It's an addiction once you catch the bug. I was like you years ago wanting the best of both worlds, now I run 6-7x a week, and lift 2-3 for 45mins or so, basically for injury prevention.
If you find you really enjoy running, go balls out with it. SOunds like you have seen some success in times, pace, distance, etc. Success is a great motivator to push yourself even harder. If you stick with running you're endurance will skyrocket fairly fast in the beginning, speed is the harder of the two to develop, which takes years or base building and speedwork. Sign up for a goal race a couple months out, and train for it. It will be very rewarding if you stick it out til the end.
DOn't forget too, running is training the most important part of your body, way more than lifting could ever do, your heart. You got the bug, not many people like the bug, but those who do never want the bug to leave. You might be one of those select few. Get out there n lace em up!
