Any reccomendations for dealing with burritos?

Well, they don't count if you eat them standing up, right?

Cut them in half so all the calories leak out the open ends. This also works on donuts.

LOVE all of these. My family has used all of these to justify bad eating - present company included. Sooo many of these. Disclaimer not necessary, I've seen what happens to people who act like they believe that this is true.

Actually, these are fresh burritos, made with real veggies and beans and all sorts of good stuff. I eat them without the tortilla - so the cals are a little high (as is the sodium), but it's not a lot of simple carbs. It's a very good meal, with about 200 more calories than a normal lunch for me. Still, I am a bit of an addict.

Crank up the cardio work. Get the calorie burner turned up high. Then two things tend to happen - one is that cravings of all kinds are duller because your body grabs the nearest fat when it feels like it. The other is that if you eat the burrito, you have the power to burn it before it burns you.

You understand this). You had a splurge/moment of weakness. It's not lethal to do this once in a while, and in somce cases, it can fire up your thyroid.

You seem to have a real love of mixed nuts. This isn't terrible by any stretch - they might be a little high in cals, but they have lots of good attributes too: protein, good fats and fiber all leap to mind. My point isn't that you should go out and eat 2 pounds of them per day, but at least understand that they aren't bad for you, they are just higher in calories than some other foods. Don't feel guilty about eating something that is actually good for you. Your cravings may just be telling you that it needs the nutrients in nuts.

FWIW, I'm the same way about burritos.
BigDog,

You're SO right. I know a splurge here and there is alright but I don't want to get into the habit of saying that one time is okay because then the one time will turn into two and then three. I always criticize myself for splurging/binging like that and like I said before, I don't stop myself from doing it because I want to get it out of my system so that I can start fresh the next day.

Yep, I do love mixed nuts -- like I said before, it's one of my biggest weakness. I'll literally go to a grocery store's bulk section just for nuts and then leave without having bought anything else. I know they're good for me relative to other "bad" foods, like chips and other junk, but at the same time, they are very calorie dense, not nearly satisfying enough, and high in fat/calories. I like Guava's idea about sprinkling the nuts on salads, making mixes out of them, etc. but the thing is when I buy nuts (i.e. when they're in my hands), they want to be eaten ASAP -- no self-control there!!! So it's either I completely ban them from my diet or I just have them like I do once in a while (i.e. once a week or so).

Now, in terms of burritos...hmmm...can't say I know what to do with those. I like Bluestreak's idea about cutting them in half though!!

Moderation is the key. The funny thing is that I don't look at the burrito as being bad, it's just higher in calories than most of my lunches. But it's filling, has good veggies, good protein. . . and it's f'ing delicious.

I think it may simply be a difference in how we view calories (which may or may not be gender based and related to the thinness expectations that are put on women) - it seems like you lay a little more importance on them than I do. I consider them ** but tend to look at a nutrition density (ND= Nutrients/Calories. It's very qualitative, since I can't quantitize nutrients yet.

Obviously some of this depends on your goals and where you are at, but you are already in good to exceptional shape from what your journal has said. So it depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Hang in there. This type of thing can drive you nuts.

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

** I resisted counting them for a long time but you and Doordude convinced me that I should at least know my basic intake in a previous thread, so I started that about 14 days ago. Interesting so far.

Biceps and back were in the plan of attack today at the gym. I love working biceps because I love the way my arms look at the point where I'm flexing them. Doesn't everyone? I once told a trainer that I want to look toned like the way I do when I'm flexing. He replied, "doesn't everyone?" I guess he's righ!

Meals for today:

Meal 1: oats + banana + egg white
WORKOUT (weights + abs + cardio)
Meal 2: protein shake
Meal 3: 2 slices rye bread + sugar-free jam + 2 handfuls Vector cereal
Meal 4: chicken breast + 1 cup brown rice + veggies (broccoli, mushrooms, green peppers) + 2 tbsp salsa + handful carrots
Meal 5: 1 apple + 1 tbsp organic peanut butter
Meal 6: 1 can tuna + salad (lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, green peppers, mushrooms + 1 tbsp low fat mayo)

There's this lady who frequents the gym every morning at the same time that I go and she's the epitome of skinny fat. I'd say she's in her early 30s...can't really tell. She literally runs EVERYDAY and her arms are like toothpicks. I assumed that someone like her must have abs due to a low body fat but then I saw her doing pull-ups and her stomach was showing from under her shirt and I saw that it was actually kind of flabby! Well that just shocked me because I had a whole other perception! She tries to do weight training but I think all her cardio is just bringing her back to square one in terms of muscle-building. People are so clueless sometimes...you have wonder....

EDIT: So far meals on track, except for the addition of 1 extra slice of rye bread (too good to be true). Now on to my chicken + brown rice + broccoli lunch!

There's a BOWL full of mini Kitkats and Coffee Crisp CHOCOLATE bars left-over from Halloween and I don't know how to resist tempation. Everytime I go into the kitchen it's sitting right there BEGGING me to pick a few up and stuff them in my mouth. I don't have the option of chucking them out because they're not mine (I live with a few other people). This totally sucks!!! Any ideas???

Today was legs and boy did I not feel up to it. Not only was I feeling faint and on the verge of having a protein spill but I could barely complete my workout the way I usually do (hardcore). Maybe it had something to do with the time of the month, who knows. I was able to do my cardio though and it was funny because instead of my usual 30min, I did 40min because I was watching "Style by Jury" (anyone seen this?) on the tv that's attached to my elliptical. I guess having tvs on machines is a definite motivating factor!

So I finally figured out how to get rid of the chocolate that was left over from Halloween. I took a whole bunch of them to my friend's house last night and gave them away to 5 different people. I didn't think they'd all gobble it up like they did...but I guess chocolate is something everyone craves no matter what. As long as it's in their stomach and not in mine, I'm happy!

