Default You know you're out of shape when...

I was reading another thread where a new member was telling some of the tell tale signs that he was out of shape. Here's my list in no particular order:
  1. I have to grab the top of the car door to pull myself out.
  2. I look down when entering a building because I can't stand to see my reflection in the glass door.
  3. I'm winded after climbing one flight of stairs
  4. My bike is covered with dust and I can't remember the color.
  5. The first words out of the mouth of a long lost friend are "Gee, you're fat!"
  6. I feel like everyone is staring at me in disbelief.
I'm happy to report that after 5 months and 50 lbs, this list is somewhat out of date. My new list looks like this:
  1. The spare tire is not quite gone.
  2. I still can't see my abs.
  3. I can't ride 50 miles on the bike without stopping.
  4. No one is staring at me in amazement.
I hope to have a new list in a couple of months!

Default Congratulations!

You are an inspiration! What an amazing story. I'd love to share it with others - send me an e-mail if you are interested. I collect success stories to post at my site.

I knew I was out of shape when I ran out of breath tying my shoes. That was really the factor that made me pause and go - something is REALLY WRONG here. 65 pounds later, I cannot believe how I was neglecting not just my health, but actually forcing my family to suffer due to my poor choices. It is so nice to be able to keep up with my teenaged son and carry my daughter around, instead of having to tell them - go on and play, Daddy is going to sit here and sip his beer. No more of that!

Thanks for sharing.

Jeremy

For me it would have to be the unbuttoning of my pants. I'd come home from work and sit, within a couple minutes I'd be unbottoning my pants and then lowering the zipper for the evening. You know it was bad when I could walk around the house this way and my pants would still stay up as if buttoned.

Now, after dropping 4" from waist and hips the pants fall to the floor if not wearing a belt. Cool Beans!

Shoelaces? Maybe I wasn't as far out of shape as I thought I was. I never had that problem.

As for the pants, I solved that long ago by buying those Dockers with the hidden elastic in the waistband. I bought a couple of new 38s shortly before starting my weight loss and they were too big by Jan 1. I bought some 36s at the time and almost bought 34s instead. With the elastic, the smaller size fit in the waist but the hips were small enough that the pockets bulged a little. As it turns out, I should have lived with the bulging pockets for a couple of weeks. My 36s are falling off of me now. This transformation thing can get expensive!

Yep. Tying the shoes was what pushed me over the edge too. Others:

1. Bulletproof vest pinching the love handles. (SUX)
2. Dizzyness when standing up from the couch or bed too fast.
3. Using the entire hand instead of two fingers to "pinch" a layer of fat
4. Noticing that 38" waist pants were getting too tight, and REAL exertion to button pants/buckle belts. These pants and belts now fall off me, btw.
5. Breathlessness after mild exertion
6. Claustrophobic feeling in smaller vehicles, especially ones with large center console

27 pounds later, its all just a bad dream. *sigh*

How about you know your to fat when you lay on your back on the wet concrete next to the pool after swimming and find your lower back has become a suction cup capable of making very loud farting sounds.

How about when you get into a suntan bed and it won't close all the way because your stomach is pressed against the lid. I can't get my stomach to even hit the lid now even when I inhale and try to stretch my stomach up to reach it as I am down 26 lbs in 7 weeks from 235. Still making fart sounds with my lower back suction cup against the smooth surface of the suntan bed but at least I dont have to pry myself off with a spataula anymore. Ten more weeks and that won't be a problem anymore.

And yes tieing my shoes and putting on socks was pretty much the other straw that broke this fat boys back.

Some girls here may have heard this one:

"Are you pregnant?"

When you're not.

I've never laughed so hard while surfing this site!!
No offense, I was a fat slob, and still have plenty of fat to loose!

I imagined someone on a giant "George Forman Grill" and you couldnt even close the lid on it, since the slab of fat/meat was so big...!!

Thanks
Jerry
