Update

Sleep is a wonderful thing and something that I often get too little of. Not last night, however, and I woke up feeling refreshed after Monday's late night. Whether or not that was a contributory factor for my great workout this morning I can't say with certainty, but I'm sure that it didn't hurt. I marginally increased the weights again so I'm almost back to where I was before the car accident. My reps aren't there yet as I've lost some strength, but that will return as long as I keep hitting the gym. I finished about 1.5 hours ago and my pinkys are tingling more than before the workout so I may have pushed myself to the limit; in any case I need to follow up with the neurologist and schedule an MRI, but I can't do any of that before some legal issues are taken care of. Note to self: call your attorney today.

Have a great day!

Another day/night of good nutrition, hydration, and sleep although I did have an after dinner cocktail, something I haven't done in months. Now that I'm past my self imposed temperance I allowed myself to indulge, if I can even call it that, but I'm not going to let this become a habit. Tonight there will be nothing harder than seltzer. My effort to cut has shown some positive results, but I'm lagging behind the modest pace targets that I set. With 6 1/2 weeks until my marathon I need to get more focused and shed the weight at a faster pace. One good note is that I've gotten rid of the Passover/Easter bloat from this past weekend.

Today's a cardio day and as much as I'm itching to test my legs and run I'm going to cycle. I'll be going out at lunch time and hope to ride for at least 45 minutes. Anything more will be gravy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the additional rest will be what's necessary for me to run pain free on Saturday. I'm cautiously confident that I'll be fine in that respect, but I'm nervous about what awaits me because 17 miles is a long distance to run and wifey and I are going out Friday night so it's going to be a late evening. I'm not concerned about any dietary temptations as I'll have that under control, but ideally I would like to have a less active evening with an opportunity to get more sleep. The run will be wifey's last long run and she's going to be doing 10 miles and we're switching it up by doing her portion first.

Have a great day!

Though I have only seen one episode of the tv show Mad Men, you remind me of that show.

Have a good run. You are going to be well prepared for the half marathon. A marathon in 7 weeks, I couldn't even imagine it.

I have seen only one or two episodes of the show and believe me if you saw me last night in all my sartorial splendor you wouldn't think of those sharply dressed folks. I was in my recliner reading while wearing Levi jeans, a flannel shirt, and slippers; not exactly dressing for success.

As for going out, I'm really a homebody. Most who know me in person will tell you that and while I can honestly state that I'm perfectly content spending my evenings as I did last night (without the cocktail) I have to admit that for someone who's natural inclination is to hang at home I do go out a lot. When my kids were younger we very rarely went out without them, usually only for our anniversary and respective b'days so the past year has been a big change from the previous couple of decades. Actually, I'm not so sure I go out a lot, but when I do it tends to be in bunches. Not sure why, but it just seems to happen that way. For instance, currently I'm in the midst of a stretch of going to 6 concerts in 13 days.

Last Monday: Furthur (Grateful Dead members and friends)
Tomorrow: Masters of Tradition (Celtic musicians playing, what else, traditional music)
Sunday: A classical piano recital by a local artist
Wednesday: Furthur
Friday: John Prine (What can I add, he's John Prine)
Saturday: Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes (anniversary gift from my kids)

It's all going to be fun, but it's really too much in such a short time period and I'm a little concerned about the affect the schedule is going to have on my training.

After next Saturday, not counting wifey's half mary and my full one, the next event we have is a Met-Yankee game on June 8th so we'll have a number of weeks of being low key. I'm going to need it.

Thanks. If I stick with my plan I'll have an 18 mile training run under my belt before the half mary so I should be able to knock that out. The marathon will be more problematic, but aside from last week's issues I've been doing fine on my long training runs. Hopefully I'll return to form this Saturday.

Shamie, with the amount of running you do I don't think it would take very long for you to get ready for a marthon.

I rode 11.1 miles with an average pace of 16.1 mph. It was a nice way to spend some time.

I was putting something away in my pantry earlier today when I came across a bag with a couple of old potatoes. A normal person would have just taken the bag and its ruined contents and threw it in the garbage, but not me. Photo op on a slow work day! Yes, I'm aware I have issues.

Cool pictures. I probably would not of thought of taking pictures but what a neat idea. Looks alien like! Must of been a super slow day or you were farting around avoiding doing something you didn't want to do. I catch my hubby doing crazy stuff when he's avoiding something... Recently it was the taxes

Thanks. It was a little of both, a slow day and me just avoiding some work that I'm going to have to do later anyway.

Update

Wifey and dear son are going to the gym tonight. In other news his spring break is next week so he and I are going on college tours Monday and Tuesday.

Nutrition has been solid so I'm hoping to see a favorable scale reading tomorrow AM. Dear son doesn't have to be at school until 7:45 so I'll be moving some iron at 8 tomorrow.

I showed wifey and dear son the potato eye photos I posted here and some of the responses as I scrolled through them were:

Eeeew!;
I'm going to have nightmares;
Please God don't tell me you served us that;
I could have lived a very happy life without seeing those pictures;
You're a sick person;
Why would you do this?;
Are those in our house?.

That wasn't my intent when I took them, but I had a good chuckle.

I think the pictures are quite pretty and the first one made me smile - it looks like a little happy caterpillar on a rock or something The rest remind me more of sea life than anything... also pleasant

Congrats on the nice bike ride

Congrats on the nice bike ride
Interesting that you wrote about a caterpillar because wifey also mentioned something similar.

My intent was only to capture macro pictures of something that everyone, including me, doesn't pay attention to and I really thought that the reaction of wifey and dear son would have been more favorable.

Thanks about the bike ride; given the amount of cycling I've done in the past couple of years it's probably okay, but it's hard for me to not compare myself to a few years ago when the numbers I posted would have been embarrassing.

Glad I helped you figure it out.

Update

A very mediocre workout this morning; the weights felt heavy. Very heavy, but I stuck with it and finished. Gripper work will be done this afternoon.

I'm getting increasingly worried about tomorrow's training run because I'm feeling run down and I know that tonight won't be an early evening. After last week I can't afford to have another poor outing.

TGIF!

your fixation on dead bugs and disgusting growths has always perplexed me. i'm wondering if you worked in the environmental department at camp staff when you were in high school.

Not all the bugs were dead. Really, it's more a matter of photgraphing very small things that are readily available. If you recall, in the past I've posted some tiny flowers that were in one of my flower boxes such as this:

Name:  _MG_1769.jpg
Views: 47
Size:  171.7 KB

as well as some high speed macro photography of water drops like this:

Views: 47

There are no more old potatoes in the house so I'm moving on from that those as subjects.

Gripper work is done and I'm about to call it a week. Time to get ready to head into NYC to meet wifey for dinner and a concert.

The Car Show is this week at the Javits Convention Center. Might give you some ideas about which car to buy. Your son might enjoy it.

Have fun at the concert.
