Great work Andy! I believe i'm in the 450 1RM range now for the full deadlift without straps.

The interesting thing is that everyone seems to be pulling right around the same weight - middle 400's.

How can we make this even more interesting....a friendly wager to see who hits 500+ first?

Those interested and lose have to chip in to buy some protein or fitness equipment for the winner...........

I want a duraball and a high quality foam roller!

I don't think I'll be in on the wager. I have to go for surgery in early may and wont be lifting heavy for about 4 to 6 weeks afterwards, which is a huge handicap. I wont be pulling 500 within 8 weeks either, so I'll probably have to pass on that.

BTW: Those foam rollers are pretty nice. I have the black one.

What happens if you lose 50 pounds on your deadlift... is there any reward for that? I bombed out warming up today.

I did 415 yesterday with straps. I've been wearing my Olympic shoes though, which I think have been messing with my pull so we'll see what happens when I get rid of them 4-5 weeks from now when I pull again.

My money is on zens. Brad, you got to do something about all these old injuries.

The reward is you get to work back up.

We're all going to get there, I don't see why "first" really does that much other than push one guy to injure himself and the others to get demotivated when one guy does it.

That virtue is it's own reward.

Is it easier to squat or dead lift? I've never dead lifted in my life so I'm curious. My squat max is is only around 300, and I'm just wondering about where I would be on dead lifts?

It's normally possible to deadlift a bit more than you can squat.

But take a little time to learn a good safe form, and work your way up to heavy weight. You should be doing deadlifts of several types as part of your normal workouts, though, so start right away.

Yeah, it also depends on squat depth. If you're quarter squatting 300, I doubt you'll be able to pull much more than that (maybe not even that much), but if you're taking it ATG then you could potentially be pulling into the very low 400's, depending on how your body is built.

Just learn proper form and work up slowly. Since you've never deadlifted, have you ever done RDLs, SLDLs, etc.? If not or you aren't using a significant amount of weight on them, your posterior chain (including the lower back) is probably pretty underdeveloped in comparision and I would be very wary of piling on the weight.

Glad to see every is making progress. Im still alive and pulled 475 this week. DLs have been easier lately, and I am actually making headway again. I dropped my total DL volume to 40-50% of where it was too... not to mention dropping my body weight to 180.

Sorry I've been a stranger... quals this quarter so must non-essential things have been cut, note: lifting is essential

You go Zen. I hope I'm still that high when I'm your age (not to imply your that old mate). I've never tried hooks, but I am contemplating picking up some.

Still nowhere close to most of you guys, but I got 3x401 today.

A year ago in my log (May 2006) I was finding it hard doing 10x3@210.
