To start it off - I'd say nothing too flashy. Maybe something across the chest, but usually I don't like anything on the back of my t-shirts - but this is just my taste.

I love the idea of the sleeveless shirt - possibly with JohnStoneFitness across the chest. The www.johnstonefitness.com is ok, as long as it's semi-small. (like 8 pt font).

Can't wait!

Gotta have a slogan.

I liked your "EAT. SLEEP. LIFT." type stuff when you were bulking. "EAT CLEAN, LIFT BIG". Stuff like that. Maybe a bit "bodybuilder" for some i guess, but i like it. Maybe "JOHN STONE FITNESS. Tranforming since 2003." Needs something to catch attention.

Maybe have the URL small, but i would like the JOHN STONE FITNESS to be big enough to see without staring, as thats the whole point of having JSF clothes. Otherwise, you may as well have a plain T.

Cant wait.

Personally, I don't enjoy big logos and what not across the front of my shirts. I prefer it in the back. One of the reasons is because I will wear it to the gym and when I'm lifting inthe mirror I like to see the front of my torso with as little interference as possible. Does that make sense? Thats why I prefer logos and that stuff on the back. I wouldn't mind a logo or URL over the left pec area. Ultimately it's your decision but thats my opinion.

As far as a slogan goes, I think my favorite would be something like:
Leaner, Meaner, Smarter
or
Leaner, Better, Faster...
To be honest, I stole that from Deustche, Inc. The marketing company owned by Donny Deustche. It's not really their slogan, but it's their corporate philosophy. To be specific, it's leaner, meaner, smarter. It is a great philosophy and I have it pasted through out my room as motivation. I think that would be an awesome slogan for you John! Since it is only a philosphy and not a slogan, there are no copyright violations etc.

Anyhow, have you comprised a pricing list of these items. I definitely want a shirt.

Thumbs up

I vote for something like "EAT CLEAN, LIFT BIG".

If you're gonna do a tiny logo shirt - let's also have a BIG in your face logo T-shirt too. I want something where every person I come across is wanting to ask me "What is this JohnstoneFitness.com?"

It's what Van Diesel would want too . . .

I've probably mentioned my thoughts in the other thread, but I'll re-iterate them, who knows, maybe they've changed, I'll look back later.

Anyway, as for the shirts (t-shirts, tank tops, long sleeve, sweatshirts, etc), you gotta keep it simple IMO. A few thoughts of mine, not sure if it's common consensus or not:

1) JSF/URL - It is definitely fine to have John Stone Fitness and/or the URL somewhere, as long as it's not in HUGE GIANT LETTERS! We all want to proudly represent this place without looking like a tacky billboard. I'd say either a small logo on one side of the chest or within a picture on the back.

2) Slogan - This one's tough. I wouldn't not buy something because it had a cheesy slogan on it, but keep in mind, almost any slogan will be cheesy. Therefore, you want to try and keep it simple and again, not plastered on the front of the shirt in big letters. As for specific slogans, I don't have any offhand. I haven't loved any I've seen, haven't hated any either and I don't think I will hate or love any that are suggested.

3) Picture/Logo - If it's of any significant size, definitely put it on the back. I think designs on the back can look real good if done right.

4) Options - Not sure the possibility of this, but perhaps offer the "Simple Line" of shirts that just have a little something on the front on the side of the chest and then have the "Design Line" that has you know, all the logos, slogan's, ect. Not sure how cost-effective it will be, but I think it would definitely bring in more sales.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck and you can count on me purchasing a few things.

I appreciate the suggestions so far keep 'em coming.

I'd rather not take some other company's slogan/philosophy/ideas mainly because I don't want to create any confusion. I'm open to original ideas, though! Maybe we could have a slogan contest? Throw your best 2 or 3 original ideas here, and we can have a vote? Winner gets a shirt or something.

I'm also not big on huge logos on the front. I like a very small logo over the left breast with www.johnstonefitness.com in small letters just under it. Maybe something bigger w/ slogan on the back.

Again, this is just the initial design. I will add a lot more as we move forward.

As for pricing, full disclosure: I took the base prices and marked everything up 50% across the board. So, if something costs me $10, I'm charging $15. Those of you who are looking for bargains may not be too happy with the prices. It's expensive to print one-offs, so the base prices are somewhat high to begin with. The 50% markup goes directly to supporting JSF.