Today's meals:

Meal 1: oats + banana + egg white
WORKOUT (legs + 40min cardio)
Meal 2: protein shake + handful vector cereal + source yogurt
Meal 3: coffee + 1 slice rye bread + 1 tsp sugar-free jam
Meal 4: 1.5 cups brown rice + 1 egg + 1/4 c egg whites
Meal 5: 1 apple + 1 tbsp organic peanut butter --> see response below
Meal 6: 1 slice of raisin bread + source yogurt
Meal 7: salmon + salad -- lettuce, tomato, mushroom, green pepper, onion, cucumber, low fat Italian dressing

Are you seeing too many carbs in here, or is it just my imagination?

Getting creative with food means eating one thing, but thinking of another:

Actually, I prefer the first picture myself, sans the honey (an insulin spike waiting to happen!). Your journal always makes me hungry with the damn pics you put in here!

SHOULDERS! That's what I worked on today - one of my fave body parts to workout. I followed that up with 15min of ab work and then 30min on the treadmill doing a nice, leisurely 5.2mph. I'm beginning to really enjoy running. Sometimes my left knee begins to hurt a little but other than that, I really feel as if I'm in my own world, at peace, and just thinking about whatever's on my mind. Anyone else love running this much?

Going grocery shopping today! Yay! Need to restock on my meat items (chicken & pork) and also fish items (salmon chunks). I'm also going to buy some nuts, but VERY little of it this time around -- I promise!

Looking forward to the weekend!!!!!!!

Forgot to post meals for today:

Meal 1: oats + banana + egg white
WORKOUT (45 min shoulders + 15 min abs + 30 min treadmill @ 5.2mph)
Meal 2: protein shake + yogurt + 1 slice rye bread + 1 tsp sugar-free jam
Meal 3: 2 handfuls of mixed nuts (cashews, almonds, brazilian nuts, etc.) + handful of carrots
Meal 4: smoked white fish chunk (pic below) + 1 slice rye bread + 2 tsp Barb and Wendy's Skinny Dip Baba Ganoosh + veggies (carrots + cucumber) with low fat cucumber dressing + 6 strawberries
Meal 5: coffee + 2 slices raisin bread <-- damn 3 o'clock munchies
Meal 6: the rest of the smoked white fish chunk + veggies (corn, green peas, carrots, onions, etc.) + salad (onions + cucumber + tomato + 1/4 tsp olive oil) + 7 cal light jello
Meal 7: 1 "Low Carb" protein bar <-- it not only satisfied my craving for something sweet, but also my hunger; don't know why I was hungry so late at night

Today was my cardio day. I did 30 min on the stairmaster (level 8) while watching the Surreal Gourmet on tv (love that show!) and then I followed that up with 20 min on the treadmill (running at 5.2 mph). Felt AMAZING afterwards. I've taken some pics today that I'm going to post.

Meals for today:

WORKOUT (50 min cardio fasted)
Meal 1: protein shake + omlette (1 egg + 1/2 c egg whites + tomato, onion, mushroom, pepper, 2 tsp salsa)
Meal 2: 2 slices rye bread + 2 tsp Barb & Wendy's Skinny Dips Baba Ganoosh
Meal 3: oven-baked sweet potato fries (=1/2 sweet potato) + 1 chicken breast + 1 tsp salsa + handful carrots
Meal 4: apple + 1 tsp organic peanut butter
Meal 5: 1 can of tuna + salad (lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, mushroom, low fat mayo) <-- one more food pic for ya!

Guava! Here's a pic of me! There's a considerable improvement of upper body muscle. Still working on the abs though...need to get that damn body fat down a few more % then I'll see my abs pop out!

Today was my 2nd cardio day, seeing as though it's Sunday. I started off with 30 min on the elliptical (level 8) and the followed that with 20 min on the sitting bike (is that what it's called?!) on level 8.

I'm going out for a sushi lunch today, which isn't too bad, considering it's just fish with rice and vegetables, until you eat the Dynamite rolls!!! Anyone have those? They're AMAZING but filled to the rim with Japanese full-fat mayo! I'm staying away from those today. I think I'll stick to just regular sushi, maki, and maybe sashimi. On the other hand, I've been craving a bento box (see pic below) for the longest time so maybe I'll get one of those sans the tempura (deep fried). Can't wait!!

Meals for today:

WORKOUT (50 min cardio, fasted-stated)
Meal 1: protein shake + omlette (1 egg + 1/2 c egg whites + tomato, onion, mushroom, pepper, 2 tsp salsa)
Meal 2: 1 slice rye bread + 1 tsp Barb & Wendy's Skinny Dips Baba Ganoosh
Meal 3: Quick snack before my sushi lunch: 10 baked sweet potato fries
Meal 4: Went to Thai instead of sushi. My friend and I shared some fresh (not fried) spring rolls (2 to be exact), then I ordered hot & sour soup and seafood salad -- not bad choices considering some of the other things on the menu
Meal 5: Still hungry after the restaurant: had 1 ww pita bread+ 1 tsp organic peanut butter + 1 banana
Meal 6: handful of carrots + 2 tsp Baba Gannoosh + 4 strawberries + 1 slice raisin bread + 1 chicken breast + 1 cup veggies
Meal 7: 1 ww pita bread + 2 tsp jam --> what's wrong with me? I feel as though when I go out to eat I tell myself that I've "ruined" my day, so I continue to do so. So lame.

I think I'm done for that day. I have a feeling I went over my calorie limit, but let's consider today a "high calorie" day. Hopefully it'll shock up my body a bit, which is what I need.
