Default Egg Whites (looking for input)

Hey gang,

<unrelated>Got my before pics in...I'll be posting at the end of next month when I take some progress pics (and after another 10lbs).

I'm wondering if anyone has nutritional information for egg whites. I'm considering substituting EGG BEATERS <tm> for just plain whites. I realize the gain I'll make in cholesterol, etc...but I really don't care for the taste of EBs.

How do you guys eat your Egg Beaters? I just can't get used to the substituted yolk stuff, and don't find them as enjoyable to eat as regular egg whites (which I LOVE).

Any suggestions, or info?

Thanks again...

Ken

Top weight - 248lbs

egg whites are great, but i have gotten used to the taste of egg beaters. mix in some onion, tomato and peppers and you can't even tell the difference between egg beaters and real eggs....just my opion!

Egg Beaters are better than egg whites in every way IMO. They taste better, are much easier to cook and since you don't throw out 70% of the egg, you save money.

I put mine in the microwave for 1 min then mix, 1 more mix, flip and about 20 more seconds. Throw on some salt, pepper, ketchup and they taste AWESOME!

I just drink it down as fast as I can.

KT, I've considered this...but I really don't care for ketchup (regardless of the fact that the extra sugar doesn't help me out!).

I've used Frank's Hot Sauce and love the taste, so I may keep a bottle in the fridge at work and tough it out. EBs are not cheap ($4.19 for two cartons here in Ottawa, Canada), and that was also a reason for justifying the switch to whites.

I've also considered this! Years ago when I was training for fights (I was an amateur kickboxer and mixed-martial arts competitor), I'd take 3 egg whites in 2oz of light beer. You don't even taste the eggs going down - the beer TOTALLY masks it. It's also a great excuse for me to start drinking beer again

I'm going to try to down a carton tomorrow am, and I'll let you know if I liked it, or how many paper towels it took for me to clean the regurgitant off the walls.

I get 6 16oz cartons for $6 at Costco. That lasts me about 2 weeks. 30 eggs is like $4-$5 and since I only ate the whites, it would last me about 5 days (6 egg whites each time). Not to mention the pain the ass it was to separate the whites.

Drinking it just sounds nasty to me, but hey, to each his own.

The commercial versions are pasteurized, so you don't have to worry about tasty bacteria, but I wouldn't risk it with raw egg whites.

The only problem with drinking down egg whites is I get this nasty sickly-sweet aftertaste when I drink water afterwards.

egg beaters are 120 cals per cup, 24 g protein.

i personally prefer using real egg whites. i get eggs in bulk at my costco and its simple to separate them. the stuff in the carton has some stuff added, coloring, and some other artificial stuff. probably nothing bad that would inhibit fitness goals, but i prefer to eat as natural as possible.

This is the nutritional info for the egg white from a single large egg

Cal - 17
Fat - 0g
Sodium - 55mg
Carbs - 0g
Protein - 4g

I usually make a scramble with 1/8 cup onions, 1/2 cup cooked potatos (or 1/2 cup squash), 4 egg whites & 1 whole egg whipped. Saute veggies until cooked, pour on eggs and scramble. Salt & pepper to taste and top with LF Sour Cream and salsa.

Usually have either this or Oatmeal for breakfast.
