Default U-Bar: Has Anyone Seen This?

I came across an article in an old magazine that featured this bar for ab work:

It actually looks as if it might be useful for adding weight in ab work--perhaps more effective than holding plates on one's chest. The company that sold it no longer does so. Has anyone seen this anywhere?

Personally, I don't see how it is any more effective than holding a plate on one's chest or (with grip plates) behind one's head.