For example, T-Shirts are going to start at $14.00 (for the "Value" shirt.) Higher quality fitted T-shirts will cost $24.00. There will be other options as well.

What, corporate responsibility, and from a newb! Next you'll be telling us that it take MORE than 5 minutes per day for 'great abs'.

I'm a fan of understated (except for the occasional totally over-blown overstatement), so would favour something subtle. The abstract shape Duckfan did for the banner (above) along with a small "JSF" or "John Stone Fitness" or "URL" would suit me well.

Andrew.

What design are you considering for the Golf/Polo Shirts? I would certainly buy 1 or 2 of those as long as they were without any type of slogan or massive logo. A good polo shirt would perhaps have a small logo and website address printed on the breast.

For a workout shirt though, like a tank top or t-shirt, I dont think it really matters if it has a massive logo and some cheesy slogan. As for the slogan, I'd rather not have it specific to weight lifting because this is more of a general fitness site. Perhaps something like "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind". The competition is a good idea.

I'm a big fan of hoodies, and I think what would be pretty cool is to have a grey hoodie with the abstract logo from the top banner of the webpage... have that logo centered on the chest in embroidery or whatever, fairly large sized (4"x4"?), and then have John Stone Fitness underneath.

I've seen this done before: On the short sleeved tee shirts and golf shirts, the web address could go on both sleeves, parallel to the seam.
Could make a great statement when people ask you to flex your bicep, and there pops up www.johnstonefitness.com!

Oooh ooh something else

Don't know if this is possible (or you might already be doing it, I'm too lazy to scroll that far), but it'd be cool also if you could get some kind of wicking shirts (kinda like spandex). Wal-mart carries them in their own generic brand as well as Starter brand. I wear them snowboarding and also on the elliptical.

Hmm . . . slogans . . . I'll try a few meta-ones, first and brainstorm from there

"I went to Johnstonefitness.com and all I got was what's under this lousy t-shirt"

TAKE OFF YOUR SHIRT
(John Stone Fitness)

"Real Men Eat Clean"

"Real Women Eat Clean"

You could do it self-aggrandizing, Spartacus Style-

"I'm John Stone"
John Stone Fitness

"A Year From Now, This Shirt Will Be Too Big"
or
"A Year Fom Now, This Shirt Will Be Too Small"

"Man At Work"
or
"Woman At Work"

more to come . . .

"The Gut Stops Here"

"Knowledge Is Strength"

"Could You At Least Have the Common Courtesy not to Stand Directly Behind Me While I'm Doing Squats? Thanks."

Second the wicking shirt and slogan contest ideas. King Jingo can't think of anything at the moment...

At this time I am most interested in the sleeveless tees or tank tops, and the golf/polo shirts. I am weird about logos. I am very territorial about being anyone else's billboard - but more open to being so in this case. My preferred location for a logo is on the side, at the top of the sleeve - a shoulder patch. (Military influence probably showing there.) Left breast logos, I just think of as ordinary, visual spam.

Exlibris' idea is intriguing...tight as I am with $$, this is one venture I feel very ready to invest in generously.

I can't do much about the product line, as I'm limited to what's offered by the vendor. Depending on the popularity, I may strike out on my own and have a stock of shirts printed up, which would give us more color/style choices. As it stands, here's what the product line will include:

Golf shirts, Jr. spaghetti tanks, thongs (heh), camisoles, T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, sweatshirts, sleeveless T-shirts/tank tops (several styles/quality levels), mouse pads, wall clocks, coffee mugs, baseball caps, bumper stickers, license plate frames, magnets and buttons.

I can't do printing on the sleeves, sorry. Also I can't do embroidery on the hoodies.

Marcus, the golf shirt is designed just as you described it!

Obviously it's going to be impossible to please everyone. Sorry.

Slogan proposal:

"No, I'm not flexing"

Actually, that's a pretty weak slogan for the meaning of this comunity. Just felt like saying it

I think JSF slogan has to be as powerful as the site. And that's way too ambitious for my mind. Looking forward to know the final outcome, though.

PeteBDawg, I actually think you got some great ideas. Keep'em coming...

And I also think "No, I'm not flexing" is quite funny.

I think humerous saying's like that and some that Pete came up with as opposed to an actual serious "slogan" is much better suited for t-shirts.
