Default NFL Draft

I get more excited every day. Less than two weeks away and my team the Pack are drafting at 5. I personally hope they get Mario Williams-14 sacks. On a side note I hate how the first couple rounds take 10 hours. The first round takes 5-6 hours by itself, it shouldn't be this way.

If I know Gary Kubiak (and I do, I'm a huge Broncos fan) he is going to take Mario Williams with #1. He doesn't need a running back, especially since he has Davis and is likely going to implement the same zone blocking offensive scheme Denver uses (which wouldn't play to the strengths of a back like Reggie Bush). I also doubt he will take a QB that won't start this season and who could possibly cause a controversy if Carr doesn't perform. Kubiak wants to show that he can win in his first year; Mario is an impact player and will immediately improve any team.

A perfect scenario from my biased perspective would be for San Fran or Green Bay to trade down with Denver in the first round so the Broncos can grab Vernon Davis. Green Bay might want to trade down for value in a deep draft and San Fran is running out of money to pay all of those top draft picks.

Everything I've heard says that Houston is still sold on Bush and will be taking him with their #1.

I'm excited to hear that the Bills will probably be smart and take an offensive lineman with their first pic rather than draft a QB like Cutler or another WR like Jackson.

Ok, pardon my being cynical...but every ESPN commercial I see has to do with someone that was drafted in the 2nd round+...shoudl I really be stoked over the possibility of getting LenDale White vs. this running back from Minnisota?

The NBA draft has shown that middle-round picks are usually the best, the NFL draft has shown that off-the-chart picks are usually the best.

No #1 NFL draft choice has *ever* won the Super Bowl, so please explain to me why I should be excited...this isn't a condemnation, but rather a plea! I really want to be excited, but I could really care less...

Ever hear of John Elway or Troy Aikman?

See?

Haha, just joshing ya... But the real point is that my Philadelphia Eagles are gonna come back with a vengeance this year and kick some serious grass.

Vikes have an interesting position with 5 first day picks, could trade all the way up to #3 if they were inclined to..

There's just so many rumors flying, i've been looking forward to this for a long time, I want it to be here already so I can see our team situation; draft should be held earlier in the month.

It's been a great offseason for us so far, say what you want about losing Culpepper.. we got all-pro's Hutchinson and Tony Richardson

Whoever takes Bush or Mario will be staring at a HUGE price tag! For that reason if I were in the top five this year I would trade down to about 10-15th if someone were willing. Thats where I'd take one of: LenDale, Maroney and/or Bobby Carpenter who are all 3 highly under-rated IMO. Both LenDale and Maroney can run the ball HARD but WILL take some top-caliber teaching. Carpenter has brains and instinct and could be made into something very good.

Being a Buckeye I'm a huge AJ Hawk fan, he is not flashy but he has an incredible drive and instinct, is quiet but is always making a play at the point of attack. On the flip side of the coin I would NOT take Santonio Holmes. He's a guy that I just don't see being tough enough. I WOULD take Nick Mangold as he is another STELLAR player both mentally and physically.

Being a 49er fan and reading all the hoopla on the net, they keep talking about Huff or Davis with their 1st-round pick. Both good choices, and they have to get some serious defensive help in the 2nd & 3rd rounds. Wen it comes to their "D", the 49ers need a LOT of help after losing JP. They need a Bobby Carpenter, a Mike Kudla and more. Frank Gore will emerge as a punishing running back and hopefully they will trade for Javon Walker. Their OL is pretty stout with depth now. Alex Smith needs to break out and show something early in the season or else he will get the bench treatment. You have 2-3 other hungry young guys behind him waiting for him to slip up.

Genetix - what do you think about Vince? He reminds me a lot of a younger Culpepper. I think they need to snag a young quarterback either in the draft or through trade. They should do well in the draft and the new coach sounds like a steady guy.

One mock draft said my Ravens could get Vince Young. That would be nice. Anyone but Boller. They've had nothing but bad luck since ditching Dilfer. Maybe it's a curse and they should get him back. I have a dream about Baltimore meeting Seattle in the Super bowl. That would be so cool.

As someone already said, Aikman won three.

Cool, so I was wrong there were two guys in the history of the draft that did something special after a #1 pick...but how many of the star players in the league were drafted in the 2nd round+? ...most of them!

Not that it means anything, but the Texans haven't even met with Bush. They have, however, met with Mario Williams and actually negotiated for a contract (as the team with the first pick they are allowed to do this.)

I love the NFL draft, but I HATE the five hours between picks...God, how long can you really discuss this stuff before the next team picks.

That would be sweet. I'd take him! I'd like to see Boller get a little more time though either way. We definately need someone else in there though to compete. I'd like to see a vetran like Collins, and a high draft pick... Vince would be my choice. The Ravens have never taken a QB in the first round, except Boller, so I'm not especially excited about our ability to pick good QB's high in the draft. We can however pick other positions extremely well, so I kinda want to see us pick linemen. We need OL, and I'd like to see us get back to a couple of big DT's like we had when we were champs.

As a Ravens fan myself, I must say that the Ravens Superbowl winning team was built with team #1 picks... all these guys were taken in the 1st round for the Ravens, ever heard of:
1996- Jonathan Ogden, Ray Lewis (Future HOFers)
1997- Peter Boulware
1998- Duane Starks (errr... not the best choice)
1999- Chris McCallister
2000- Jamal Lewis

LemonSong- You're off your rocker on this one! The first round is huge. All those guys except Starks are Pro Bowlers, and they won the SB for Baltimore.

Football is much more of a team sport than Pro basketball.

James, Bryant, Nash, etc...

With football so many factors go into whether or not a team can have success and as well as players...

All I'm saying is in the NBA draft single players can change the game better, that's the nature of the sport..

One player can't do anything on his own in the nfl because of how football works...

A single player can completely impact a game in basketball, which isn't possible in football, like I said before.

It's comparing apples and oranges which is not a plausible argument or comparison to make at all!

If the only measuring stick being used is super bowls, i'd like to see someone tell me with a straight face that Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson are better quarterbacks than Peyton Manning.

Yes, Dilfer is better than Peyton "We had pass protection problems" Manning. I won't shut up until that overrated pretty boy stops choking. Okay, maybe not then either.

You can not seriously sit there and believe that Trent Dilfer is better than Manning...

You can insert Marino in the thought and I still think I prove my point.... and if you tell me Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino I think I'll somehow cry...

It'll be 3 QBs to win a Superbowl when Carson win's one for the Bengals .

Yah Marino is better than Dilfer. I mostly just hate the Colts for leaving Baltimore. I can't help it. And Peyton is so darn smug.

In all honesty, though, I think coaching is the reason Indy didn't beat the Steelers and win it all this year. I think Holmgren did a much better job of protecting key players late in the season without letting them get rusty than what Dungy and his staff did. They should've tried to go undefeated, playing starters the whole time. I think they could've stayed in a rythm and rolled all the way, then Peyton would have his ring.
