Default The Donkey Press

My trainer and I were discussing some leg routines, he briefly mentioned the Donkey Press. I haven't been able to find anything about it on the internet - is there an alternate name for this (Perhaps calf raise or something) so that I may find a picture on the internet of how to perform this exercise? Thanks!

Just saw two guys doing these today -- funny how that works.

There are machines that achieve the same thing, which is what your trainer was probably referencing. If you tried to use your training partner in a commerical gym, you'd probably be kicked out.

This is a darn good exercise though. I don't know how to explain it but you really "feel it" deep in the calf. I wish my gym had the machine. My girlfriend isn't heavy enough to sit on my back for these on boards, and I'm not asking any of the guys at the gym to hop on my back.

As I am very comfortable with my sexuality I have no problem doing them. Like Chris, I find them very effective. On second thought, a public gym may not be the place for them.

I am comfortable too.

But I would not feel comfortable saying to the powerlifters at my gym "hey, wanna sit on my butt while I do the donkeys?" I might get punched in the squat rack.

I too am very comfortable with my sexuality. I am 100% lesbian, I love women. However, back in the very early 90's when I first got hooked on lifting and bodybuilding I went out and bought two books, One by Joe Weider and one by professional bodybuilder Bob Paris. Bob had a whole section on "buddy training". I thought at the time that that was a little gay later to find out he is gay. Sorry I'm not having any guy sit on my back either.

Gay or not, to the best of my recollection Bob Paris looked great. I wouldn't worry about his sexual preferrence rubbing off on you if you took some of his advise. It may very well help.

I'm not worried about it rubbing off on me. I have friends that are gay. I'm just not going to let one of the sit on my back. Have to draw the line somewhere.

And I did learn a lot from his book and he does have a great physique.

I want to be the first to report that I am deeply offended by the homophobic undertones of the posts in this thread.

Nah, I am not. This thread is all in good fun and very funny!

Personally, no donkey calf raises for me. I do not allow anybody’s boys on my back, no matter how pretty he is. How does anyone expect to meet girls at the gym if they see you doing that? I would rather have no calfs!

Are there any free weight exercises that exercise the calfs but minimise the stress on the spine or lower back?

If you're in a gym they usually have the seated calf raise machine which takes the stress off. I can't really think anything for home. Unless you have an bench that you can adjust the bar height. Adjust it to when your seated your legs barely squeeze under it, put your feet up on a 2x4 or something and do them that way. You could add a towel over your legs if it's too uncomfortable.

Wow that seems complicated!

Not Funny.

I wouldn't sit on your "Butt", but I would probably kick it for you.
