Default Adventure Race Training?

Hi all,

I've made it a goal to compete in at least 4 adventure races this summer. As I am new to the sport I'm not sure how I should be training for these events besides what I am currently doing, i.e. cardio 3 days a week and weights 3 days a week.

If anyone has tried adventure racing before or anything remotely similiar, I would be very interested in what kind of training you would recommend.

I appreciate any advice you all can give.

Thanks

Dave

Hey Dave, what is Adventure Racing?

I nearly competed in an Ecochallenge but we came to our senses and pulled out.

Marcus,

It's the same thing, but the ones I'm planning on doing are much shorter, 4 to 6 hours as opposed to 24 or more hours.

Default Basic Training Advice

If your goal is to compete in adventure racing, then your workout schedule will be pretty different than most people in the fat loss/weigh lifting forums.
For starters during the season (we'll just call that summer) you really don't need to do any weights. The demands of adventure racing are generally not compatible with increased bulk. In short, its all about power-to-weight ratio and slow twitch muscle fiber development. The weight training you have done over the winter should serve as a sufficient base to carry you through summer.
Up your cardio workouts, and begin to start doing some sport specific training - i.e. run, bike, etc. You have to practice how you are going to compete.
Hope that gets you a starting point
