I have wondered the same thing. I was told Mrs. Dash's spice works. I tried it and it seemed to be ok, but there has to be something better

Try the tuna in a pouch. It doesn't have that "tin" taste. And go for the albacore tuna. It tends to not be as fishy.

/agree with Wop
The pouch tuna has much less smell than the can tuna. The albacore has too little "taste" for me though.

The pouch tuna is really good. For canned I would put it in a strainer and rinse with really hot water, then cold, pat dry, works for me :-)

Fry it with tomato sauce, rice and some vegetables and spice it up with your favorite spices. Shrimp and shellfish are good with this.

From the former Seafood Chef...
How to get rid of that "tuna" taste:
1. Get a collander or a fine mesh sieve.
2. Extract tuna from can (holding nose if necessary).
3. Place tuna in collander or sieve.
4. Run it under cold water for about 2 minutes.
5. Use as desired.
How does the former Seafood Chef desire it to be used? Well...
Tommy's Tuna Rollups
1 can of tuna
1 small onion, chopped
1 small red or green pepper, chopped
1/4 cup of tomato-based flavoring of your choice (i.e., salsa or pasta sauce)
Salt and pepper to taste (You can add additional seasonings by taking a cue from your choice of "tomato-based flavoring" above; for example, when I use salsa, I add some cumin, chili powder and oregano.)
4 8 inch tortillas (can be flavored or plain)
1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Combine the first five ingredients in a small pan over low heat. Heat completely through.
3. Heat the tortillas in the oven for 5-10 minutes.
4. Remove tortillas and spread equal parts of the mixture over each tortilla.
5. Roll up tortillas and serve.
These taste even better the next day, and the next day after that. I usually make a batch of these and then have them for lunch for the week. Good either hot or cold.
Bon appetit!

The pouches are cool but are way more expensive than the canned tuna. I put relish in mine, only downfall is sodium.
Lemon juice is supposed to help too. I tried a few cans that come with lemon juice because they were on sale 2 for 1. I found out why, it was horrible. Might be different if you use fresh lemon juice though.

I'll second the lemon juice. I can hardly taste the tuna with a dash of lemon juice added to it.

I'd try the GRILLED TUNA OVER BLACK BEANS - LACED WITH CHILE AND CUMIN WITH SPICY TOMATO CHUTNEY, but I think you need to be a real chef to make this.

The Albacore pouches do taste a lot better than the canned stuff. They have 7 Oz of tuna in 'em so some of us can eat it all at one sitting.
I like to mix up the tuna with fat free Miracle Whip and cut up a slice of fat free american cheese. Then I put it inbetween a couple of slices of Stone Ground wheat bread and make a grilled tuna and cheese sandwich. Oh man, that's livin'! I let my 9 yr old daughter try some of my sandwich (normally she HATES whole wheat/fat free stuff) and she really liked it. I didn't tell her it was really good for her LOL.
