't think it's the muscle so much as the ligaments connecting my pecs at the top of them... if that makes any sense. man it hurts. i don't know whether to ice it or use a heat pad. anyway, onto the update:

Weigh in: 154#
Goal: 160#

A. Max Effort Lift - Work up to a max set of 3-5
Weighted Dips*
warm up @ 90#x10
180x5
200x5
220x5
250x6
275x4 PR, by far(this is when pec goes: riiiiiiiiiiiiip!)

*I had to use the machine cause we don't have dip belts.

B. Supplemental Lift - Perform 3-4 sets of 6-10 reps
Flat DB Press
70x8
75x8
80x7<-PR, failure

C. Horizontal Row - 4 sets of 10-15 reps
Straight bar cable row
120x10
135x10
135x10

D. Rear Delt/Upper Back - 2-3 sets of 12-15 reps
Throat pulls
45x15
60x12
75x12

E. Weighted Abdominal - 3-4 sets of 8-15 reps
None - chest was hurting.

On the plus side, I'm up 6# since April 21st which looking back... is less than a month and I'm pretty happy with that! I've had some serious strength gains in just a few weeks and with the exception of my pec hurting today, I've felt great.

If anyone has any advice on the pec pain... please chime in!

my pec is definitely still bothering me so I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do today. I'd hate to miss any gym session with the growth I've been seeing these past few weeks, but I may have to. Today would have been deadlift day and I would have attempted 315# x5 but I think even deadlifting would aggravate my pec quite a bit with all of the tensing I'd be doing. this sucks

Yes it does suck. I don't have any advice other than to give your body time to heal. What can be done to hasten that is beyond me.

Nice going on the new PR. It's too bad that was the culprit though.

I'm telling you, we might have to temporarily rename this joint the JSF Infirmary...

Sorry to hear that...

Thanks, yeah it was a nice PR but I think it cost a little too much this time

I was thinking about starting a rehab thread

I'm sure it will heal pretty quickly though, it's feeling much better already.

So I did end up skipping the gym yesterday, but I still managed to get some exercise in. I couldn't stand just sitting around the house doing nothing so I broke out the chainsaw I cut a lot of wood up and piled up a ton of brush for the better part of an hour, and I was pretty wiped out by the time my wife got home and asked me to go to a furniture store with her. I was glad to take the break because I was sneezing uncontrollably at that point from all of the dust in the air. Maybe next time I should wear a mask... I cut the wood, tossed it, stacked it... and the whole while my chest felt fine so that's a good sign. it's still just a bit tender when i press in certain spots though so I will be sure to take it easy for at least the weekend. I can't guarantee sitting out anymore past that though, I just don't want to.

Glad to read that your chest is feeling better today. Hopefully it will be a non issue by tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend.

Just read your journal in its entirety for the first time. You've certainly had some major life events over the last year, some good and some bad, but you've managed to make consistent gains throughout. Excellet job.

its a shame you didn't wear your herat rate monitor like Zen does when he does his wood stacking as I bet you got in a decent workout
