Is there a doctor in the house?

I've had a sore throat and runny nose for a week now. I've had zero appetite and have eaten very little, but I'm drinking a lot of fluids.

As of this morning I have a "productive" cough.... in other words, I'm coughing up green mucus. (Sorry for grossing you all out ) And when I do, my throat tastes like I just swallowed a mouthful of hairspray. Does this "production" indicate an infection of some sort? Is it time to see a doc? Or is this still just a cold and I should keep waiting for it to get out of my system?

Andi,

Take a look at this page from webmd

http://my.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_...navbar=hw85335

I got to this page by answering yes when it asked if you have a productive cough and this is what it came up with. It did not have option for St Patty's colored mucus...

Wow, that is way cool. Thank you jmcalla! I haven't felt feverish. I'll take my temp tonight and see if the thermometer agrees. If so, I'll just wait it out. Thanks again. Nice work!

andi... I saw you were from ATL and I have a question (wrong forum probably) but my boss is going to ATL next week. How long does it take to get from Hartsfield airport to Georgia World Congress Center roughly by car during rush hour? I am trying to plan his trip... Thanks...

Traffic here SUCKS. I've never been to GWCC (and I don't visit that area during rush hour), but according to Mapquest they're about 10 miles apart. Rush hour means you should plan at least 30-45 minutes to make that distance. If your boss doesn't mind public transportation there's always MARTA. It can take him directly from the airport to GWCC (north, switch at 5 Points, west to Dome Station). It might actually be quicker than going by car.

Okay, I'm going to the doctor today. 10 days with aa runny nose and cough (and 4 days of a productive cough) is too much. Wish me luck!

Ansett wanted to know how I was and what the doc said, so I thought I'd post here too in case anyone else is wondering

I'm not better yet. The doc isn't sure what I have, but he *thinks* it's a sinus infection. So I'm on antibiotics, with a cough suppressant to take at night, to see if that works

I've only taken two of the antibiotics so far, so I haven't noticed any change yet. I hope he diagnosed correctly and this goes away quick, I'm really sick of being sick!!

Im a doctor (well student), if you are going to wait i recommend tons and tons of water, dont do cardio or any excercice that can increase your temp or make you breathe through your mouth, i can recommend some anti-inflamatory like "nimesulide" (active ingredient dont know the equivalent in american drugs) 100 mg x 12 hours x 4 days....."nimesulide" does not make you drowsy like tylenol and it will help with the sore throat a lot... if not ask your doctor

Andi!

Same thing is going around here - 2 weeks ago my work out partner got real sick - last week I got sick and was in bed for 4-5 days and am still sniffling and have all the symptoms. Nothing worse than being sick to throw you off track. I feel much better than I did, but the only thing I can suggest is just rest. Don't lift, don't cardio, eat right, drink lots of fluids and most importantly...sleep!

I hope you feel better.

-Matt

Thanks guys! I'm feeling a lot better today, I'm actually going to work out for the first time in AGES!!

I might also mention that yesterday I took in quite a few calories more than I had been recently. I took Jeremy's tip and had some healthy fat- before I knew it I'd taken in 300 calories just in pistachios!! I was concerned about what that would do to my weight this morning, and I was surprised to see that this morning I'm actually down 1.2 lbs from yesterday, to my all time (well, in the last 5 years) low of 156.6! I may make 155 by March 31 after all!

HOLY CRAP I'M GOIN' TO EUROPE IN A WEEK!!!!
