The "we WILL find Egg beaters in the UK" Thread!
We UKish types have a problem
no egg beaters!
day in day out you americans tell us how good they are and tease us with your egg beater eating and we sit here all and and even
So this is the official (cos Jingo says so) thread for egg beater info in the UK (i guess our european friends can join in too )
I've done all the local supermarkets and health shops with no success, i'm going to start hitting some websites soon and see if i can get hold of any there.
We shall find our egg beaters!
Lazy brits unite!

I posted about this a while ago and I still cant find anything. I've asked at TESCO's, Sainsburys, ASDA, Waitrose and I've looked online. If you find anything in UK, please let me know!!!! I'll keep searching.

How 'bout this place?
http://www.eggwhitesint.com/index.shtml
They're called Egg Whites International, so might be worth someone contacting them and asking if they ship to EU.

Hmmm...I smell a business opportunity. What if I bought egg beaters in bulk, and shipped them to you?
I'm also going to Sweden at the end of March, Stockholm and Falun in particular. Maybe something could be arranged. Egg beaters for gravad lax eller senap?

- currently bulking!
|
The problem with shipping them is that the need to stay refrigerated...
we have a product in Canada called "break free" - same thing as "egg beaters".
- don't get fixated looking for the particular "brand".
just see if you can find the similar type of product.

I was just adding this to another thread, but in our local stores, you can buy egg whites packaged just like egg beaters.. like a milk carton in pint or quart size. That is pretty much what egg beaters are anyway, so those in UK and Europe might try looking in that direction..

it's pretty much the same thing ya, but for those of us wanting maybe 5-10 egg whites per serving, seperating them yourself gets super tedious and super expensive, to the extent that i just don't eat eggs now.

They add some stuff:
A little natural coloring so they are yellow some vitamins and stuff. They are also pasteurized. Check the eggbeaters web site for specifics. There are also flavors.

I've bought Egg-Beaters, and all of the other competitor products including some much more expensive organic products that are available here.
Personally, I plan on never buying them ever again, they don't cook quite the same, they don't taste quite the same, they don't look quite the same. It's required by law in the USA to pasteurize egg beaters, and I think that pasteurization process messes the product up.
Guaranteed, you're going to get a better end result if you just separate the egg yourself and throw out the yolks. Believe it or not, it's cheaper to use real eggs too.

I've found that it can be quite a bit cheaper to get powdered egg whites and reconstitute. (If I'm frying them, I mix in one whole egg to every so much egg white.) But... it can be a pain to reconstitute, so I'm still weighing options.
If you're throwing away yolks, though, keep in mind that many furry friends love yolks, raw or not. It's great for their fur, as well. I feel slightlly bad for our dog right now as she doesn't get any yolks while I'm using dried whites. Poor, deprived creature.

I give my dog 1 raw yolk per day. I'm not exactly sure how much would be ideal, but I don't think it would be a good idea to give her all four, for a 45 lb dog

Why not give my dog more than 1 yolk per day?
As it is, she has maybe 1.5 cups of dog kibble per day + 1 egg yolk. If I don't give her the egg yolk, she still eats 1.5 cups of dog kibble per day. I'm pretty sure the amount of calories in 4 egg yolks would be more than her kibble, and certainly not balanced -- no fiber at all, for example.
Perhaps when I start going for long runs/bike rides again, I'll give the dog some more around the exercise time, but otherwise, I don't need a fat dog any more than I want to be fat myself
