Default Hi guys i'm new here.

Hi guys i'm new here. As I write this, i guess you lot have been up for most of the day... it's 9am here in the uk and i've just taken my partner to work, so please bare with me as i'm shattered!

Ok a little about me. My name's Dave, I'm a 21year old teaching student from leeds (originaly from devon). I have come here as I saw some of john's photos and was amazed at the change... he looks great!

Personally, i'm not going for the same sort of body as john as I find impact sports hard work on my joints etc. BUT... I used to be a national swimmer... with a great body (at age 16!), right now i've come to university to study to be an elementary school teacher. I've not really put on weight as such, I weighed about 14st ish before, and i weigh about 15ish now, but its all gone south. I feel awful about it, I have no stamina (but then again i never really had any in the first place), and i just look fat... its not a nice feeling!

I'm not looking to get buff, as the amount of excersise that i did at boarding school really put me off - 2hrs pool time in the morning, 3hrs pool time in the evening - so 5km each day. To be honest i'm 100% happier not doing any swimming, but then again it just depreses me to have put on so much fat.

Unfortunatly due to my uni course & other comitments, my time that i can get to the pool is limited, so i need some help with ideas of what i can do to get rid of the weight.

Well this is me... sorry i'm not smiling but i haven't got a lot to smile about in that photo

Really i'm looking to do pool work to avoid injury as i've tried gym work and besides the cost for me... on my pitiful student loan... i end up hurting myself!

Can anyone help me?

Hey,

good to see someone else from England

You don't have to do a huge amount of cardio (whether it's pool based or otherwise) to lose fat. It's more about diet.

What you do really need to do to keep the muscle is weights. That's the most effective way out there to build or maintain muscle. Have a look through some of the stickies at the top of the bulking and cutting threads for ideas about this. Once you've read them a few times, put together a plan (there are so many possible ways of doing this that no-ones going to prescribe anything to you), then post your plan on here (weights, cardio and eating) and get people's thoughts about it.

You can find the answers to a lot of basic questions by using the search function, or reading the stickies but anything you can't find in either of those, ask and someone on here is bound to know the answer.

Good luck.
