Questions
After about a month long off my diet and workout I have been really wanting to hit it hard again. I really pushed counted calories watched what I ate and manged to knock off 30 lbs in one month. That puts me down to 242 I have been maintaining that for the past month but have been eating crap food. My question is though is there a difference if you drink your protein intake or eat your protein intake? I am going to be doing a couple of shakes a day which seem to fill me up with water. I also have my bike out of a overdue tuneup and have been riding 7+ miles a day.
Thanks.

Drinks don't tend to have everything you need. Think of filtered fruit juice instead of eating fruit. The fruit will have many other things then just the juice would.

I've found that protein drinks just don't leave me satiated long term. I end up consuming more food than I would if I got my protein from meats and other solid sources. I'm pretty sure that the thermogenic cost of solids if higher than for liquids with the same macro distribution(i.e. you expend more energy digesting solid food)... not a major detail, but I believe that every little detail is important in a fat loss adventure.

The main difference is as mentioned above to do with whole food sources being more filling. Ideally you should be consuming real food but if you find it time consuming/inconvient then you can supplement with protein shakes .
You also need to look at your overall diet approach, you will need a good balance of carbs and fats for best results and the most important factor is going to be consuming less calories than you expend.

There is no negligible difference. Protein shakes are simply a convenient way to get in your protein macro's. For example, if you need 225 grams of protein per day, it's going to be very difficult to get it all from lean meats, eggs, etc. Let's say you want to get in all your 225 grams from chicken breast and fish. You are then going to consume approximately 2 1/2 pounds of meat. This is in addition to your other foods, like veggies, potatoes, oatmeal, fruits, etc. Some people can do this. Most cannot. If you can get in all your protein from whole foods, then it's perfectly fine. If you need to supplement with protein powders for couple of shakes a day (which I consider a food source) it's also perfectly fine.
