Default Eggs...choices, choices

Instead of being overcharged for egg whites, I was planning on buying whole eggs at the store tomorrow and using them to replace my second meal. (kashi go lean)

I imagine I would want to boil them to get "the most out of them"...?

If I don't care about taste, would that be the most effective way to eat them?

I also understand I can buy egg whites in bulk...would it be cheaper to buy egg whites in the long-run than buying whole eggs via Walmart.

Eggs are cheap where I live- I can get them in cartons of 18 for about $1.60-$1.80... cheaper than a carton of eggwhites. I don't mind separating and tossing the yolks.

I just fry them in a teflon skillet with barely a touch of cooking spray.

But sure- you could paoch/boil; just takes much longer.

It costs me around $4 at walmart. 15 servings (1/2 cup of egg white)

Unless I were to buy them in bulk, I don't see any purpose. Why not use the whole egg anyway...my cholestrol is currently 137.

Because two eggwhites is about the same protein (a little more, actually) as one whole egg with zero fat compared to 5.3g per whole egg and about 34 calories versus 78 per whole egg.

So five eggwhites is near the same calories as 1 whole egg, almost 3 times the protein and no fat.

I follow the logic that I need to get about 25-30% of my calories from fat, so it's just less peanut butter or olive oil I need to eat later.

Now, if I was trying to avoid fat...yes I would go with the egg whites.

Cartons are definately cheaper than egg whites. When you buy a carton, you're paying not only for the egg whites, but for the convenience of them.

Wow, eggs are expensive where you guys live. Here a dozen eggs is about .65 at the grocery store. I pay 1.75 for the cage free, let-the-poor-birds-run-around-a-bit kind.

I ended up buying three dozen large grade A eggs at Target. They cost $0.89 plus tax per dozen.

I can get 24 for £2.50 or so. Dead cheap.

Anyway, Every morning I have 2 full eggs and 3 egg whites, I just scramble them. I doubt there is a best way to eat them, apart from eating them raw, which has other dangers.

Eggs should be listed ad as 'good' source of fat IMO, even though I personally rarely eat the yolk. If it fits into your marcos, eat the whole egg.

Also I found the cartons of egg white don't cook quite the same as eggs. I have started adding 1-2 whites along with the cartoned white (I pay for the convenience).
