Are you saying you don't know how to bake a potato meaning like how long, or you're looking for a new recipe?

My roommate used to make what he called a "hobo dinner"...he'd just cut up potatos and onions and then bake them together for about 45 min. at 350...haha!

Wrap a potato in aluminum foil. Set the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 40 minutes.

I'm thinking a russet potato here. Stick a fork in the potato to see if it's done. If you meet a lot of resistance, bake for longer.

ps. I suggest you use sweet potatoes instead. More nutritious and more fiber!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/da...at_67837.shtml

Preparation time less than 30 mins

Cooking time 1 to 2 hours

Ingredients
2 fat, floury potatoes (maris piper, king edward or marfona are all good bakers)

Basically, imagine mr. potato head (look this up on google if you don't know what it is. You need a biggish potato.

olive oil - or any vegetable oil. make sure you don't use a lot.
salt (not too much)

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas mark 6.
2. Wash the potatoes well, dry them and prick >>>deeply<<< into them several times with a fork. That's important, they'll explode in the oven if you don't.

Pour a small amount (SMALL - this is important) of oil into your hands and rub over the potatoes, remember, it needs to be small. DO NOT OVER DO the amount of oil you use. if you do it will burn and hiss in the oven and you don't want that dude. lightly oiled. Make sure it looks like it's greasy, like a face of a person who hasn't washed in 2 days. think lightly greased.

then scatter over some salt which should stick to the oil (small amount, again, remember salt is bad if you have too much, use moderation. Place directly on the middle shelf in the oven and bake for a good 1 and a quarter to one and a half hours,

BUT check it every 15 minutes, don't let it burn. use your intuition. it will be cooked acceptably after 45 minutes to an hour, everything after that softens it up and makes it more soft inside. don't let the skin burn.

depending on the size of the potato. When cooked, the potato should be golden and crispy on the outside and give a little when squeezed. Serve split open

You cut it down the middle, but so it is still held together by the skin at the bottom. >>>>>Put a towel round your hand<<<< WHEN you cut it in half on a stable surface, steam may escape (don't burn yourself). Use butter, or chilli, or curry, or beans as a filling. Again, this is your choice, you can also use tuna and salad cream/mayonaise. it's a very versatile meal. let the filling soak in your potato for about 3-5 minutes.

Don't be put off though, i make it sound dangerous, it's one of the best ways of cooking a potato. So tasty. And healthy.

You could also microwave the potato if you're as impatient as me.
