Default hot yoga?

anyone have any results incorporation hot yoga into their workout? i started doing it 2 times a week for the last month and was wondering what others who have tired it thought. prior to that i was at the gym 3-5 days a week doing cardio and weights but my body was craving some change. overall i have never felt better. a little sqishy around the middle but my core and alignment feels amazing!

I know that my diet is not there and i dont do hot yoga enough, has anyone here had good weight loss results with doing hot yoga (as well has the proper diet in place?

I'm not sure what hot yoga is, but Ashtanga (active yoga) is an excellent calorie burner when used with a proper diet.

you're talking about Bikram yoga... I'm not a fan... however, do what you LIKE to do... just be sure to drink a LOT of water... yoga is good for you, but I don't agree with the temperatures they keep rooms at for classes like Bikram (100 degrees fahrenheit or more)... Bikram is basically a Hatha yoga class in a VERY hot room, the only extra benefit/health concern that I can see coming from Bikram is a loss of water... ie: dehydration... suposedly the high temperatures help to warm up your ligaments and help you become more flexible, but those same temperatures will dehydrate you which is dangerous... IF you are going to do Bikram make sure you drink a LOT of water to keep yourself hydrated.. you would get the same benefits (alignment, flexability and balance) from a regular Hatha or Ashtanga yoga class... my main point here is to be careful... Bikram yoga was founded in California about 30 years ago... classic Hatha yoga was founded centuries (3000 to 5000 years ago) ago by master Hindu yogi's... just a tiny bit of background and the reason why I don't put much stock in Bikram myself

personally though, yoga in and of itself is not enough to become truly fit, you should still be going to the gym to lift weights and you should still be doing cardio... yoga is very healthy but, in my opinion, it is not enough by itself... add one or two day's of the yoga to your schedule, but keep the lifting and the cardio... by the way, I'm a certified yoga instructor

also, you mentioned that your diet isn't great, can you tell us what a typical daily diet looks like? times & amounts please, so we can help you fix that... diet is the most important factor in all of this, if your diet isn't right, you're just spinning your wheels.

Which means that Hatha has long been practiced in temperatures far exceeding a climate-controlled Bikram room. Of course, it was also being practices by people accilimated to those temperatures, so, as always, trust your body!

while it's true that Hindu's most likely practiced outside despite heat, the point of the practice was NOT to subject themselves to the heat (like you said, they were acclimated to the climate), but to focus on the mind/muscle connection and to gain strength, balance and flexibility while focusing on thier spiritual connection(s) and creating inner peace... yoga in it's original form is more about the mind, spirtuality and creating inner peace/calm, listening to your body and using correct breathing techniques.

Bikram reminds me too much of the 1980's practice of wearing rubber running suits to lose weight... not safe, especially since most people don't understand that all they're losing is water and not fat...and they don't usually drink enough water to replace what they've sweat out, thereby dehydrating themselves... but like I said earlier, this is just my opinion on the subject... take it as that and nothing more.

I am under the impression that ligaments hardly stretch after childhood. Something like 5% is the max they wll stretch before they snap in an adult.

Default hot yoga

I did Bikram religiously for awhile. I ended up with a pretty severe back strain because the heat really allows you to stretch and I pushed it too far. It is a great workout but like with everything, you need to be careful too.
